Since we are well and hijacking my tricks a few but well though out(Besides the Software side I've already mentioned)

My secrutiy system got a little less complex now that I moved but back when I was living in Connectect I had an elegent but pure system

In North Carilona was a Dual Celeron 550 MHTZ Computer with half a gig of ram running Mandrake and set up so that nothing at all could be changed on the computer unless first a 32 Charater Password was provided know only to me, Its job was simple, It acted as "Super Router" pretending to be my home location(As any IP Checks would revile) and my home computer when in acutalitly it was doing nothing more than relaying my wishs from my acutal Home Location in Farmington CT(At the time)

The False Home location would note all virus/trojans, grap the IPs and at the end of the day zip me off a text file of those IPs for later adding to list of permabans to a varity of things(Could be a CS Server could be if for one of the ISPs I had friends in, could be banning from that)

Imensly complex and in the end I decided not worth it even though it let me do things like go on Slashdot forums and claim I was unhackable because the hundreds of Script Kiddes would just jump at chance to prove me wrong, never having any idea of my increably complex and I decided terrible inefficent setup

That and I went three months without a single attempt I decided to can it and gave the computer away

Completely prevent spyware from being installed...
SpywareBlaster has been released.

"SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

How? By setting a "kill bit" for the CLSIDs of spyware ActiveX controls, it prevents the installation of any of them from a webpage. You can run Internet Explorer with Active-X enabled, but you will never even get a "Yes/No" box popped up, asking you to install a spyware Active-X control (Internet Explorer will never download or run it!). All other Active-X controls or plug-ins will work fine.

The SpywareBlaster database contains information on these known spyware Active-X controls. Make sure you run the Check For Updates feature frequently to get the latest database! (And make sure you check the new items to protect your system against them!)

As a side benefit, setting this "kill bit" will also prevent the spyware Active-X from running, in many cases, if it is already installed on your system."

More information, and download, are available here:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareblaster.html

Enjoy!
don't need it, since mozilla doesn't work with ActiveSHit, with it's security problems. Thanks anyways

Mozilla w/ MultiZilla will do the banner ad blocking and HTTP_REFERRER blocking.

Yeah, but it looks and feels like Netscape. Opera just seems more professional. Also, Opera can masquerade as IE or Mozilla.

Attempting to stay on topic I switched over to Opera about a half year ago and I've never looked back. I just love the smoothness of it, the options are all still there, the speed is better, AND I finally got around to completely removing IE from my system (98 lite, good tool). Lots more space and a lot less RAM/CPU usage.

If you really have to then get the IE theme. This doesn't work with the higher versions, but I'm sure the author will update it. Also, Mozilla 1.0 used to have the ability to change the useragent, but for some reason now the option has dissapeared. Can anyone tell me which text file and string to edit? Also I assume you haven't paid for opera. How can you tolerate those banner ads?

oh wait you probalby don't use mozilla anymore. Yeah anyways mozilla is too bloated for my obsolete p120 win95 downstairs. I use k-meleon, a mozilla/gecko based browser on that. Once I finish downloading linux, i'll have to switch to galeon or something

I switch off between Explorer and Netscape...I like Netscape 4.7 personally, but Explorer 5.0 is good, too. I mostly use Explorer, tho. I used to really hate it, until it was forced upon me (damned schools), but now I'm really used to it.

Mostly Opera due to its speed, but as it screws up CSS half the time, I keep a copy of Mozilla available. IE's on my system, but I only use it on diehard "IE only" sites (which are few and far between, but really annoying when they do crop up).

I used to use AoL. But now it's IE just because it's there.

I use Opera almost all the time now. For web browsing as well as my POP client.

I revert to IE when I come across a page that does not work right in Opera.

The banner ad is extremely subdued, it's in the top right corner and takes up about 2% of the screen. I never even notice it.

Yeah, if you're bothered by Opera's single, small banner ad, you've got some problems. It's not a problem, seriously. And if it were (which it's not), just turn up your resolution.
Opera's my favorite; it's simple, fast, and solid.

I used to use Netscape exclusively, but I got fed up with it. It's a crap browser that failed to keep up with Internet standards, has a constant and unpatched memory leak problem, can't handle CSS properly, can't load half the pages on the web (partly Microsoft's fault for IE-only code) and generally crashes constantly. I still use it, but only the Messenger component (which I'm quite satisfied with - I don't need X-News or FreeAgent and the interface is clean and easy).

I absolutely refuse to use Internet Explorer if I have a choice. It is a bug-ridden piece of crap full of security holes and useless bells and whistles, and using it only furthers Microsoft's monopolizing of the Internet.

I've tried Opera. Too much at once going on for me.

Mozilla I find is perfect. Looks like Netscape 7, functions almost as well, has built-in popup blockers, can view damn near any page, and almost never crashes. I dislike it's Messenger component, however.

While Mozilla shares portions of Nutscrape's apperance it unfortunately also shares NS' memory leaks. Mozilla will quite consistantly swell up to a >60MB memory footprint if I leave it running for more than a few days.

There's also the small undocumented matter that automatic email checking doesn't work unless you leave the messenger component open. How the Mozilla team let 1.0 and 1.1 out the door with this bug still in place is beyond me...
