It's good to see USMC CAS kicking ass in the Central American jungle, that's where the modern concept of it was born in the 1920's.

Is I-Go Sakusen in 1943? If so, yeah they get all that, as those stuff
you list would have entered service in mid-late 1942.

Well, I was going to have an absolutely awesom appendix with USN Ratings in 1940 and a discussion of the Two Ocean Navy Act and the creation of the Construction battalions, But I just had the Blue screen of death, wiping 7 pages of Word away.

Maybe later.

You lost seven pages? Sorry to hear it, but then I do save multiple times per page.

Well, it was the first time it had ever happened to me on one of the ship's computers.

Any attempt at recovering it using WORD's temp files?

How does the US get into the Draka war? Is it Pearl Harbored by the snakes,or the Japanese? possibly a mixed command of both?

Shep has the triggered planned out. I'm mostly covering the escalation in the Western Hemisphere that will set the stage for "The straw".

Part Five: Conventions and Conversations

[USS Pensacola, 0230, August 3 1940]

Fox walked out of Radio peeved. Some enterprising watch officer in Havanna had rousted Commander, US Southern Command from his bed as soon as the trawler and sub was reported. And so, Fox had been ordered by the General to go ahead and scuttle the ship once it had been pillaged of evidence. Then he had ordered him to see to it the prisoners were "seasoned" before the Pensacola returned to Galveston (it would make the Crew happy to learn the Pensaolca was going into a Yard period). He stopped, and poked his head back into Radio.

"Chief, call the bridge and tell them I want to see all officers not on watch in the wardroom immediately. Uniform is; come as you are."

"Yes Sir." RMC Austin replied.

As Fox trudged down the p-way to the wardroom, he heard his messaged passed. By the time he entered the wardroom is was crammed to capcity. The Pensacola was considered just small enough to not require a second wardroom. A few were in their skivies and undershirts, looking disgruntled at being rousted. He turned to the young Ensign who had led the boarding party.

"Gillis?"

"Sir?"

"See to it the prisioners are seperated and put into spaces that are...uncomfortable. Engineering voids, unused reefers, places like that. Feel free to talk to them, but don't knock yourself out on information aquisition. I also want those mortars and papers locked up in the armory. Go to it."

"Aye aye Sir." Gillis got up and left.

Fox looked around the wardroom. He wasn't as popular as the previous captain, and a reservist to boot. He certainly hadn't helpped matters by waking everyone up, but he felt it was needed.

"You want the bad news, the worst news, or the good news?"

"Let's start with the bad news, Sir." That was his XO. Fox nodded.

"General Patton tells me the Chileans and Argentinians have begun Naval skirmishes in the Beagle Channel and the Straits of Magellan. Both countries have mobilized their armies, so all the fun that's been happening Over There looks to have expanded to the Western Hemisphere."

There was a murmering in the wardroom. A war between any South American nation would make these banana wars look like a fart in a tornado.

"Gee Sir, what's the worst news?" That wa Cmdr. Peuterschmit again.

"Three more Russian flagged tankers were sunk less than an hour ago. This was less than 5 miles off the coast of Miami, well within the 100 nm exclusion zone. A destroyer on scene confirmed there were at least two unidentified subs nearby, but they lost them."

"Shit." Someone murmered. "We're going to have to start convoys soon." Someone else said.

"And now the Goodnews, we're going to Galveston for a 5 month yard period. We're being taken out of the water and everything. Tell your men to get their leave chits ready. It'll probably be their last oppurtunity before the shit hits the fan. I also want to make sure every crewmember of this ship talks to legal and makes sure their page 2 is up to date. Understood?"

"Yes Sir." Peuterschmit answered for the wardroom, as was tradition.

[Coelocanth, 0945 August 3]

Cohotorach Vandevender sighed and continued to rattle away at his report. He had seen the American Crusier board the ship, and Rodriguez order his men to throw the crates off, but Vandevender didn't think they had gotten rid of them all. And even if they did...

Even if they did, that mongrel might still talk. I hope he remembers what I told him would happen to his family if he did. It's almost the only way to convince animals like him to be quiet. They had no concept of loyalty, so you had to appeal to their base instincts.

Vandevender took another gulp of his Chai, and continued to hammer away at the report. He half expected the supply of arms to stop now that they were caught. Especially as some high mucky-muck at the General Staff had decided to back Argentina in it's latest escapade with Chile. At least, he was reasonably sure the Domination was providing some sort of support. What, he didn't know. Couldn't be too much, not with that clusterfuck going on in the Caucus.

His thoughts were getting muddled again. Argh! Damn working with these mongrels. I need some more Chai.

He stood up and walked over to the kettle, smiling while thinking of that fat kaffir dying. He'd deserved it, and no Columbian had came back and accused him of the act. Heh.

He typed the last two sentences on to the report, removed it from the typewriter, and walked to the small alcove where the radio and encryption devices were.

"Send it." He muttered to the seaman.

6 hours later, High command sent a response. The Coelocanth was to set sail for Rabat immediatly, to supoprt on going operations in the Atlantic.

This is a more realistic movie about the USN.

Quite possibly, although I have yet to meet any females who make the uniform look that good.

Part 6: The Bottom of the World

[War Department, Santiago, 8 August 1940]

Major General Luis O'Brien grimaced at the different colored tacks on the map of Patagonia and Tierra Del Fuego. There was a depressing amount of Red tacks on the Chilean side of the border. Most of the Chilean army remained north, spread out amoungst the passes of the Andes. For once, the Argentinans had done something intelligent, military-wise. No doubt a result of the Snake aid they were receiving.

O'Brien had been in the Army for 30 years, and except for a brief stint during the 1919 border war with Columbia, had remained a General Staff officer throughout his career. He had to stand by and watch the military atrophy during the '30s, while the rest of the world prepared for the inevitable war. Brasil, Gran Columbia, and Argentina had all expanded their militaries in the past five years. Chile, by contrast, had only made one substantial purchase; 3,000 2.5 ton "Alpaca" trucks. Designed and built in Chile, creation of jobs was the reason why the Socialists had approved it, not military necessity.

At least now we can rush our men to the front to die faster than ever now! O'Brien thought derisvely. And dying they were. The only tank in numbers Chile possesed were re-built FT-17s, and of the 400 owned by the army, only 92 were of the 37mm model. They rest had machine guns for their main weapon. And the Argentinian "Gaucho" tanks were ripping through them like so many hot knives through butter. Of course, the Gaucho tanks were just Snake Hond IB's with new paint jobs. No longer of use to the Domination army, but still among the best on the South American Continent.

Damn that Jackass Allende. The young Socialist war minister had killed almost every modernization program that had came to parliament. President Ibáñez had allowed his hands to be tied by the socialists lo these many years. The Army Air Force modernization program had been reduced to the purchase of 150 American Buffalos (from 800) several years before. The attempt to purchase 300 LT-38s (not the best tank in the world, but better than the antiques they had now) from Czechoslovakia had been killed, and the Navy hadn't had anything larger than a Light Crusier built since 1931. All of it was a recipe for disaster, and now the disaster was happening.

Damn him, and all socialists O'Brien thought again. And damn the Argentinians for being halfway smart this time around. Chile had resoundly won every military action it had taken part in since the War of the Pacific in the 1870s. During that War, Cusco had been capture by Chilean forces, knocking the Columbians out of the war early. Bolivia ended up being the punching bag for the Chileans and the Empire of Brasil. Since then, the border for the continent had remained static (up until the ithmus was ripped away from Columbia).

Damnit, why couldn't they have just tried to march over the mountains to Santiago like they did the last two times? He asked the wall.

A youthful Lt. walked in, and replaced a few pins. The red had finally reached the western of Tierra del Fuego.

Because the Draka need to make sure they have a safe place to stage in the Western Hemisphere, you idiot

[Lonestar Shipbuilding and Steelworking, Galveston, 10 August 1940]

Fox had been surprised to find out the Pensacola was going through it's yard period at a private shipyard rather than a navy yard. Then he'd learned every government owned Drydock big enough for the Pensacola on the East Coast was occupied. After a few days of making sure the yardworkers weren't going to fuck up his ship (he'd issued a standing order to make Goddamn sure all hot work, civilian or otherwise, had a fire watch) he was finally ready to go on leave.

"Alright XO, I got a train that leaves in two hours. You have the number I'll be staying at?"

"Yes Sir." Bill Peuterschmit said. In fact, Fox had given it out about a million times. The Yard period had made the crew happy, while Galveston wasn't exactly a party town (and not a great Liberty Port at all for the Black and Filipino sailors) staying 5 months inport would make anyone happy.

Fox stepped off the brow, the normal "Pensacola, departing." just a background noise. The Duty driver took him to the train station, which was near the newer bridge built with WPA money. That had finally allowed the shipyards on Galveston Island become a growing concern for the local economy.

The train, for a wonder, left on time. The Train chugged northwestward, stopping at the Town of Collegestation to drop off cadets at the Agriculture and Mechanical College. Damn Aggies he thought, thinking of Bull Durham. Fox was a Baylor Man, and he knew only yokels went to TAMC. He'd seen enough of them in various wardrooms throughout his career to know it to be a truth.

The Train chugged to a stop in Waco, while a conducter came around informing passengers they will be here for a few hours. Fox groaned and got up to stretch his legs. Walking to the head (a term branded forever into his brain) he stopped and glanced at another train over by the Industrial part of the yard. It too had stopped...and it had flat beds crammed with brand new M6 Grant battle tanks.

His curiosity getting the better of him, Fox stepped off the train and walked over. He walked up and patted one of the tanks, whistling.

"Can I help you....uh, Sir?"

He turned to see a short most assuredly Jewish Army engineer with corporal stripes walking towards him. He had a sidearm and a name tag that said KAMINSKY. He was looking at Fox suspiciously, like he wasn't sure what to make of an Navy Officer touching HIS tanks.

"Calm down corporal, I'm just looking. I'm not a Snake spy."

Kaminsky looked at him again. His face didn't lend well to looking intimidating, in fact he gave off an aura of a person you'd want to go have a beer with.

" I know that Sir, Squids don't dress snappy enough to suit a Snake. Where you going?"

" I'm going to see my girls on leave. My ship's going to be inport for awhile, so now's the time to visit."

"Hmmm-mmm. If I may ask.." He pulled out some Lucky Strikes and offered one to Fox before lighting his. Fox shook his head. "...what ship you from Sir?"

"The Pensacola."

"Really? You're the guys who caught the mooks who've been gunrunning, right?"

"That's correct corporal..."

Kaminsky nodded his head, then looked back at Fox like he had failed a test.

"You know Sir, it's a good thing Snakes don't like Jews."

"How's that Corporal?"

"Sir, do I really have to bust out the 'loose lips sink ships' line?"

Fox looked down at his feet, feeling embarresed and angry. Where the Hell did this short little Jew....He looked back up, and Kaminsky was grinning, which disarmed him instantly.

"Sir, We're getting ready to go. I'm going to have to ask you to return to your train."

Fox nodded, and returned to his seat on the passenger train. After about half an hour the army train pulled away, heading South. He started North. Towards home.

You've just given me a extrapolation to start from for the US Army oob....
I was going to correct you and then I realized that the US Army would
have gotten new tanks in the 1920s, leading to much higher M- series
number. Good work lonestar.

Perhaps not if Congress still bans the Army from having tanks for a while and forces them to call everything "combat cars".

I haven't seen the US Navy's greatest, most dashing young JO in awhile. Namely, me. Or pseudo-me. At any rate, when is this suave young man going to come back in?

And really...you Mary Sued yourself...as a shipyard? :wtf:

I'm sorry, I'll replace that with a suave, sophisticated young Flag Offficer who went to Texas A&M.

Would that make you happy?

Seriously, can YOU think of a better name for a shipyard in Texas?

Incidently, just for that, Mikey Gillis is going to meet an unfortunate end in the "donkey Show" in Matamoros.

Quit calling me that. Seriously, quit it.
