Some people are very short tempered it seems, but that's not my problem. Look, is this a discussion/debate forum or a "me-too happy forum"?Enough of the useless long-winded back-handed "theorising," you wormy piece of shit. I've become tired of it.
Kurgan, just because you don't know how to look shit up on your own doesn't mean that you both have to make others do it for you and refuse to accept what others say on face value. Does your idiocy make you think everyone is being dishonest?
Jesus Christ...
If it's so emotionally harmful to you, be my guest and leave. Why do you insist on substituting ad hominem attacks for content in a debate? If you're convinced that I'm an idiot who will never listen to anything you say (since you must be right) then why are you even bothering to respond over and over? Do you think I post just because I care what Spanky the Dolphin has to say about it?
>>If you're bored skip to this part:
To address your concerns, why should I accept everything anyone says at face value? Since when is that an admirable quality in debates? After all, some people are misinformed, others deliberately lie or have poor sources. After all there are people on this forum who reject issues with the prequels or the OT DVD's even with mountains of evidence, since there may be reason to question some of that evidence.
Would you criticize me if I said something that sounded outlandish or incorrect to you, without sources, and then demanded you accept it at my word?
Just because I don't have every single Star Wars book, comic, encyclopedia and a Hyperspace account in front of me at all times to look up everything, doesn't mean squat. When I ASK for a source I'm not claiming such a thing doesn't exist or that the person making the claim is a LIAR (far from it), only that I'd like to see it. There's nothing unreasonable about that, since somebody, somewhere has it and with the internet they can post it. And this is a benefit to anyone else reading the thread who also may not have every source in front of them at all times to check every fact and claim made by anyone.
Now, there is the risk that somebody could misquote or take out of context, but then somebody else could check them on it, etc.
Now, I suppose I could get on kazaa and download all the illegal e-book versions of every official star wars source so I can do a text search of them just to prove a point and not ask a question, but why bother? And before you say "Star Wars Databank" that source is under constant revision, and it isn't free from errors, however useful it can otherwise be.
You and I both know that making a claim and then not bothering to back it up with any sources or information looks weak in a debate. So it's perfectly legitimate to ask.
Now if you've calmed down and wish to discuss, that's fine, but if not, fine, we'll just wait and see if the next nine months answer any of these questions.
No offense taken, nor did I intend any flames in my posts either. I'm not obsessed with the point, we're discussing the timeline and that's directly related. Thank you for clarifying the canon quote. So, if the "official" timeline is correct (Episode I: 32 years before ANH; II: 22 or 23 years prior; III: 20 years prior), then Obi-Wan would be 57 or 58 at the time of ANH.Mange the Swede wrote:Posted: Sat Aug 14, 2004 2:27 am Post subject:
Kurgan, why don't you just quit it. This age-thing appears like an obsession to you.
Anyway, here's an excerpt from the TPM screenplay:
Quote:
The droid bows before OBI-WAN KENOBI and QUI- GON JINN. He backs out the door and it closes. The JEDI lower their hoods and look out a large window at the lush green planet of Naboo. QUI-GON sixty years old, has long white hair in a ponytail. He is tall and striking, with blue eyes. OBI-WAN is twenty five, with very short brown hair, pale skin, and blue eyes.
So, the screenplay establishes Obi-Wan's age to 25 years. Are you happy now?
EDIT: Look, Kurgan, no flame was intended in the above post, but nothing more can come out from this discussion.
To us (at least) that certainly seems more reasonable to have a 25 year old Padawan than one in his 30's. Then again, Qui Gon Jinn sure ages well, for a man in his 60's, he looks younger than Obi-Wan himself does (in ANH) when he's only in his late 50's. Perhaps the food & healthcare on Coruscant are just that much better than Tatooine.
