Photo Radar may return to Ontario's highways

Post by Ma Deuce »

CBC

Just when I thought McGuinty couldn't possibly get any worse, he is now considering restoring Bob Rae's unpopular Photo Radar system (which would be yet another broken campaign promise, assuming he does carry it out) to help relieve Ontario's deficit...

McGuinty is looking more and more like Bob Rae everyday, and when he leaves (almost certainly at the next provincial election), the province will be just as fucked as it was when Rae left it.

Whilst I disagree with speeding fines being used as a form of revenue raising (our government does it hear too, and it really annoys me, a it makes the government depenent on crime for income). I don't see the problem with more methods being put in place for catching speeders, they should have tougher penalties though, so people don't see it as a sort of tax lottery as they do here.

If they really want a revenue stream, all the Provincial government has to do is send all the corporations that haven't filed a tax return in a few years nice fines.

At 200,000 or so businesses like that, with a 1,000 fine, that's oh, $200,000,000

(And actually, I think the number is closer to 300,000)
I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.

It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

You had faith in McGuinty? This guy's the biggest assclown I can remember, not only is he a Bob Rae follower he's also a crackhead. You have to remember, this is the idiot who thinks it's possible to cut our electricity consumption in half and convert everything over to renewable energy sources. He's the dumbass who wants to shut down all our coal-fired plants in 3 years which'll leave us with a 8-10GW shortfall, we can't import another 8-10GW even if we wanted to, and if he thinks people will stop using power he's a crackhead.

Anyway, this photoradar things is nothing new, people have been speculating it would happen for months now and it'll probably go into effect around the time of the next provincial budget when the multi-billion dollar deficit is revealed. Probably might happen sooner if there's some tragic highway accident or if idiots are caught streetracing again.

Photoradar is just goddamn stupid, it does nothing to prevent accidents and actually causes them as drivers slow down & bunch up to avoid setting it off. It also can't make judgement calls like a police officer, pass a truck in front of photo radar and you get nailed, do it in front of a cop and he'll use his discretion and let you go, photo radar leads to stupidass tickets that do nothing for highway safety.

Our highway speed limit is 100km/h, the unofficial limit is 120km/h, anything up to 120 and to cops don't care unless you're drunk or weaving in & out of traffic (unless they missed their donut break). In more rural areas you can often cruise at 130-140 without worries of being busted.

At the rate he's going there will be no ontario left by the time he's gone.

Nope, I never had any faith in McGuinty (I didn't vote for him), and I was anticipating mediocricy and incompetance the moment I heard he had won the election, although I never thought he was going to be as bad as Rae. I don't generally follow Ontario provincial politics too closely, so I didn't know particularly much about him, but I knew enough to decide that even Ernie Eves' bungling would be preferable to McGuinty...

At least these idiotic administration is practically guaranteed to be kicked out of office by the next provinical election, which probably won't be until 2008 if they pass that moronic set election date bill :(. I eagerly anticipate a new Tory government that will actually attempt to efficiently run the province.

Actually, this is a relatively small transgression compared to his other assclown behaviour. At least I can say I voted for Ernie Eves instead of this idiot.

*hangs head in shame*

I voted for McGuinty. Of course, the Conservative won in my riding anyways, but my vote still went Liberal. Line up the firing squad, I deserve it.

Well, I'm too young to vote, but I am still a member of the Conservative Youth Association, so I did my part to try and stop the establishing of this pitiful excuse for a government.

In my own defence, I was getting really tired of the PCs and their silly accounting, as though selling off assets like the 407 and HydroOne to balance the budget made good financial sense. Capping electricity rates at $0.043/kWh was a bad idea, especially with rebate cheques handed out to even the known deadbeats.

Of course, the Liberals are trying the same thing with the LCBO, according to reports, so it isn't like there's a monopoly on silly accounting practices.
73% of all statistics are made up, including this one.

I'm waiting as fast as I can.
