Or me. Why do people keep forgetting that I defeated and looted an entire Overseer system by myself?
True... but we're the ones with the homicidal tendacies around here, the Ousters because... they're well Ousters and me because I really don't like things that burn my planets. Then again, who does?
But burning planets are fun
And my guys certainly have no problems with that. *g*

I recently had an epiphany. All these brainscan/clone immortality schemes are fundamentally flawed. If a Ravenlock citizen gets killed, as far as he's concerned, he's dead! Sure, there will be a copy of him running about in a few days, but it's not really him. Humans aren't "souls' which can be transferred to machines, we are chunks of grey meat inside a little bowl of bone. If that's destroyed, we are DEAD.
A soldier's family may think he's alive, and his copy may think he's him, but he's not. The guy who died is still dead, and he still got to experience the terror and dismay of death.
It's a trick, which looks like immortality, but isn't.

According to the Vampires (who claim to be able to see and even consume souls) human beings do indeed have souls. On the other hand, they have also said that the various technological and cloning methods do not actually accomplish the purpose of preserving actual immortality, much as you have said. On yet another hand, the vampires may very likely be lying about either the existence of the soul or the effectiveness of these substitutes for immortality--just to be assholes. It is important to remember that they have no souls, themselves.

Any of you bitches who want your characters to be legit immortals instead of pale copies, you know where to go.

Talking with you IC, you mean? Well... And now that it seems that everything is about to explode, I don't think that talking would lead anywhere.

Hell, he even out did them since he BDZed quite a few planets of mine. The PRC only got what, two or three? Dahak is definitely in the lead.
Thirdfain wrote:Let's be fair, Corneria hit major city-worlds, while Dahak was hitting border systems. He porbably inflicted fewer casualties.
I'd have to look at the respective OOBs, but the worlds weren't exactly lightly populated and he got more of them to be sure. Especially since they were far more thorough than the Cornerians.

I think it ought to be remembered that the Ousters have revealed absolutely no in-game intentions (at least not intentionally, and not to you, anyway) of destroying the entire universe or conquering and enslaving the free peoples of Middle Earth. As far as anyone is concerned in the game they are just a rather aggressive nation-state.

As a matter of fact, we've fought hard against the Machines, and have at one point devoted a full 3rd of our forces to assistingf refugees from the Rape of Terra!
We aren't bad guys, really. Just expansionistic. Hell, we even made deals with the Asgard over some of our expansions.

I have to agree with this, the Ousters in game have been remarkably well behaved. Sure they're agressive enough but then again most nations have by now. And frankly, some of the other nations have done far worse than anything the Ousters have. Hell, any nation that survived the Floater/Genocide Wars has done far, far worse. (Cleansing of Durandalia anyone?)
You might be concerned, I know my people are (and not just because they're semi-Floaters), but the kind of dramatics you're displaying is definitely trading too heavily on OOC information.

I think that the problem comes from my start, probably as a result of not reading all the relevant information. IIRC, I had an idea about giving the Ethereals some kind of vague precognitive powers that I later decided to be not within the limits defined for mentallic/magical abilities, so I ruled it out. The problem is that by then I had written some things in my OOB and my first posts with frigidmagi about the "Ouster menace" (it probably had something to do with me placing the WSC next to the CoG sector controlled by Thirdfain).
Now I have to deal with the results of some bad ideas. However, I think that we can solve it. The Confederates are isolationists and xenophobes (it is in the OOB, IIRC) and they had been left more or less alone for fifty years. They did not care a lot about humans for as long as they weren't united against them, but then the Ousters appeared and occupied several systems next to their border. At this point the Ethereals had an epiphany: the Ousters were the new Great Menace that had to be stopped. In conclussion, where the Confederation would have just feared the Ousters for being powerful expansionistic humanoids, the Ethereals have managed to make them the focus of a true hatred.
In about a month game time the first half of the 5th War Cluster's escorts will be launching. They will include some new warship models, which represent slight changes in warship design rather than drastic improvements in technology.
Force Declaration:
"Killfrenzy"-class Escort Frigate (Pattern Beta)
Dimensions: 400 meters*125 meters
Powerplant: 2 light Fusion cores
Armaments:
5 PD Clusters (Pattern Epsilon)
3 Light HEL Lances
Description: The "Killfrenzy" represents a general modification on the older Tarsis-class Pattern Alpha escort frigates. The Tarsis mounted Pattern Delta PD clusters, which were Ouster-standard devices with pulse-xasers, guassgun kinetics, and antimissile pods. The new Pattern Epsilon PD clusters trade the pulse-xasers and guassguns for small-scale fusion hellbore beams. These near-lightspeed weapons have a lower firing rate than the previous models, but carry the firepower necessary to score fast kills on shielded missiles and fighters. Essentially, the "Killfrenzy" is optomized for dealing with smaller volleys of heavy missiles or torpedoes rather than vast swarms. It's a tradeoff, and the "Tarsis" models are not expeccted to be discontinued. The "Killfrenzy" is also the first Ouster warship to be built from the keel out with supplementary arcane sensor systems; all other Ouster vessels have retrofits.
"Unwavering Loyalty"-class Raiding Carrier
Dimensions: 1.4 km long, 400x300 meters in cross-section
Powerplant:
1 Capital Fusion Plant
Armament:
1 Spinal Laser Lance
2 Torpedo Tubes
6 Heavy HEL Lances (broadside)
2 M/AM Cannon
30 PD clusters
Strike Wing:
20 interceptors
10 fast bombers
5 heavy bombers
2 gunships
Description:
The Unwavering Loyalty-class Raiding Carrier is a cruiser-sized warship designed to provide a mobile fighter base to independent Cruiser raiding squadrons. Her shielding is far from excellent, but her armament is decent, her strike wing is solid, and her maneuverability and speed is almost unmatched. Like the Killfrenzy line, her sensor suites were purpose-built to include arcane components.

It depends on how much happens. There's currently no direct game-to-RL modifier, as time is somewhat fluid in the STGOD due to the nature of the format.
Essentially, it's not too far away, but it's not tomorrow either. Depending on how much happens, it could be a RL week away or an RL month, or more.

Murazor wrote:Little question: how long in real time is a month in game time?
There's no specific time, it mostly goes on the common consent of the players. It's done because some long back and forth actions like battles would actually be relatively short events in universe.
Well, over the next ten months, the White Sun Confederation fleet will suffer a big redesign with the introduction of three new warship designs.
Force declaration:
Decommissioning of 2 motherships (reduction of the number of fleets from 7 to 5 with redistribution of effectives).
Building of 3 dreadnoughts (from 7 to 10). Most of the material comes from the two decommissed motherships.
Decommissioning of 10 Cluster class cruisers.
Building of 10 new cruisers using material from the decommissioned cruisers.
Modification of almost two hundred frigates (all belong to the same basic model, but are to be modified for new mission profiles).
Constellation class cruisers.
Dimensions: 1.3 km long.
Powerplant: 1 protomatter reactor. 2 M/AM power plants.
Hull: Metacrystalline armour.
Shields: Gravitic field/deflector screen.
Armament:
1 Spinal mounted turbo-blaster.
1 Spinal mounted mass driver.
2 Capital dual pulse grasers (turreted).
2 Capital dual turbo-blasters (turreted).
5 Capital grasers.
10 Capital disruptors (broadside).
8 Capital pulse grasers (broadside).
3 Torpedo tubes.
50 PD lasers.
FTL: Transpace/Warp.
Description: This new class of cruiser includes most of the advances in militar technology acquired by the Confederation over the last few months. Instead of the cigar like shape of the Cluster class, the Constellation has a sleek dagger like hull that provides a much wider range of fire for its turreted weapons. It has almost a 25% firepower advantage over the Cluster class, a deflector screen that provides back-up shielding in the event of failure of the gravitic field and improved speed and maneuverability. As a last addition, the Constellation class can create Transpace portals (after several minutes of preparation and powering up the drive). Obviously, the main disadvantage of this class is that it is a lot more expensive to produce than its predecesor.
Striker class strike frigate (powerful mid-range forward weaponry and high maneuverability).
Revolt class pocket carrier (it carries 15 interceptors or strike fighters, but only has point defense weaponry).
The cruisers and frigates are the priority and after six months, they will be completed and work in the dreadnoughts will start in earnest. As the cruisers are not being build simultaneously but on three batches, in two months there will be three completed.
Blah, it's the GLADSHEIM Grand Ball. Fine, I didn't want to go to your stinky ball anyways.
And by the way, everyone, if you are looking for effective and side-effect-free immortality, look no further than the famous Krell the Deathless. Although, I guess side-effect free isn't entirely true. I mean, the guy is kinda nuts, and if I said his immortality had nothing to do with that, I would be lying. But still..... HA!
