Co-op from 1st year university. When I was in high school, I only worked for my parents' various business enterprises, which doesn't really count as a job.

PS. That was in CDN dollars, so it would have been $10-$11/hr US at the time (the exchange rate has changed since then). Although once you add 15 years of inflation to that, the value goes up again.

Damn thats pretty good. Were you a teen or did this happen in University?

Even for Canadian dollars thats a good first job IMO.

At least you didnt have to deep fry chicken like I did. But it was across the street, short commute. And I got to drink all the soda I wanted. :)

Boundary Umpire with the Northern Tasmanian Football Umpiring Association.

Of course this was Aussie rules footy and hence pointless. BUT!

Pay was good and you had a heap of perks, but a few downers.

You had to train twice a week (not too bad as at the time I was heavily into rowing etc as well so it worked into a good regime) and travel times to games could be up to 2 hours each way. Plus you could get many games in bad towns/parts of town if the selectors didn't like you (read: me).

You could umpire anything, kiddy leagues: laughably easy and relaxing (you could walk and keep up with play) but not much pay ($14-20 a match, often doing 2 or 3 games a day)
Country leagues: not too serious, fairly scrappy and nice pay ($25 a game for div 2, $42 div 1) was a bit harder on the body however.
NTFL: serious, very fast, good teams and great pay ($30-60 a game depending on the division)
TFL: semi-pro league. Beautiful grounds, well behaved crowds and players, excellent pay ($40-$100 depending on division).

You could get finals as well that would eventually end up doubling the value of the game at the grand finals.

You also got great perks like free physio (handy as I was playing hockey and rowing at the time).

Good job but not something I would want to do again.

I was a library helper for a year in high school. One hour a day, $5.15 an hour and my bosses were all middle-aged biddies. *shudder*

I've only had three jobs in my life so far... the library thing, then once I graduated and went to college, I immediately started in the computer center ($5.25/hr IIRC, I make $8.75/hr now there). Been working there for four years, and just got my third job ever back in August ($14.49/hr).

What can I say, I was lazy :)
