Hollywood and George W Bush

Post by MrAnderson »

I don't get it. Why does Hollywood and entertainers in general think I should give a flying fuck who they like politically?

Bruce Springsteen
Dixie Chicks
Tom Cruise
Pearl Jam
James Taylor

I do not know about the rest of the people on this forum but I do not live in the same world as the above mentioned people.

I do not own multiple houses, nor multiple cars for all ocassions.

I do not have massive offshore bank accounts where I store millions.

I do not fly to Europe on a whim for vactions with the French elite in Riviera.

I do not have multiple accountants whose only job it is to manage my money.

My life is nothing like any of the celebrites who feel they know who I should or should not vote for this November. In fact my life is about as different from the above mentioned people as possible. What is important to them means little to me and day to day things that matter greatly to me are minor items that do not even make it onto their radar.

Maybe I should look at this from a positive point. If someone whose life is completely opposite mine says I should vote for Kerry then obviously Kerry (mr marry into millions no less) must represent the views and needs of people not at all like me.

It reminds me that people like John Kerry and yes Michael Moore as well may talk about the common man. But their biggest supporters show that they really do not identify with the common man and have not indentified with him in a very long time.
That is the sound of inevitability.

I don't really know. But why'd you start this thread if you don't give a flying fuck?

The Hollywood elite are full of themselves, but that's nothing new. As for their regaling us with their political beliefs, I'd rather they didn't do so at concerts where folks go to be entertained, not preached at.

Wow, a question which has been only brought up about a thousand times before. Short answer: if you were rich and famous, would you carefully conceal your political beliefs? Or would you speak them freely when given the chance?

The hollywood elite has the right to make their opinions heard just as anyone else. Why should they be quiet?
The fact that they have the money to do so on a very broad basis comes in handy here.

Remove the space. Basically a bunch of whiners who hate that there are liberal celebrities who speak their minds, some only when they're asked.

No, a celebrity's opinion is not worth more than anyone elses. But I don't think the other extreme is true- that their opinions are so worthless that they should shut their mouths when asked.

Is it wrong for Howard Stern to speak out against the FCC and Bush? Perhaps other celebrities also feel their civil rights are being eroded and want to exercise their First Amendment rights to express their opinions.

Doesn't freedom suck?

The dipshits who whine about celebs' viewpoints have yet to show how it's being forced on them. Why don't they just admit that they're bitching because they don't like their politics?

He is the last though that should shut up. Unlike the rest he was elected. The people of California decided they wanted to hear his political views and liked what they heard.

I don't mind too much that Hollywood likes to act like experts on everything including politics. I just find it so damn ironic that someone whose life is nothing at all like mine thinks their opinion matters to me.

The Hollywood elite is afraid they are going to have crepes thrown at them in disgust by some French idiot while on vacation because they are American. I am afraid someone is going to throw grenades at my house while I walk out the front door because I am American.

Not exactly two very similar items.

Have no issue with entertainers speaking their minds on political issues, so long as it isn't on the dime of those being entertained (assuming they didn't pay to hear the entertainer talk about his or her political beliefs).

So by that logic, since a lot of people are interested in what celebrities have to say (like it or not, this is obviously true otherwise people wouldn't talk about it), they should be heard.

Schwarzenegger's life is nothing at all like yours either. For that matter, neither is that of any major politician.

If you're seriously afraid of having grenades thrown at you every time you open your front door, you're either in Baghdad right now or you're a paranoid nutcase.

Oh come off it. Most people I meet act like they are experts in politics. Its not like this behavior is endemic only amongst celebrities, they just have cameras in thier faces all the time. And for some strange reason I suspect that you dont get upset when Bruce Willis, Sly Stallone, or practically any other action star speaks out.
Fact of the matter is that we have a truckload of celebrites. Most of them are not saying anything. Im surprised that there aren't more talking about the election.
Wouldn't it be suspicious if no celebrity ever spoke about politics?

Anderson, shut up. Stop forcing your political viewpoints on me.

Seriously, I'll bitch to a bunch of people on the internet about it if you don't stop.

If you seriously thought I was being litteral then obviously Woody from Cheers and you identify closely.

I was explaining a mindset.

The Hollywood elite are afraid they are going to be looked down on and booed at for being American. They would pefer a more UN oriented America that has not offending other nations at the top of its priorities. They talk about how we have abandoned our allies merely because we acted when Germany and France said we shouldnt.

I want to know my family is safe and I want a government that doesnt care of it gets called a bully because it removes people like Saddam Hussein or the Taliban even when countries with vested economic interests like France, Germany, and Russia oppose it.

Actually, I thought you were literal because you had an established track record of being a moron.

And it doesn't even remotely occur to you that they actually have some principles behind what they say, rather than holding every position they do out of fear of being disliked by the French?
I want to know my family is safe and I want a government that doesnt care of it gets called a bully because it removes people like Saddam Hussein or the Taliban even when countries with vested economic interests like France, Germany, and Russia oppose it.
You believe that going to war in Iraq has made your family safe, and you wonder why I thought you might be speaking literally when you worried about grenades being thrown at your house?

Apparently because you're fucking stupid, I'll explain a little known fact:

PEOPLE LIKE TO HAVE THEIR OPINIONS HEARD

Hence, rich and famous people can to tell people what they think BECAUSE THEY'RE RICH AND FAMOUS. Celebrities being afraid of being looked down on by France is some sort of crack inspired fantasy.

Natalie Portman is on The Daily Show right now. Boy is she stupid. She's just a dumb-ass celebrity who knows absolutely nothing about politics. She should stop cramming her views down my throat.

*using mom voice* Just press the mute button. It will make it all better sweetie.

Celebs just like everyone else has a right to express their opinion about the current administration. IMO I don't think it's their actual opinions which peevs people off, it's the fact that their opinions have a certain power over some of the "common" people despite the fact that some of the celebraties have no more political/world knowledge as your or I.
