Fewer, actually. For the record, the ISB lists an SSD as having:Ghost Rider wrote:I believe WEg rated it around only 500 TLs and 500 IonsSlartibartfast wrote:How many guns did WEG the ship had? A few hundred?
Almost 12 times... 11 times and a bit, like we've said all along.
at 5000...it's better.
250 TLs
250 HTLs
250 concussion missile tubes

I must say however I personally disagree with the assertion by Dr. Saxton that the Executor is a Star Dreadnought; it is far more dedicating of its mass and volume to carrier and command operations than to outright ship-to-ship fighting.
I would refer to Giel's flagship as an example of an Imperial Star Battleship, and perhaps the Soveriegn and Eclipse as proper Star Dreadnoughts.
Also, the classification of the Executor as a Star Supercarrier or Star Commandship made it much easier to justify some of the incidents it got spanked in the EU with wimpy force.

Ok some more goodies:
- The Great Temple on Yavin has a power generating station located 2km away from it consisting of turbines and a main reactor stolen from a Star Destroyer giving it the ability to hold off an attack "from a single large battleship"
- In the main interior cuttaway of the temple the Rebels have an R-22 Spearhead which is the "experimental predecessor of the A-Wing" (To me this is new info, not sure if its been released anywhere before though) It looks exactly like the A-Wing.
- They also have a few "H-60 Tempest Bombers" parked around which look like short stubby B-Wings but without folding wings and a different main engine design. The cockpit modual is detachable.
Mos Eisley:
- The imps had the AT-AR, (All Terrain Advance Raider) at Mos Eisley and a few of them shown in the image, but since it is a high up view it is difficult to make out precise details. From what I can see, compared to an AT-ST they have a wider span between the legs and they are attached to the main body as apposed to a separate engine fixture, and have larger main guns. In short, they look like AT-PT's but larger, and with bigger guns
- Mos Eisley has a "Jango Fett Arena". It was named in his honor and is used for all kinds of combat spectacles.
- Their is a "Triple hull TIE Lander" which can "deploy a Stormtrooper company"
- Their is an unamed "Imperial armored tank" with a dozer shovel demolishing a private house to make room for an expansion to their garrison base.
"City-Wide Traffic
With no central landing area, the whole of Mos Eisley is cratered with 362 docking bays, many of which are large enough to accomodate space freighters. All the bays are under the ostensible controll of the city prefect and a handfull of overworked customes agents who answer directly to the commander of the city's small garrison of Imperial Stormtroopers."
"One City's Misfortune
Long a haven for spacers, theives, smugglers, and rogues of all species and variety, Mos Eisley prides itself as being a wretched hive of scum and villainy. The spaceport's status swelled when Podracing fell out of favor and criminals like Jabba the Hutt abandoned that sport's epicenter to the north, Mos Espa. Jabba's increased presence attracted the notice of starship design corporations Ubrikkian and Queblux, both of which constructed high-rise buildings in the gentrified heart of the old city."
"Galactic Hotspot
Moisture farmers bring their harvests to Mos Eisley only if markets in the capital of Bestine are overly busy. Notoriously open to bribes, customes officials make little attempt to curtail the smuggling of spice, illegal arms, and other proscribed goods that pass through Tatooine on their way to other worlds. Ben Kenobi makes occasional trips to Mos Eisley to learn the latest news about the Empire and the contemptable activities of his former apprentice, Anakin Skywalker--now Darth Vader."

Sweet. This is likely intended to solve the continuity problem of the A-wing's introduction date. EU says it appeared post-Yavin, but the X-wing and Rebel Assault games show A-wings pre-Yavin.Icehawk wrote:In the main interior cuttaway of the temple the Rebels have an R-22 Spearhead which is the "experimental predecessor of the A-Wing" (To me this is new info, not sure if its been released anywhere before though) It looks exactly like the A-Wing.
Now, those games depict experimental R-22s, with the A-wing officially unveiled post-Yavin.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

The Spearhead has been mentioned before in passing. Star Wars: The New Essential Guide to Characters apparently. But whohoo, finally some details.Icehawk wrote:- In the main interior cuttaway of the temple the Rebels have an R-22 Spearhead which is the "experimental predecessor of the A-Wing" (To me this is new info, not sure if its been released anywhere before though) It looks exactly like the A-Wing.

I'd like to see Pabawan's reaction to this on SW.com. And Dark Moose's.

Hidalgo will probably just ignore it for the most part, and sarcastically degrade it whenever he does happen to mention anything about it or Saxton.

Yes. Every example in the EU and elsewhere where the length of an Executor-class or "Super Star Destroyer" is given as either eight or 12.8 km is overridden by the correct length given here.

It was always overridden, since the films showed a much longer ship. The 17.6 km length is within the range that can be determined from the films, and is accurate.Techno_Union wrote:So does this mean that the 8km figure for the Knight Hammer in Darksaber is overriden with 17.6?

I too have a small request.
In the front of the book (page three, I think), I'm guessing that the three planets featured at the bottom of the page are Yavin, Hoth, and Endor. If so, what are their distances from the centre of the Galaxy?
Additionally, what are their positions on the map above, and are the locations of Bespin, Anoat, etc depicted?

To VT-16:
Sorry, it doesnt mention anything about those, nothing about the space battle at all really except the stuff on the DSII and the Executor.
To Spanky:
Ah yes, the planets, Ive been meaning to get to those. Surprisingly in this book their is no Galactic Map, but it gives stats on the Six main worlds seen in the Classic trillogy.
Planet distances from core:
Tatooine: 43,000 ly
Yavin 4: 40,500 ly
Hoth: 50,250 ly
Dagobah: 50,250 ly
Bespin: 49,100 ly
Endor: 43,300 ly

Hehe, heres an interesting little tidbit I just noticed:
On the pages with the info and cutout of the Emperor's DSII lair, their is a little gold statue in one of the rooms which is listed as a "Gift from longtime ally and follower, Moff Panaka"

Thanks, Icehawk. That should tide me over for now until I think of any other questions, or until I can get my hands on a copy.
Funny how there's no map in this one. Hopefully they'll make up for it by including the skipped OT planets on the map in the RotS ITW...
EDIT: One tiny last one for tonight: Would you mind transcribing the index of the book? I'm curious what's all exactly covered...

I don't have that much of a problem with it, because these are Inside the Worlds books, not the Incredible Cross-Sections. Ships aren't really covered in ITWs except for little blurbs and entries, because that's not the books' points of focus. I'd bet the bulldozing tank was nothing more than a small part of the image with a single sentence pointing to it saying what it was and what it was doing.
Basically, it's nothing to bitch over.
