Another reason to dislike religion

Post by Perinquus »

And strangely enough this one has nothing to do with Christianity or Islam.

Whale's crush on boat breaks rudder

So, up there in British Columbia, you have this lonely, orphaned whale that's separated from its pod. It trying to get, uh, friendly with boats because these whales are social animals, and it's not natural for them to be isolated like this. It's also sinking, or threatening to sink them, albeit inadvertantly. Now there is a plan to remove this whale from the river, and reunite it with its pod. All would be well, one would think.

But no.

A local Indian tribe, for I presume that's what the First Nation is, has blocked this, saying the whale is the embodiment of its dead chief.

So a potentially deadly menace to navigation is now prevented from being removed. And a lonely animal (and a reasonably intelligent one at that) is prevented from being returned to where it belongs, and where it would without doubt be happier and better off, all because of some nutty religious belief.

Really, this is a great example of how harmful religion can be. No one benefits from this, apart from some local Indians who will derive some vague, intangible "spiritual" satisfaction - at the expense of endangering boaters and forcing an animal to continue to be miserable. If they want to "commune" with their presumed chief, let them take a boat out there where this whale will sink it.

I'm all for respecting peoples' right to belive what they want. But I draw the line when that means harming other people, or even animals.

You'd think the locals would be happier for their chief to get the sweet whale poon that he so clearly wants. Poor guy is so deprived of tail that he's reduced to using boats as floating sex dolls.

This thing is clearly showing signs that would constitute loneliness and the beginnings of a depression that could lead to psychosis. Are these people *that* dense?!?

This is horrible. Whales are rather intelligent creatures, and they experience lonliness like any other intelligent creature. To keep him there will only make him utterly miserable, and eventually he'll probably loose it and beach himself. He's already so desperate for companion ship he's trying to befreind inanimate boats, he's probably out of his mind with worry and fear not knowing where his pack went.

Is there anything some animal rights groups have done or said yet? I want a fucking protest of this, cause keeping an animal isolated and miserable for ones own benefit is fucking deplorable.

And not to forget the fact it's doing something extremely dangerous. Whales are huge, powerful creatures. It could accidentally kill someone trying to get freindly with their boat, people could die, ships could be sunk. It's not just a horrible mistreatment of the animal, it's an EXTREMELY dangerous one that could cost lives if something goes wrong. Or wrong-er.

Blah

Since when did anyone care about welfare of animals unless if fits one's agenda?

As for safety, move it to a enclosure or something.

That whale is never going to leave that area now. If the Department of Fisheries tries to move it again, that tribe is going to scream bloody murder about how their religion is being oppressed.

Too bad, really....

The poor whale. They are highly intelligent creartures. The whale must be feeling very depressed from being lonely for so long. If the Indian tribe (Assuming First Natioan is a tribe) really believed the whale is an embodiment of their leader and cared for him they should let him go and have a better life in the great oceans.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.
