I saw it Saturday. When Krugman was able to get a word in edgewise, he mopped up the floor with that prick. O'LIEly had to try to shout him down when he knew he was going to be exposed.

I only wish Krugman the economist had asked him about Paris Business Review. Or about his phantom Peabodies.

Wow. I predict it's going to be a long, long time before O'Reilly lets himself be drawn into a debate outside the ineptly named "No Spin Zone."

I'm reading a transcript of the show right now. So far this is my favorite--
Mr. O'REILLY: My opinion is without those tax cuts, we'd be in a deep recession right now.

Prof. KRUGMAN: Yeah, but are those permanent tax cuts, right? Why aren't they temporary tax cuts to fight the recession?

Mr. O'REILLY: Good question.

Got it off of a Krugman fansite but I don't think they falsified it :)

O'Reilly is REALLY shameful. He basically cuts off Krugman (whom I actually WANT to listen to because he actually has a head on his shoulders) at every opportunity.
Prof. KRUGMAN: Yeah, the bait and switch. What we're talking about--what I was talking about was rolling back the high-end tax cuts, and all of a sudden you're talking about those terrible tax burden on middle-class families who can't afford a house. Look, the basic fact is the tax cuts we've had, which is the stuff that I want to roll back--I mean, I don't even want to roll back the middle-class tax cuts, which are small change. But the Bush tax cuts--the total amount of tax cuts for people earning more than a million a year, that's 0.13 percent of the population, are larger than the total tax cut for the bottom 60 percent of families, basically everybody earning less than $50,000 a year. So these people that you're saying are suffering under the burden of taxes got nothing from Bush. And it's people like you or me, if I sell more books than I have so far, who are the prime beneficiaries. So, you know, this is the bait and switch. This is not the real story. And you take a look at anything I've written about economics, and I'm not a socialist. You know, that's a slander.

Mr. O'REILLY: I said quasi.

Prof. KRUGMAN: Well, that's a wonderful--then you're a quasi-murderer. I mean, why--what...

Mr. O'REILLY: I'm a quasi-murderer?

Prof. KRUGMAN: Well, quasi is a pretty open thing.
pwn3d again, O'Lielly.

Jesus, O'Reilly is a fucking prick. He actually has the balls to whine about how Krugman wouldn't let him get a sentence in.

Krugman was being a pussy, quite frankly. He could have easily and quite justifiably have told O'Reilly to shut his fucking mouth, because Krugman sat by and let O'Reilly make every one of his arguments, while Krugman barely got 2 sentences out of his mouth before O'Reilly started pissing and whining about the left-wing hate machine.

I haven't seen the video, but by what I'm reading Krugman did well. Anyway, Krugman is a professor and columnist, he's not the type to shout his opponent down and debate tenaciously on every point.

Mr. O'REILLY: Well, I don't buy that all. And, you know, Mr. Krugman is a smart guy, but Mr. Krugman was absolutely dead 100 percent wrong in his columns two years ago when he predicted the Bush tax cuts would lead to a deeper recession. You can read his book and see how wrong he was.

Prof. KRUGMAN: Actually, you can read it. I never said that.

Mr. O'REILLY: Sure you did...

Prof. KRUGMAN: I said that it would lead to a lousy job creation...

Mr. O'REILLY: ...column after column after column. You made the point, in your book, OK, that these tax cuts were going to be disastrous for the economy.

Prof. KRUGMAN: No.

Mr. O'REILLY: They haven't been.

Prof. KRUGMAN: I'm sorry, that's a lie.

Mr. O'REILLY: It's not a lie.

Prof. KRUGMAN: Let me just say it's a lie. I said they were ineffective at job creation. And if you look at the Bush administration...

Mr. O'REILLY: Hold on, hold on. Hold it. Now 'ineffective at job creation,' what is that? Semantics now?

And right after that exchange, O'Reilly tried to weasel out by saying, "Oh, but the economy depends on job creation!" (And therefore, Krugman must have said that the economy would go to shit, because obviously the economy only depends on job creation.) O'Reilly was a blatant asshole, and he's the last person that should be crying about persecution.

He completely avoided the issue of leaked Fox News memos that prove that that waste of airwaves is a right-wing propaganda machine and said, "Well we have the most liberals on the air of any network." Yeah, too bad they've been carefully selected so that they're all fucking pussies who get shouted down by assholes like O'Reilly. Colmes is a fucking joke who probably has a clause in his contract requiring him to shut his mouth and let Hannity kick him around like an old Coke can.

Krugman's clearly an academic more used to the written word than debate- but even so, for all his understatedness, any reasonable person could tell O'Reilly was floundering like crazy. There were several points I would've pressed, personally (assuming I knew dick about economics).

I got 2/3 of the way through this, but couldn't finish. O'Reilly is such an ass, I wanted to punch my monitor reading that transcript. Fucking self-righeous uninformed.... *grumble grumble*

Krugman was clearly unused to being on television in a debate scenario, after everytime O'Reilly spoke, he sort of sighed and gasped and made a snide comment or two a couple of times when O'Reilly was speaking.

Pablo, what was the context of your quote? I watched it on CNBC about halfway through, and missed it. Is it saying Bill really didn't know that or that he just made a sarcastic rhetorical comment?
