The next day

Sir Alexander arrived at the Forgein Office Building about 5 minutes early. He had been breifed on the situation, he idealy wondered how it would turn out, depended on the Asgard he guessed.

"Welcome Sir Alexander. I'm Ambassador Wilhelm Kreiger." The Asgard Diplomat smiled. He too had been briefed and was a cagey old man. "We can retire to a more private setting and resume our discussions."

Not stopping for an answer he turned on his heels and began heading down one of the hallways towards a meeting room.

The two arrived and entered. It was a plush room, well furnished and with a fire going against the oncoming winter chill.

Shi space

The Krell Wall-cruiser Adamant was heading back from the Krell salvage area towards the client worlds. It had completed a month-long tour of duty defending the Krell border and claim to salvagte rights in the former Overseer territory. It was fairly easy work, simply a matter of monitoring picket sensor posts. After all this time in deep space, it was time to head home.

On the way back to Krell space, the cruiser, of necessity, had to pass through Shi space. In order to avoid incident, it kept clear of all declared Shi holdings. A simple matter, really. Or at least, it usually was.

"Captain, I have a strange ping here."

"What is it, lieutenant?"

"Well, we passed it really fast, seeing as how we are in hyperspace. But in that last system we passed, I spotted an energy spike of a unique type. If I didn't know any better, I'd say it was the Overseer."

"We have a location on it?"

"No, sir. We flashed past it too quick. Somewhere in-system, that's all I can tell you. Do you think.... has the Overseer come back?"

"Either that or someone has violated the Krell salvage perimeter. Are you sure on the reading?"

"Well, no sir. It was faint, and it was quick. But I think it's worth investigating."

"I agree. Send the Harleys in the escort back. Orders are to get a better reading on that energy sig and a location. No further investigation at this time. Whether it's the Overseer, the Shi, or someone else, we don't want to spook em. Discreet recon, then head back to Sirius with the rest of the fleet. And a full report to military command, of course."

"Sir." The orders were relayed. 5 Harley escorts dropped out of hyperspace a few minutes later, reoriented themselves, and jumped back towards the unknown energy signature, headed for just outside the system.

"I honestly doubt anyone in the local sector approves. The Nashtar Republic is spitting mad. We're not happy about it either, they have proven to be untrustworthy and hostile. Not someone we want expanding in our general direction, not with everything else going on in the galaxy. However the reson I'm here is to ask how serious is your government in it's postion and how far are you willingly to go? Your ally Monocora seems to support this move by the Etern."

"I'm glad that you understand then. Even as remote as those days are, they don't need repeating."

The ambassador smiled.

"I appreciate the offer of aid, but I do think that such might be a bit hasty. Not that it's totally unreasonable, just that it's a bit too early to consider it. So far, after all, we've been the only ones to speak up."

New Madrid Arcology, Earth

Tacer Drealaan was mingling in the party. There were people who thanked him, people who talked to him, and people he knew who he wanted to talk to. He had just broken away from a small clump of people when two burly men in tuxedos seemed to burst forth from another group and stood on either side of him.

"Tacer Drealaan?"

"Ye... yes..."

"Come with us please."

Slowly, but forcibly, they lead him out of the room, no one noticed except for his security guards who he waved off.

When they reached an elevator one of his new escorts took a blindfold out of his jacket and wrapped it around Tacer's eyes. Then he felt a sinking feeling in the elevator, and then another rising feeling, then another sinking feeling, then another rising feeling. Finally they lead him out and walked him along another hall and into a small room where they took his blind-fold off. In the room was a human he had met before in a lose dress shirt with a tie in one hand, the political prince.

"Thank you Roscoe. Hello Minister. I hope they didn't inconvenience on the way here. That's all Roscoe.

"I hope you don't mind my state, I didn't expect you so soon. I'd like to offer you my thanks now, you, your people, and your nation have been of great help to us. I extend my, and my people's, deepest thanks. So, what would you like to talk about?"

Felis actually laughed. She put a hand to her mouth and giggled, incongruously girlishly.

"Oh, of course, my good sir. We shall mobilize our war-fleets as soon as possible, to assist you in your doubtless pressing matters of internal security. Aye, we stand by your side!"

She giggled some more.

"No, no- of course, I apologise. You are a strange person, and I can only wonder if you have been in the tunnel-warrens for too long. Of course we will not help you. Do not be foolish. Our ships are not to be wasted on some annoyance your doubtlessly incompotent internal security forces have stumbled in to.

Of course, if you have found Machine-taint or the like, we would be inclined to offer assistance, but it would be a matter for the Unification as a whole."

Matar - underground

The sealed elevator opened with a hiss before Ed emerged and pressed onwards towards his destination.

This place was deep underground in a location that few people knew about. The facility itself was a relic of a time before foreign influences had taken a negative toll on the Minmatar's future development. Not even the senate had access to the details surrounding this place, nor did they know of its existance for that matter. Needless to say it was well beyond the prying eyes of any foreign influence.

Exactly what went on here remained unknown to all but the few people of whom this facility concerned. One of them being the current Chancellor; Markus J Spyder, another being a man that's had a somewhat more low profile role in current affairs, they called him Ed. They being the few people that Ed would come into contact with outside of his duties, anyone else that knew him would likely remember him by a last name, it was never truely his last name but would work as a temporary identifier.

"I'm here to see her." Ed spoke to the duty guard through the door terminal.

"Code in please."

Ed tapped his security code into the terminal and was promptly bioscaned. This was all operated from a remote terminal in another part of the facility. It was on a rare occasion that any interaction with facility staff would involve actually seeing them face to face.

The door opened and Ed entered another dark room just off one of the side corridors. A dim blue light was eminating from the floor. Ed approached the panel and pressed the button for the release mechanism. With the sound of a hidden hydrolic arm a large glass cyllinder emerged from the floor. The cyllinder was filled with a clear liquid. Emersed in the liquid was a young woman, or at least a close approximation of one, she appeared as though she was probably in her early twenties, she had a slender figure, very pale skin that almost seemed to glow in the pale blue light. Her eyes, the deepest blue, faced forward without moving. Her hair, jet black, was just long enough to touch her neck on all sides while leaving her face visable at the front.

Ed tapped another control and the liquid drained from the tube. As it drained her hair became flat and her ragged clothing clung to her body. Her expression remained the same.

Ed stepped a little closer. As he approached her eyes quietly shifted towards him. Ed stood next to the cyllinder and looked her in the eyes.

"Sabel." He spoke.

Suddenly she lunged with open hands at the inside of the hardened tube, her hands impacting against the surface with the thud. Ed didn't move. She smiled at him as she stood up straight.

"Don't be like that Sabel, you know it pains me to see you like this." Ed said to her in a voice that couldn't lack any more emotion.

The woman suddenly keeled over and vomited some of the clear liquid out of her lungs into the drain below. She then stood back up.

"You look as though you're doing well."

The woman wiped some of the liquid away from her mouth. "Hey Ed. You here to pay your predecessor a visit?" She asked, her voice a little raspy but still not without demure qualities.

"I'm here on business. Minmatar needs you."

"MINMATAR!?" She cried. "Oh Mimatar, Minmatar, Minmatar..." She tilted her head back and forced a laugh. "The Minmatar don't need me." She sat at the base of the tube with her legs crossed. "He said so himself. He knows it all. His eyes are everywhere." She laughed.

"You've got some serious problems Sabel. If you do as you're told we can help you."

"Help me? Help me!" She cried. "Oh please Ed, help me! Take me away from this place!" Tears briefly ran down her face, immediately before her expresion of fear turned to a grin. "I'm the one that helped the Minmatar, and they helped me in return. And here we are." She cocked her head sideways before standing up. "It's for your own good Sabel. It's for the good of the people Sabel!"

"You killed a lot of people that day Sabel. Can you really blame them?"

"Of course I can silly." Sabel smiled a sickeningly sweet smile. "They're just people. Not like me. You're a human being, you have an excuse not to do it but you still do. Wanna be tube buddies Eddie? It's real cosy in here."

"I like to think I have a little more restraint then to earn a place in one of those things."

"YOU'RE A KILLER!" She screamed. "He knows it! He knows I'm better, he fears me! I'm too good for him, I'm too good for you!"

"And too unpredictable." Ed stepped over to the console. "But there's a use for you. Perhaps with a little medication." Ed hesitated as he took a moment to think. After the moment passed Ed touched the control.

"Eddie!" Sabel cried as the tube suddenly lowered itself back into the floor.

Ed left the room, as the door closed behind him me removed a pair of glasses from his pocket and put them on.

"The controled climate in there can really make your eyes water, huh?" The guard asked through the console.

Ed continued down the corridor without saying a word.

"Deal."

With that, Kain took his leave.

A very, very strange person Felis mused.
