NJO, Dark Journey

Post by Knife »

Was the longest, pointless book I have read in quite a while. Pretty much all that happened was really a subplot that could have been handled in a book with an actual, interesting plot.

Bleh.

I now return you to your regular programing...........already in progress.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Think you missed the boat on being pissed off by Dark Journey; that all was sorted out about a year ago. :)

He's an old man. How he ever made it to SDNet is beyond me. At any rate, you have to give him some allowances here. :P

Agreed the only good part of the book was the change in Durron. I tried to re-read it recenlty and just gave up half-way through. Although the fatc I'd just got the first New Frontier book might have something to do with it...

Even Kyp's epiphany is fleeting. I'll have to see how it plays out in the next couple sets. But DJ, I though they streched Star by Star out too long. DJ is about six pages worth of story streched into 200. Usually, 200 or so pages is a day or two of reading, that turd took me almost a week.

It barely advanced the plot, and I didn't really see the point of regurgitating (sp?) the Hapan characters and reverting them to their 20 year old selves. I mean really, Isolder is still tempted by Leia? Might be tempted by Jainia? WTF.

Dude, everyone who read that book said the same thing months ago. It's a ridiculous waste of paper, particularly since any and all character development that occured is forgotten by the next book.

Just skip over to the Enemy Lines duology; both books contain an excellent mix of action, humor, character development, and interesting plotlines.

Meh, I've just about finished 'Rebel Dream' by Allston, and though it is head and shoulders above DJ, it still suffers from draging on too much. I love the cover art though.

And then of course, finish off the NJO's third year with the kick-ass, mind-f***, Traitor.

Exactly. It's 'the Courtship of Princess Leia' part deux. And it sucks even more.

The saving grace of DJ was, even though it sucked so bad, the two books right after it (Rebel Dream, Rebel Stand) and the book before it (star by star) were all awesome.
