WTF, no one in the museum tried to stop these fuckers. I mean what museum with valuable peices of artwork DOESN'T HAVE GUARDS?

while i should be taking this seriously. . . .i simply can't with the way the article is phrased. it's almost humorous. and on a side note, security cameras in the building managed to snag an image of the face of one of the thieves involved.

I was right, the last time the Scream was stolen was in February 1994.

Drug deals, you can use them as collaterla for drug dealsAdmiral Valdemar wrote:I hope they're art aficionados, because you don't go to a street marker and sell the bloody Scream artpiece and not get eyes on you. Like any piece of valuable art stolen be it the Mona Lisa or a Constable, you're hardly going to get people buying it to hang in their lounge.

No, what you do is discreetly sell the paintings back the museums insurance company at a discount. Its very common and about the only reason why thefts like this take place.MKSheppard wrote:Drug deals, you can use them as collaterla for drug dealsAdmiral Valdemar wrote:I hope they're art aficionados, because you don't go to a street marker and sell the bloody Scream artpiece and not get eyes on you. Funny, I thought they were refering to this work....
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Re: Scream Stolen
In San Francisco, I visited a few gallerys that were displaying a couple million worth of art. No guards, you could walk in just off the street and all the paintings were hanging unprotected on the walls.SyntaxVorlon wrote:http://www.lnreview.co.uk/news/003383.php

After I learned that the average price was around $50,000, I kept my hands in my pockets the entire time, lest I accidently brush up against one.

I hope you're not talking about MOMA because the "art" in there is putrid crap. The thought those "works" could be worth 50,000 dollars frightens me more than any Shep thread about the Middle East ever could. I don't want to believe that mankind could be capable of that, but then, I did live there for 6 years so it really shouldn't shock me.
Seriously, I'm lucky if I or any of my artist friends can sell our work for $200, and our stuff looks like what it's supposed to be. We even threw in genuine emotional impact at no extra cost while greatly reducing knee-jerk anti-authoritarian political messages that cheapen art and still don't come near $50,000.
But then, that's why I gave up on art.
