When I first heard the story I was outraged, but upon learning more details, I became even more sickened.

here's my understanding of what happened:

There were 6 young people living in a house, and they all worked at the same Burger King. This house was owned by a granparent of one of the occupants.

The house (next door, or maybe down the street, but close), was also owned by the same grandparent. This second house was vacant. This second house also had a pool that the kids living in the first house would occassionally go over and use.

One time, the kids go over there to swim, and discover several people squatting there. The kids call the police and have the squatters removed. One of the squatters was in jail while this occurred. One of the kids removed all of the crap the jailed squatter had left in the house, including the Xbox. She boxed all this crap up and was going to hand it over to the cops.

The guy gets out of jail, and him and his cronies go over and murder the sleeping kids because they "stole" his stuff.

I hope these animals get executed.

With the exception of the distances between the houses, according to CNN they were miles apart, that's more or less accurate. Though it's worth noting that the police are looking into other possible ties between the victim and the perps.

I don't disagree that the whole thing sounds like Springer-esque farce as it stands. But the assume that this was a white trash brawl was more than a bit premature. Not everyone in the South is trailer trash rednecks.

Just wanted to update everyone: this story is STILL tops in the news, with several smaller spawn stories (the probation officers getting fired for one) that are keeping it tops in the headlines. Like Mike said, I'm not sure why this is still in the news, but I assume it has something to do with the smalltown nature (read: lots of white people).

Nobody commits a crime like this out of the blue. I'm sure that every one of these perps had a rapsheet as long as all of your arms and legs added up. You have to wonder if he was out on the street because of lenient sentencing for prior crimes.

3 parole officers have been fired as a result of this crime. So I would guess yes.

The ringleader Troy Victorino is black at any rate and given the size of the town, I would be very shocked in the victims were not white.

Actually, only the ringleader had a record. As usual it was a pretty long one with him actually being wanted for a probation/parole violation at the time. It sounds like he committed the crime mostly because of a fued with the people he killed.

2 blackmen
1 hispanic
1 white

They haven't said with the victims but the name sounds vaguely hispanic.


Anyway, I think the whole thing has gotten so much attention simply because it's so damn springer-esque. It's getting attention mostly because it's so damn brutal (they quite literally beat these people to a pulp) and so senseless.
