Depraved can be a compliment. I think most of us here would like to think we're depraved. Raycav was just nuts. A nutty probable stalker who liked to write unspeakable slasher "porn". Hrmm, only pic I've got that's specifically a self-portrait that I've photographed (or at least photoshopped) is this one that I made for Icewind Dale II with a BG2 style, back about 9 months ago just to add some personalized flair to my party (I barely played those sort of games for more than an hour before putting together a custom portrait for everyone in the group, even taking portraits from other games if I needed to fit the style).

It's been heavily recolored, hue/sat changed, brightness/contrast tweaked, airbrushed, and whatnot.

To expound; Some of the best photographs I've ever taken were highly off-centre, that is, the individuals or subjects weren't actually striking a pose but just acting natural. The results are rather purposefully haphazard and often very interesting to look at. Of course, most of them are of scaredy-cat people sprinting out of shady corners of spooky old buildings and the odd shadow that refuses to stay still.

You just described a lot of techniqual stuff without even meaning to. A lot of times a picture that's subject isn't dead centre is way better than if it were. A professional photographer who has its focus dead centre normally plays with the picture to make it interesting.

In short: Center is boring.

Also, photos shouldn't look horribly staged, while it's normal to strike a pose it shouldn't be like "OH LOOK ME! I'M POSING" it should be "I just happened to be this beautiful all the time"

Oberleutnant: Don't sell yourself short! That's an awesome shot. Compostion is good, plenty of negative space, interesting subject matter. You get an A from me. w00ts for you.

Nope all i did was grey scale it, resize it by 50% and add a 1px white border

A pity you didn't have to crop it, because while the photo is good now it would have been awesome with some negative space on the right side for balance.

Tehehe thank gods that's a real lensflare. That's the single most tacky thing to do when editing a photo. "LENSFLARE ME BABY"

Voila.

Cropped, colors leveling, contrast, brighten and just for shits and giggles a blue 85% filter.
