Why vote for Kerry?

Post by Chardok »

This video alone is why we should ALL vote for Kerry/Edwards I know this issue has been brought up before, but this particular video illustrates his idiocy is agonizing simplicity. Bite me, Shrubby. You are not MY president, and you won't be anyone else's come January, either.

People don't seem to get the idea that when the incumbent is unacceptable, "I'm not the fucker you've got now" is a valid campaign strategy for the challenger.

Problems come to the fore when pretty much your entire candidate's
strategery is:

IM NOT BUSHHHHHHHH! VOTE FOR ME! YEAAAAAAAAARGH!"

That it appears to be a pretty effective strategy is more evidence of how bad Bush is.

Because I've had my fill of the Bush administration. Come November 3, I start working on how to get rid of Kerry in '08.

I suspect I'm not the only one thinking like this, and that's not a good sign for the potential Kerry presidency. Oh well.

I'm sad to say that I like that plan.

I just hope the Republicans come up with a decent canidate in 2008. :|

do away with the ammendment about american-born candidates (isn't it the 28th?) and nominate schwarzenegger/mccain in 2008. :teeth:

Actually, American-born is in the constitution. You'd need an amendment to get Schwarzenegger in.

The natural born citizen clause is in the original Constitution. The 28th Amendment would be the one that allowed Ah-nuld to run, assuming another one didn't get passed between now and then.

I love how my rationalization of support for Bush in the other thread was immediately jumped on as a rendition of, "He's not Kerry," but every answer in this thread is a rendition of, "He's not Bush." Lovely hypocrisy in action.

Because we really don't need another constitutional amendment thats just going to be done away with a few years down the line. Traditional marriage my ass. Just ask many Muslims, some Mormons, and I'm sure many other cultures what they think marriage is and you'll get an answer that has little to do with the puritan ideal many people seem to hold in this nation. And anyway, at this point marriage is really nothing more than a specific legal status, or at least should be from a government standpoint.

And for an answer that isn't simply a Bush is teh stupid variation, here goes. Kerry seems to hold views on taxation that roughly parallel mine. Specifically, fuck the wealthy and those corporations who are making paper moves to bermuda and whatnot. Also, I'm relativey confident that Kerry will get the national debt back under some reasonable control and regain some face in the eyes of the world.

Now, its true that last paragragh is still a tacit attack on Bush's policies. But the fact is, those policies have been so misguided that it is imperative we get someone else in the White House. Four more years of Bush would mean another couple trillion in debt and God knows how many more rollbacks of civil liberties and environmental regs. To say nothing of the wars he might well try to launch with an already overextended military.

Dammit! A few days ago there was a really great editorial in the paper on how Kerry's gone back on so many of his previous desicions, then I see this thread and it's already gone! Dammit!

Yes. He's a dumbass though, with no tact. Not his father at all.

Somehow, I don't see Ron Reagan Jr. running for the Republicans. Wasn't he one of the big speakers at the DNC?

He used an interview about his father's last days as an anti-Bush platform. While he is entitled to his views and well withing his rights to express them, he should have found a better time.

If I was there you wouldn't be alone. I'd only vote Kerry because he's the lesser of two evils. I'd rather Edwards was in or anyone else after Kerry leaves.

That video was poorly done. Maybe you are unfamiliar with the Media Correspondants Dinner. That is an event where the president and company get together with the media in charge of covering the white house and they spend a night telling jokes, doing skits, singing karaoke, and the like. That was Bush making light of a serious situation at an event whose entire purpose is to make light of serious situations. Don't attack Bush, attack the institution of the dinner, which is itself a long-standing tradition in Washington.

Don't get me wrong, I dislike Bush and think he's a moron. But I don't go applauding ever crappy home video put out to ridicule him.

Might be valid, but pretty damn weak. The "lesser evil" argument is not the most swelling endorsement for a candidate. "Hey, vote for Beelzebub, he is less evil than Satan" While true, I don't really want to be under either.

Kerry needs to create a case for a positive vote rather than a mere negative.

I'd agree. I think that video reflected more poorly on the people who made it than on the President. The Media Correspondents' Dinner is basically a convention, and at a convention you tell tasteless jokes that are regardless basically hilarious to the people in attendance.
