Yeah, I wish he would just admit that he's become disgusted with the fundamentalism and just plain low-blow behaviour of the Republican Party. He could do a lot to help clean that up if he tried; there are a lot of moderates that would support him.
And very probably lose his Senate seat as Arizona Republicans are a pretty conservative bunch and would vote him out in a primary election.

That almost happened to 4 term Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania who won his primary election this year by 2% over Pat Toomey.

Fucking asshole.
I'm starting to suspect that McCain is far more conservative when it comes to foreign policy then he's let on. If he honestly believes half of what was in his speech, then he definitely has a lot more in common with Bush's view of the world than he's stated.

Yeah, very much so. Arlen Specter shimmied like crazy to the right because his reputation as a RINO was starting to hurt him with conservative voters, even though he built his career on being palpable by both the right AND the left in PA. (unlike Rick Santorum, our very own Hyper-Conservative Fundie From Hell... sometimes I think he gets elected just so we can keep an eye on him)

Likewise, I think that McCain got a very strongly worded memo to consider where his loyalties lie. He can't afford to be too split with the President and the Conservative majority of the Republican party.

On the program tonight:

"The Land of Oppurtunity"

Appearing is Dick Cheney who wil be introduced by his wife. Cheney will focus on the positives done this last term.

Democrat Zell Miller who will outline some of the Bush agenda.

The claim is that this day will focus on playing to the base. SO that means prepare for fundie, pro-life, anti-gay bullshit flying fast and furious.

Obviously, since Cheney is running the shadow government, they don't want him up there, exposed to the public, for very long.

Perhaps, perhaps not. He hasn't been supporting a lot of the fundamentalist agenda (he was of the Republicans that voted against the Gay Marriage Ban) and he's critisized the some of lying attack ads directed against Kerry. They might well cut him some slack simply for having integrity and decency, they have so far.

Out of curiosity, why is Kerry running around holding events, now? I thought the other guy was supposed to lay low during your convention.

The whole American election system is screwed seven ways from Sunday, I'm sure Kerry can continue in this flagrant popularity contest of style-over-substance fallacies as long as he wishes. It's becoming alarmingly clear that logic is not a part of the selection process anyway but who has the most rabid and "American" fans cramming into their political fudgeholes.

Jesus, but just thinking about that choir singing to that abomination of a video the otherday makes me cringe.

I'm pretty sure that the tradition has been that the president lays low during the opposing side's convention. The non incumbent has campaigned during the President's campaign going back to Clinton I believe who was campaigning hard during the RNC.

They didn't campaign. They simply issued terror alerts. That's not campaigning at all!

By the way, in case anyone was counting, the number of protestors arrested now tops 1,700.

Last night alone 1,100 were arrested for disorderly conduct outside the Garden and 7 Act UP activists were arrested inside the Garden after they started heckling a speaker on the podium.

Apparently they exercised their First Amendment Rights a bit too 'effectively' for the Mastodons' comforts...

Forgive me for sounding unsympathetic, but they were blocking traffic and being nude in public (2 different protests).

And IIRC, Bush went on vacation during the DNC.

1,700 people were all being nude in public and obstructing traffic when they've herded the protesters and closed the roads near the RNC and Stravo says it looks so barren that its like 9/11 all over again?

Uh no. See here in NY where it happened it was ONE protestor that beat the P.O and he was caught on camera and arrested the next day as he took part in another protest.

7 Act UP protestors were arrested for heckling a speaker on the podium.

We're talking about 1,100 people arrested in one day. In the NY Post we have articles bragging about NYPD tactics like plastic nets to haul away groups of people at a time.
