The Veithan Empire is thrilled to participate in the Imperial Ball. President Duvolle has expressed an interest in attending personally, and currently we are involved in making preparations to that end. It is our hope that the ties which bind our nations together will continue to strengthen as our alliance prospers. As soon as we have finalized preparations we shall send a detailed manifest of the people which shall attend and the vessels which shall enter Gladsheim space.

Subj: A Proposal

We have a proposal for all nations that we think would make the galaxy a much better, and more habitable, place. We propose the founding of a 'United Nations,' an organization that would serve to bring forth the conflicts between nations and putting them to rest. Though this group would have no actual power, and would in essence be nothing more than an International Debating Society, even that would help to ease tensions at times by giving problems a place to be voiced. We would also propose that we base this, if they give their approval, on Tortuga where it will serve to help prevent the same sort of problems as that which occured on Tortuga, and would also to help rebuild their fragile economy.
The Grand Empire is tentatively in favour of this proposal and is willing to send representatives, given that this body will not have any actual power. We would not, and will not, submit to anyone, ever.
We also support the idea of a space station.

Gladsheim Prime, Imperial Plaza

<<They have both accepted the invitation, your Highness,>> her assistant 'vised her.
<<Wonderful,>> she smiled. <<Now we only have to plan out the details... I would think the Crystal Spire would be the best location. I still hope they don't suffer from vertigo. Please do me the honour and plan it. Make it grand. We surely want to impress. I will look it over afterwards.>>
<<Yes, your Majesty. And there is medic Strondsvaal to see you, too.>>
<<I will accept him,>> she nodded. The connection was instantaneous, and she was standing on a green meadow, a round table and chairs waiting there. The medic, tall as every Gladsheim, and just as beautiful, awaited her.
<<You always had a flair for green, didn't you?>> She said.
<<Yes, Your Highness,>> he bowed slightly. <<I try to spend most of my time here. Gives me solitude when I need it.>>
<<I still prefer beaches,>> she chuckled. <<But what did you have to this meeting for?>>
<<Ah, yes,>> he nodded. <<We have completed the 'upgrade' of Crown Prince Jorm's consort.>>
<<Good, and his status?>>
<<We did what we could. He will never be a Gladsheim. But we could clean up his genetic code and upgrade it within a given range. Amazing how people actually let them walk around with such an impure genome.>>
<<That's their way I guess...>>
<<Still unbelieveable... His lifespan has been adapted, and his aging process stopped, of course. We also have included some neural implants, of a very crude sort, to give him a very limited access to Datanet. He will be able to access the primitive interfaces and do some net surfing, but he will never be able to interact the same way as we can. His mind is not capable of handling it, I'm afraid. It clings to his body and would give him a very bad trauma if we tried. As would trying to give him a full set of upgrades, implants and modifications we enjoy. It would kill him. And I mean really kill, as in terminal, unrecoverable, death.>>
<<Jorm wouldn't like that at all... Terminal death... Curious thing. The last one happening to one of us is almost lost in time...>>
<<Yes, I daresay so too. He's been...protective of him. He would push me to perform the full job, and I told him he could die. But he doesn't comprehend the meaning of this death. Should his Dachlan, one day at least, decide to get a full mind copy, we could do it, of course. But it would be a very dangerous operation...>>
<<We'll cross that bridge when we come to it...>>
<<There is one other thing. A very intriguing thing.>>
<<Yes?>>
<<Telepathy. The Veithans are telepathic. Should they get children, this could be a most intriguing child.>>
<<Yes, I see your point... I would say this requires further research. Was this all?>>
<<Yes, as far as I can say.>>
<<Very well then. Good day, medic,>> and then vanished out of the representation.

While the Council of Races doubts that this initiative will be successful in bringing peace to Known Space, the White Sun Confederation supports all attempts to reduce the bloodshed among intelligent beings. We will send representatives once the details are polished up on the condition that this new organization won't in any way usurp our national sovereignity. While we symphatise with the people of Tortuga, we consider that an space station will be a better location for an organization that intends to reduce international friction than a planet that very recently almost become the hotbed of a war.

Hall of the Council
Home Prime, capital planet of the White Sun Confederation.
White Sun core territory.

"The war is coming. A war greater than anything we have dreamed with in over a century. The Ousters are a plague that has to be stopped now, before it grows too strong to be defeated. Our alliance with humans was necessary. Perhaps it was a regrettable need, but nonetheless the truth is that we have no hope if we attempt to face the Ousters alone. And you must remember that the Ousters have allies of their own, dark beings of vile soul. The war that comes will be greater than anything before. The very survival of our species is at stake and this time we cannot afford to lose. We have to prepare for a war or we will disappear from the face of the universe" said Councilor Verilon finishing the speech with which he had removed the last traces of doubt from the still reluctant Councilors.

The Sixtra loathed the idea of doing a war with humans and not against them. The Grabians didn't want a conflict where many of them might die in remote planets. The Prextazsak hated the very concept of war... But the fact is that there was unanimity among the Ethereals, something unseen in over a century. And when the Ethereals said that war was unavoidable and that their very survival was at stake, they believed them. Like a single body, the whole Confederation would soon start to get ready for a war that would shake the very stars. A war that wouldn't finish until the complete destruction of one of the sides.

United Protectorate Space
Lastport

The Veithan diplomatic ship arrived, touching down gracefully upon the landing bay it had been granted. The Veithan delegation was small, numbering a mere three individuals. The UP escorts which met them shortly after the delegation had left their ship introduced themselves and after pleasantries had been exchanged, led their guest towards the meeting place. The claustrophic world of the UP took some getting used to, the Veithan Empire possessed the technology to exploit underground resources and build underground facilities. Many Veithan cities were built almost as much down as they were up, but few nations could match the expertise of the UP in such matters. The Veithan Empire was currently deploying UP made drilling equipment that spoke volumes far more so than any corporate report.

It took a bit of time for the delegation to be escorted to its final destination, during this time the UP escorts attempted to start a bit of small talk, explaining various aspects of UP life and the subtle nuances of UP construction and architectural styles. In the end, the Veithan delegation and its escorts arrived at their destination, the Veithan delegation entering the room and quickly finding a suitable spot in their side of the table. All that was left now was for their guests to arrive, so they could do that which they had come to do. It promised to be little more than a gesture, but the Veithans were hopeful that their counter parts understood the need for it. It could be argued of course that they shared…similar interests. The Veithan delegation settled to share their thoughts amongst themselves most pertaining to the White Sun Confederacy. It was a nation highly debated by many within the Empire…

Internal Communication
To King Casimir

The ordered construction of ten specialized frigates has begun with all possible speed. The haste and economy mandated by your excellency will necessitate that our shipyards overlook certain details and will produce, in the end, an inferior warship; but as the intention of the interdictor frigates is not for combat but for auxilliary services, this should prove no significant handicap.

Re: Planning and Surveying

We find your request acceptable and give the Minmatar clearance to send a single ship to Tortuga in order to begun the planning and surveying of suitable locations for the proposed orbital station. If at any time your people wish to contact our own for whatever reason, by all means do so.

Your offer is appreciated and readily accepted with our thanks. The presence of Asgard Engineering Corps will go great lengths towards stabilizing our need for reconstruction equipment and accelerate the pace of our reconstruction efforts.

Tortuga System
Tortuga, Secure Facility

The Master of Arms frowned as he read the data in his new terminal. He was at this point almost certain that every nation which sent aid to his nation was also taking active steps in delivering spies to his world. It was a temptation few nations would be able to overlook, but Tortuga needed international aid in order to heal its wounds. The request by the Minmatar was totally expected, but the Asgard seemed to be making a strong play to the hearts and minds of the Tortugan people, especially the upper levels of power. Already, the Asgard offer was being debated and while these things would take time, increased Asgard aid would only assist their cause. He was certain, that the pro-Asgard faction within the government would take every step to point out the good the Asgard Engineer Corps will perform when they arrive to the world.

He sighed softly, shaking his head and taking a deep breath. He also had begun the process of preparing for the desired UP meeting. In his weaker moments, he actually missed the war. At least then he did not need to deal with all these threats both real and imagined. He shook his head, reaching with his right hand for an inhaler and bringing it to his mouth. He pushed the button, a sharp burst of pain blossoming in his mind as the drug took its course forcing his mind back to full activity. He could not afford to go to sleep, he had another meeting to attend…

We will we be dispatching them as soon as possible. The transports AINS Diligent, Clydesdale, and Hadrian will be arriving shortly with six divisions of the Imperial Engineers. We will honor any requests you have but we plan on focusing on restoring power, water, and sanitation facilities to your major cities as the initial goal. This we believe should do the most to ease the humanitarian burden as well as giving safe, stable centers from which to continue the rebuilding efforts.

Tacer Drealaan was mingling in the party. There were people who thanked him, people who talked to him, and people he knew who he wanted to talk to. He had just broken away from a small clump of people when two burly men in tuxedos seemed to burst forth from another group and stood on either side of him.

"Tacer Drealaan?"

"Ye... yes..."

"Come with us please."

Slowly, but forcibly, they lead him out of the room, no one noticed except for his security guards who he waved off.

When they reached an elevator one of his new escorts took a blindfold out of his jacket and wrapped it around Tacer's eyes. Then he felt a sinking feeling in the elevator, and then another rising feeling, then another sinking feeling, then another rising feeling. Finally they lead him out and walked him along another hall and into a small room where they took his blind-fold off. In the room was a human he had met before in a lose dress shirt with a tie in one hand, the political prince.

"Thank you Roscoe. Hello Minister. I hope they didn't inconvenience on the way here. That's all Roscoe.

"I hope you don't mind my state, I didn't expect you so soon. I'd like to offer you my thanks now, you, your people, and your nation have been of great help to us. I extend my, and my people's, deepest thanks. So, what would you like to talk about?"
Drealaan fixed his suit before sitting down, "I’m glad you found the time in your busy schedule to meet with me,” he glanced around the room, “though I do hope you will attend the ceremony, the view is quite fantastic.” he paused momentarily to gather his thoughts.

“I’m going to be frank, the galaxy is rapidly becoming a dangerous place, at least when the machines were the threat there was some semblance of unity, but now? Who knows! Yet, there is safety in numbers, as I’m sure you are well aware. Unfortunately my sway in the senate is waning, the popular opinion is neutrality, ‘why fight someone else’s war when you can profit from it?’, as the businessmen say. Now I don’t want to exceed my authority, so let me just say this, the support goes wherever the money comes from.

"On another note," he continued, "I’ve been receiving some reports that baeloaren engineers are dissatisfied with the human engineers that are taking over maintaining the archologies. I have to admit, I understand the situation, it is alien technology, to learn it in a month or even a year is a bit of a lofty expectation. Needless to say, a couple advisors here and there would certainly improve things. I’ve also considered, with your approval of course, opening a school of engineering, so people can be properly trained to support and maintain Earth’s archologies."

"Ah, and one other thing; a number of Baeloaren corporations have contacted me; it seems there is a significant interest in being hired on as part of the clean-up process. They have significant labor pools to work off of, and I am certain the money," he emphasized, "they would ask for is more than competitive."

Outer Tortuga system

The supply convoy bound for Tortuga emerged from hyperspace after the war had ended, arriving too late for three of the freighters. The five massive cargo vessels carrying medical supplies, however, underwent a fast change of plans.

"Tortugan government, this is the Nashtari freighter Mammoth, leading a five freighter convoy. We carry medical supplies and hospital equipment, and request permission to land our cargo and instructions for its delivery." The four escorting destroyers remained in thee system while the three weapons freighters jumped out to the system's edge.

Oort Cloud, outer reaches of the Tortuga system

Second Battle Group, Sixth Fleet emerged from hyperspace from the vector that the convoy had been scheduled to take, having had no luck with their so richly baited trap. Commodore Drayson slammed his fist on the armrest of his command chair in frustration. "Helm, form up with the weapons convoy. The Draconis Republic did pay for the material, and we'd best deliver regardless. Set course for Draconis space. Comms, relay those orders to the rest of the fleet."

"Aye, sir."

Stenner Croix
Holdworld of the House of Aleskander

Clanlord Joachim Aleksander stood upon the broad pedastal. Carved from the armored hull of a Chinese battleship, it was a relic of one of the great raids the Lords of the Houses had mounted against the NBA agressors a hundred years ago.

Aleskander wore the garb of the Clanlord. A suit of powered armor, inscribed with the names of twenty generations of the House, encased his body. A long robe, lined with ermine and decorated with the colors of the Houses, marked him as being master of all the Houses.

Hanging from thick, reinforced leather webbing was a gun- an oversized pistol, inscribed with his initials and decorated with golden scrollwork and embedded circuits.

He cut a true figure of barbarian splendor, standing above the arrayed politicians, Lords, generals, and media cameramen.

"Since my grandfather's time, the House of Aleskander has fought for the people of all Houses. My ancestors stained the stars red with their own blood, annointing us, protecting us from the aggression of the Central systems. At no time did the House of Aleskander relent in it's duty- when the tattered Moslem fleets arrived, with their advanced weapons and mighty ships, we fought. When the Chinese raiding fleets refused to differentiate between us and the moslems, we fought. For a hundred years, our resolve did not waver in our war against all who would seek to marginalize, oppress, and dishonor the great people of the Houses!"

"Now, my people, the House of Aleskander must continue to persue it's duty. No Lord of Aleskander fought to kill Moslems- he fought to protect his people. No Lord of Aleskander fought to kill Chinese- hee fought to prrotect his people. I my self was blinded to this fact. I wouold have us at the Moslem's throats, even as the forces behind the fall of the Chinese Republics breathed down our necks. No longer! The Spinwards Rim nations must unite! We must throw down our petty hatreds, and stand strong, as the Houses did four hundred years ago to appoint a Clanlord and end the time of warring Houses! "

"Today, I will go to the Moslems."

With this, he unholstered his ceremonial pistol, and laid it down.

"I will go unarmed, as a sign of peace. We will talk,a nd when the talking is finished, our peoples will be able to sleep soundly at night, knowing that the threat of foreign agression can be stemmed, by force of words, or by any means necessary."

"Unity is strength, my people. The Asgard Empire's campaign of aggression can not threaten us! Unity is Strength, and House Aleskander is the fount of all Strength!"

The audiance erupted in applause- and no one applauded louder, or with more verve, than Sanandra.

Oort cloud, Gemini system.
Minmatar territory.

The Striker was the very first ship of its class. A new variation of the modular frigate technology used by the Confederation that had transformed the Striker from a escort frigate into a strike frigate. As a result of the changes, it carried a firepower several times greater than before which coupled with an increased maneuverability turned it into a very dangerous foe for bigger warships, in spite of the loss of shielding.

After almost two weeks at top warp, the Striker had arrived at Minmatar territory. It carried the Ethereal who had been chosen to become the face of the Confederation before the Minmatar. The White Sun Confederation and Minmatar were stellar neighbours, but contact had been rare in the past. While there had been no conflicts between both nations, the Council had had no interest in dealing with a human nation corrupted to boot. This had changed with Spyder. The man opened several new doors that had been previously closed, doors that deserved exploration and analysis.

White Sun embassy.
Lastport, United Protectorates territory.

Ambassador Vopelum looked at the Veithan delegates weighing up the situation. The Veithans were the only human stellar neighbour of the Confederation with which there hadn't been any interactions in the past. Their strong telepathic powers were enough to make them dangerous at the eyes of the Ethereals. Among the Ethereals only the MindWarriors were powerful enough to invade an alien mind by force and while the Sharing provided them with a great deal of protection against telepathic probes they hadn't wanted to push their luck.
But now, the Veithans were next to him and it was time to assess their position and what danger they might represent for the Confederation, for they were a neighbour and a powerful one at that.

"My name is Vopelum. I am the ambassador of the White Sun Confederation before the United Protectorates. The authorities of the UP told me before arranging this meeting that you had some interest in my nation. What do you want to know about us?" said the Ethereal.

United Protectorate Space
Lastport, White Sun Embassy

Their White Sun counter parts arrived, Veithan eyes watching them closely while their minds intertwined into a singular whole. The Empire did not now as much as it wished about the White Sun Confederacy. It was located close to the Empire, and that made them important. Nonetheless, their joining of the UPA had discouraged any overt approaches towards gathering information, and the Black Tower was quiet on their part to be played in the scheme of things. The Veithan delegates nodded their heads as the White Sun arrived, a gesture of respect.

The Veithans understood protocol and where well aware of their own talents. Their thoughts remained their own, the Veithan minds coiled within their own selves links exchanged solely between them. There was not even a flitter of probing emanating from the Veithan; all members of the delegation were quite practiced with verbal speech. When the White Sun delegation sat down opposite them, the Veithans waited aware that the first word should come from the hosting party. When the White Sun ambassador spoke, the response was immediate. The Veithan delegate in the center, a woman with red hair and emerald eyes spoke, her lips parting as her words tumbled forth like fire from her lips.

”Your presence here is appreciated Ambassador Vopelum of the White Sun Confederacy. My name is Jezharra Massiel; my people arranged this meeting through the UP due to the lack of formal diplomatic ties between your nation and my own. As you are no doubt aware our nations are closely placed in interstellar terms and we felt it was due time that some of our people met and discussed some matters.” The Veithan woman went silent for a moment, considering the words of the Ambassador for a moment.

”We do not know nearly as much as we would like about your people Ambassador, but we know enough to be here.” She paused for a fraction of a second before picking up where she left of. “I am here in behalf of my government in order to assure the White Sun Confederacy of certain truths. As you are no doubt aware, The Veithan Empire has begun to establish formal ties with the United Protectorates. It is our hope, that we may do so with your own nation. However, that can wait. The more pressing matter for my presence is an assurance from my government, that we have neither the desire nor the inclination to initiate hostilities with the White Sun Confederacy. As such, it would be possible for you to reassess your defensive needs and come up with a more…optimal distribution of your military forces.”

Jezharra spoke candidly, well aware that the White Sun was in an enviable position. To the north were the Ousters, a force that was well known for its expansionistic tendencies and to its west, were the Asgard one of the oldest nations in Known Space and certainly one to be respected. The Unification and the UPA seemed to be clashing over the whole tortugan affair, and that was not a secret. The Empire wanted the White Sun to know, where it stood. “I am prepared to work with you in preparing a non-aggression pact between the Veithan Empire and the White Sun Confederacy at this time, should you feel that an actual document may be necessary.” Her words ceased then, emerald pools watching Vopelum closely. The Empire had extended a hand in friendship, one that would assure the White Sun at least one border that they would not need to worry about in future days. It was up to the White Sun if they accepted the offer or not. The question was could they afford to refuse?

[Grand Hall of the Imperial Palace]

Admiral Sir Alastair Von Bek strode into the chamber at the end, flanked by the Black Guard. The Admiral's blue and white, with a satifisying amount of gold braid, was set against the stark and forbidding black and red of his escort. They formed up and moved slowly down the Grand Hall to the Emperor's dias.

"My leige." Von Bek spoke the words and knelt before his sovereign.

"Sir Alastair." The Emperor rose from his dias, his sword hanging at his side. He drew it slowly from it's sheath. Pausing he watched the sharp edge glitter in the light before resting the tip against Von Bek's neck, leaning slightly on his shoulder. "Do you swear upon your immortal soul to uphold now and forever the will of your Emperor and his laws?"

"I do." Von Bek replied his pulse fluttering with excitement and trepidation.

"Do you swear up your honor as a man to defend your nation against all enemies?"

"I do."

"Do you swear to serve loyally in times of plenty and times of strife, through all the days of your House?"

"I do."

"The arise, Duke Von Bek, and know that as my leige long as my rule endures I shall support you and yours against any foe, welcome any friend, and remember always the the loyal heart and steadfast soul."

And thus the formal oaths were taken. He was Alastair Von Bek no longer but rather Duke Sir Alastair Von Bek, the ruler of New Beijing. With oaths now spoken and accepted he realized just what he was now part of. Still he smiled, a Dukedom was a nice start.

At that moment he looked up to see Kristanna Gustav smiling at him.

[Blackbird Yards, Odin Orbit, Valhalla System]

After months of frantic work the leviathins dwelling within the massive yards were being loosed. The pre-launch inspections were all complete and the workers necessary for the launch were all in position.

"All personell, stand clear. We will launch in three minutes."

The countdown continued steadily downwards in the cavernous facility. At zero minutes the umbilicals released and the massive tractor beams began easing the form of the Wulfen II superdreadnaught out of it's bay. Around the yard it's other cohorts would be birthed soon.

Re: Diplomatic representative.

We carry our ambassador for an exchange of representatives that was agreed among our governments. Must we transport him all the way to your capital of Matar or will you welcome him here?
"This is Gemini control, It has been far too long White Sun. Bring your ambassador to Gemini and we will welcome him here. We will have accomodation prepared for an overnight stay so that your ambassador and his staff may rest from their voyage. In the morning we can arrange transport to the embassy complex on Matar.

RE: Expansion

If you go through with annexing pre-warp civilizations, a state of war will exist between our nations. It is one thing to attack a nation which violates your shipping, it is another to trick primitives into servitude. They cannot possibly consent to such annexation, because they cannot comprehend the matter, and because they could not oppose you if they so chose. Proceed at your own risk.

We are massively insulted by this statement from the Republic. You brutally attack a civilian population, and dare to claim providing defense, health care, and agricultural technology to those lower on the 'technological totem pole' than yourself is immoral? May the Void take you and your slimy skins! The Etern do NOT leave those unfortunate to be classified as 'Pre Warp' by the all-wise Known Powers to their slow deaths!

Again, we do not wish to see them prey either. But we do not believe that it is right for them to be protected by become colonial puppets either. We do not wish to see them exploited by outside powers or by you.
