Because there's no reason why every shmo in the Empire who was wearing a full-enclosed helmet should be a clone. Its damn wasteful for shit like gunnery anyway. Why don't they make clone chefs for the mess for Christ's sake.

I´m pretty sure they don´t just use clones for that kind of work. In fact, the more I see of CW battles, the more apparent it seems to me that clones only make up a fraction of the Republic side, a sort of elite corps that supports normal, organic armies in the most difficult conflicts.
By the time of the OT, you probably got clones from all kinds of sources, in addition to citizens volunteering. No longer a limited force.
Another issue is the construction of the Death Star. With the Seperatists apparently starting construction on Mustafar, its open that the original Death Star was built over a period of around 18 years. This cuts down the Empire's canonical industrial capabilities, but then again, the Death Star II is untouched by this and it was still built after the Death Star was lost, for various reasons.

Can anyone with access to Hyperspace enlighten us as to whether the "Art of Revenge" picture of concept art for the Episode III Republic fighter (not Jedi fighter) is cool? Is it really an X-Wing progenitor?
(Finally, Incom gets some pre X-Wing work in the Republic).

Is this insider-info or just fan speculation? You have to be precise about such things or else someone might get a heart-attack one of these days...With the Seperatists apparently starting construction on Mustafar, its open that the original Death Star was built over a period of around 18 years.
Still, if it is true, it doesn´t mean a thing. After an Imperial attack/occupation there will most likely be a period of time when nothing is being done about the project, (possibly a few years), to let things calm down. Then the Empire might start up the project again in secret, and spend a lot of time perfecting the vital components (superlaser, the enormous engines etc.) and that will take some time as well. Before you know it, a decade might have gone by and it´s time to put the whole thing together, do test runs, blow up target-planets and voila, we´re in ANH and the DS is ready to go.
With the DS II, most things have already been figured out so all you have to do is put it together, this time without interference from concerned politicians. Thus the shorter time to operational status.
He (and by extension, his employees) have always made up strange stuff and definitons, like calling that black protocol-like droid in ANH "Death Star"-droid just because it´s on the DS. WTF kind of name/droid-type is that? Aren´t the other billions of droids on the DS "Death Star"-droids as well? What does a "Death Star"-droid do exactly? Astromechs fix stuff, protocol droids translate, DS-droids .....Sometimes I think GL's lost his nerve.
See what I mean? Wacky backgrounds since the first film. Nothing new.
I make a great Lucas-apologist, don´t I?
RA-7 (aka Death Star Droid) was a protocol droid (and a rather shitty one). Every officer on the Death Star was issued one. They were filled with espoinage stuff though, and kept a constant watch on their owners. It was called the Death Star Droid colloquially only because it appeared only on the DS.

Well, it doesn't have to be horrible. The Separatists could have started construction on the first Death Star, under wraps of course. When they're defeated by the Republic, the partially completed Death Star is captured by the Republic, mothballed, and studied. Eventually, when Palpatine cements his control of the Repbulic/Empire, he gives the go-ahead to finish the construction of the Death Star (now that they've "recovered" its plans from an undisclosed source). His reasoning is that it will become a tool to defend the Republic/Empire instead of a tool to destroy it. So the construction is restarted over ten years after it began, and finished within a short time.Illuminatus Primus wrote:God, GL is a moron...Vympel wrote:Another issue is the construction of the Death Star. Of course, that's just a possible scenario. Sure, it tramples all over what KJA said happened -- with the whole Maw Installation being thrown out the window -- but who cares?

Firstly, i just saw the pictures from Episode 3 on the last page, and i squeeled with glee when i saw DARTH FUCKIN' VADER in full armor. It'd be sad that i almost pissed myself there, but since i reguarly wear a custom made Ep. II poster airbrush t-shirt, my dignity (or it's scattered remains) shall remain untouched.
I'd like to just say though that, just because the Seperatsts 'invented' the Death Star or whatever doesnt mean that they will build it for anytime soon. Perhaps it's only when planet-sheilded worlds like Alderan started to rebel that the Emperor built it as a strategic planet busting weapon, ad before it was just a theoretical military cocept like airpower once was.

Have you checked out the new article, Dave Elsey: Monster Maker (+http://www.starwars.com/episode-iii/bts ... index.html) on the Official Site (available for all, including non-Hyperspace members)? While it perhaps can't be considered spoilers, it does includes some very interesting tidbits:
* the make-up for the burned Anakin is "graphic" and "very nasty" (sounds great!).
* the research for Anakin's injuries after the duel included "in-depth fan analysis" from the Internet (hello Dr. Saxton!)
* we will see Sidious without his hood on (there's even a picture of the mold!)
* Ian McDiarmid wears prosthetic make-up along with contacts and teeths (awesome!)
The first page deals with Hayden's make-up, the second Ian McDiarmid's make-up and the third deals with the new Chewbacca costume. This was truly a great article!
Please excuse my comments in the list above, I just got so excited. Anyway, go check it out!
EDIT: I could be wrong, but isn't it Dr. Saxton who has made the best research of Anakin's injuries?

Oh, and judging from those screenies, I hope the Emperor looks better than those pictures that surfaced from the supposed TESB DVD.

From the latest set diary- The morning begins with Ewan and Hayden doing a little sword play, mostly just little jumps, combat stances, leaping off things
- They don't like mixing green screen shots with blue screen ones. If they shot a scene with blue screen in Sydney last year, then they want to use blue screen again for the reshoot to avoid discoloring
- The door from the elevator in the Trade Federation is no longer lightsaber damaged, but remains intact
- Anakin stands on a railing, told by Lucas to contemplate how terrible a place the universe is and how Anakin would want to fix it
- Lucas shows the cast and crew the opening space battle
"Look at that..." says Ewan, turning to Hayden. "That's me and you, pal!"
- The voices heard thoughout the opening battle are Ewan, Hayden or Temuera Morrison
- The opening ends with Obi-wan and Anakin surrounded by battle droids

FFS- ok, I suppose they just took Jango's clones and trained them to be starfighter pilots as well, but goddamit (unless they're Clonetroopers or gunners aboard ships ....)

Yes, the pilots in AOTC had his voice.
I´m guessing if more clones show up now than would be possible around the time of Battle of Geonosis, it´s probably because the Kaminoans did a DS II and managed to speed up the production of clones. Probably making lots of "faulty" ones along the way, which leads us to the Stormtroopers in the OT-period. And then there´s the possibility of other systems supplementing with clones and volunteers.

Not to hijack the thread, but Stormtroopers are not "faulty".VT-16 wrote:Yes, the pilots in AOTC had his voice.

A genetic clone should not possess its template's voice. Identical twins despite being raised very similarly and being 100% genetically identical, do not have the same voice.
In a battle with no additional identification at the visual level save for color coding for broad rank, it is stupid to condition all Clonetroopers to have identical voices; it makes for difficulty identifying fellow soldiers and officers in combat.
GL is losing his hinges, I am telling you.

It´s possible the clones have been raised with educational and training recordings left by the late Jango, and have only this as a clear reference for speech. Until the OT-period, that is. They are also made to obey any order without hesitation, so if they´re in the field and hear another clone give an order, they just have to instinctively trust that it´s a commander.A genetic clone should not possess its template's voice. I´m also sure they´re making the commanders act or speak with a slight difference in the movie. At least they´re giving them names and slightly different appearances.
He´s just following an age-old cliché regarding clone-breeding. There´s a lot you can blame him for, but the specific matters surrounding Clone Speech isn´t very high on my list.GL is losing his hinges, I am telling you.
There´s been official confirmation that R2 has an action-sequence, and this might refer to it.
A new guy on the CHUD-boards claims to have "a friend at ILM", who disclosed the following info. Just so you know, I´m sceptical about this, but it´s too fun to pass up:
They have to put this in the movie, ridiculous or not! They just have to!

LOL!Okay. I'm assuming this is the scene Pablo is referring too. You guys remember the Super Battle Droids from Episode I? The ones that rolled, had their own force field generators, and what not (Droidekas)? There's a scene where a bunch of these things assault R2.
He fights back using his flamethrower, patented Ewok Butt shock-prod, and other doohickeys. Spunky little guy! Sounds cool so far. But apparently there's a part where R2's basically defenseless and a Droideka's going to let him have it. So what does our Astromech Action Hero do? He extends his third leg and "kicks" the Droideka in its mechanical "balls", causing it to collapse/scream.
Don't ask me to explain this. My friend couldn't.
They have to put this in the movie, ridiculous or not! They just have to!

I suddenly realised something, That old concept art of the ARC-170 fighter, it reminds me of the Imperial Waveskimmers from DE. Coincidence?
