Yes. We propose the Lizards are backpedalling so hard they will trip over their tails, were they not so firmly between their legs. You have openly stated you think these people should die; I do not trust the Republic, both for this ice-hearted statement and for their ineptitude in the events surrounding Tortuga. You are not improving matters by regurgitating the things we have spoken of beforehand and claiming credit.
"We all evolved through evolution. It is a simple matter of nature, it is not immoral, which rejects morality, but it is amoral, which has no concept of it. Even sentient beings are subject to it.

But I digress.

Your operation here is not non-interventionist. That is the problem. If you wish to help these people the best way to do it is not to come down in your ships and give them hospitals. This may sound somewhat odd. But what should be done needs to be more subtle. A few, select individuals, need to be.. conditioned, to be able to use science. Taught the basic s of mathematics, of their races biology, of ethics. We need to figure out a way to do that in secret. Be it by using their own governments, or by.. actually training one or two to do so.

History has been punctuated by a few individuals who were truly extraordinary. The likes of plato, Aristotle, Archimedes, Copernicus, Kepler, Darwin. We need to imitate that as best we can so these cultures can grow rapidly, but not quite unnaturally. We can give a few individuals these basic concepts, and they will run with them on their own. WIthout our presence ever needing to be known to the people at large.

"I have been operating on good faith, that the intelligence agencies of the Etern are wrong, that you all actually have other people's welfare at heart. The failure here to tackle the very real situation of people dying if we do not act shows that they were right, and I was wrong. You all are putting petty ideas of borders and fear first." The Etern spat on the floor. "Grow your appropriate genitalia. If you fear the Etern's borders, speak up, do not cower like children between poorly coordinated lies."

Not necessarily. If we say, disguised ourselves as hermits, or some other member of their own species, it may be doable without being seen as godlike.

You give them the basics of mathematics, combined with the earlier suggestion, they would not rule at all. They would be authors and scholars. However. As you are set on this path, we will conceede the point.

Count Kladivo laughed, "This idea of the Draconis appeals to my sense of humor. It would indeed be salutory to use this method, as it would accelerate their development and skew their society just enough to give a small number of men the knowledge to create of themselves an elite ruling class with a monopoly on knowledge, while simultaneously providing no guidance and still taking many centuries or millenia to develop to any level of modernity. It would be better to do nothing at all.

"The powerful stupidity of the arguments presented against the Etern are a source of great amusement to me. It appears that you have already set yourself against this move and are merely come up with excuses for your obstinacy. Why persist in this charade? It would be best to simply admit the true reason, that you fear the future power of the Etern should they complete this expansion and exploit the resources of these systems. Move your fleets to oppose the Etern, declare a state of war... but cease your hypocritical posturing and lies."

Morals.. are something to be discussed. It isnt that we have no morality, but rather that our morals are a bit.. different, and evolved under different circumstances. They arent going to be the same for every culture.

"If there are no other comments to be made.. And none of you wish to admit to the purpose of being here as fearing our borders.. We will head to the negotiations. I remind you all you were brought as observers not to negotiate yourselves. We have extended this session of bickering as a sign we wish to compromise, and with those nations who are not rabidly opposed to assisting others, we will compromise. To those who had their minds made up coming here.. Be silent in the negotiations."

An Ornate Room

Subvoice of the Hajr Kimar su Achtzehn firmly shook the hand of the dignitary.

'Bondman Lord, the Speaker is pleased that we have reached an agreement. Our blood will mingle amongst the stars, our weapons will speak alongside one another, and our chirurgeons will heal the flesh of your wounded as your do the same for our fallen. Our fists will strike in unison, and in the end, the Etern will fall."

"Against a combination of powers such as this, have they any hope?"

*Encrypted and hand delivered*

We think it would be prudent for us, as allies, to engage in a series of Naval war games to improve our co-operation and preparation for what we fear may be an inevitable war. We will be sending our eigth, ninth, and tenth fleets to these war games should they be agreed to. Suggested deep-space co-ordinates, and suggested uninhabited system co-ordinates are attached.

First, Sixth, and Sevent Battlefleets and the Seventh and Ninth Battlecruiser Sqadrons are on their way now for a rendevous for these war games. Except them shortly.

Admiral Von Bek actually revelled in being back in space and aboard his new flagship. While she was still new the veterans of her crew had her will in hand and all them were eager to show what they could do. They would be testing their skill and none intended to be less than the best.

Vice Admiral Stryborn in contrast had fumed most of the way to Monacora. His dislike for Von Bek's ambition was growing after see the naked pride on the man's face. The men respected, even loved him, for the hero. But for Sven it was too much.

From: The Atlantian high counsel
To: All space fairing governments

In the short time we have been a part of galactic society we have learned much of how other societies grow and expand, and in doing so we were shocked. While it is understandable for most races to be different than ours, it is frightening how many choose to disregard the order. For the first time since we reached the stars our race is frightened as a whole. Confrontation and conquest are foreign concepts to us and the attitudes that these beliefs breed are deemed to be a threat to our people. So it is with much despair we must abandon our new pod mates in order to secure our own safety. Unfortunately though in the past we simply would have returned to our ancestral breeding grounds where safe in the undersea caves we could out last any threat that is no longer an option. Through no choice of our own someone has learned of our home’s location and therefore it is no longer safe. We have already begun the process of demolishing our cities soon none but the oldest on Atlantis herself will remain. Proper adjustments to a few species population to cover our absence and keep our order stable. Once all of these processes are finished all citizens will leave for a location beyond the immediate reach of other nations, please leave us be do not seek us out.

End transmission

Meanwhile on New St. Paul The staff of research station Orcanis finished removing all traces of the dome they had for a short time called home. They had managed to compile a large amount of information by continuing where human researchers had left off, including a promising new anti-bacterial agent that could be used to treat many common infections. They copied this information along with detailed explanations on how to build their recycling technology as was originally agreed upon. After sending all information to the capital they boarded their craft and blasted free from the planet to join their people.

In the end all that remained on the site of the once productive laboratories was a single plaque depicting the signing of the treaty and a simple prayer for protection written in Atlantian.

To: Etern goverment
From: Star Kingdom of Manticore, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

We are announcing our politcal and military support for your ongoing colonization attempt of the 24 'pre-warp' worlds. While our citizens frown on interference with primitive cultures, His Majesty has approved the Royal Manticoran Navy and Royal Marticoran Merchant Marine to provide both police and logistics aid. We shall begin shipping volunteers and supplies, if you approve, to strengthen the colonization effort. We eagerly await your response.

In order to reach a comproise we suggest the following.

That other nations also be stationed on these worlds to aide in the work. This would prevent the people from being ill used and allow them some freedom of choice in their future paths. When the natives of the worlds in question have the education and techonogly to travel to the stars on their own power that they chose for themselves who they ally to if anyone.
No one power would be alone on any world allowing no one any undue influence.
We accept and applaud the UP for joining us in this endeavour. We will, of course, accept any other nations who will pledge similarly, and we will all work together for the maximum benefit.

A single Mark class destoryer cruised out of Lastport carrying a slightly stressed Ambassador Sir Joseph Venizelos toward the Stellar Kingdom of Manticore.

"Is this all the data we have on them?!? They're practically next door. Good God, they're a Unification member in our backyard, you think information on them would be important." He cried to his attache.

"We should be able to learn much once we arrive, hell they're so close it won't take very long."

Duke Nethington chuckled as the conversation went on. "Your arguments, while carrying some, extremely limited, merit are only poorly hidden excuses for your real reasons to be against this. You fear your own dominance of space could be questioned. But the Draconis and Nashtarians seem to be too stuck in their fear and come up with this threadbare excuse. The Etern on the other hand, are concerned with these people and are willing to help. A laudable effort. Something the Grand Empire is only happy to support."

Oni got off his bike. Time to finish up the last of his objectives. He grabbed a big labelled with the name of a well known fast food place, telekinetically closed a set of contacts within his bike, then stepped onto the slidewalk. He quickly got away from a rather ritzy neighborhood, which happens to be the home of a large percentage of the Senate of the Draconis Republic.

He proceeded to the Senatorial Office Building. There, he ate some of the contents of the bag, and proceeded to drop it into a trashcan. From there, he proceeded to the Presidential Palace.
several minutes later, the garbage collecters came by. laced the contents of the trash can in a hover vehicle, and, as this was the last load, cleared the canopy and accelerated rapidly into orbit, where an unmanned garbage barge waited for this last load before heading toward the sun.

It opened a jumppoint, went through, and several moments later reoppened it. Encased all the garbage in a magnetized sphere, and used a railgun to hurl it all into the sun.

It was vaporized before it ever reached the surface.

Presidential Palace

Oni looked at his watch. It was time. He looked through the weave, and twisted it. Him, the presidential palace, the President, and part of the surrounding area vaporized. The shockwave and heat flash from this devasted large portion of the city.

Fairly soon afterward, his bike exploded in a 400kT explosion, turning that bit of the city into an expanding ball of gas, killing those Senators who were home for the night, which was most of them.

[VNN] Veithan News Network

New Veithan Colonies?

With the formation of the Veithan Sphere and the annexation of former Covenant of God territories, the Veithan Empire has gained access to several new territories. These territories have signaled a larger Empire and has fueled the economic expansion of the Empire. However, over the last two months or so many Veithan colonists have been moved to apparently new Veithan colonies. The location of these colonies, termed “Virgo” and “Sagittarius” remains a mystery. VNN has taken steps to try and ascertain the locations of these new colonies, but our inquiries were met with silence on the matter. A source within the Veithan military that is familiar with the matter, was quoted as saying the following. “With the current situation in the galaxy at large, I am not surprised that there exists some layers of secrecy in some matters. If there are new Veithan colonies which exist, revealing their exact location to the galaxy at large before they are secure would be folly. I think that this is one of the cases…”

Veithan Economy shows signs of slowing

The Veithan Economy which has been making record gains since the formation of the Accord and the subsequent formation of the Veithan sphere has shown the first signs suggesting a slow down. A thorough array of economic tests carried out by the University of Caille over the last week suggests, that the Veithan economy is reaching a plateau where economic growth will slow over the following quarter and then eventually level of. The news was not surprising, many analysts within and without of the Veithan government had pointed out that Veithan economic expansion could only last so long. Professor Ramius T. Mambala of the University of Caille, had this to say.

“Everything is finite, and the Veithan Economy does not violate this rule. Over the last six months, the Veithan Economy has been driven by demand for its goods, particularly in the areas of defense. With the introduction of the Accord, internal trade between the Ravenlock consortium and to a lesser extent with the Gladsheim has allowed the Veithan economy to continue its gains as new markets were made available. With the formation of the Veithan sphere, and the star nations of Manasa, Myheri and Kalderi, those markets have now as well begun to be make themselves felt and the demand for Veithan goods was and still remains considerable. Nonetheless, the rampant demand for Veithan goods could not be maintained at their original pace, and now, as the demand falls back due in part to saturation of goods, and the fact that most defense needs have already been met, the Veithan economy will slow over the coming quarter.”

”The fact that the Veithan military has been swallowing a significant amount of resources monetary and otherwise is another reason why the Veithan economy is slowing. The military is consuming a significant amount of the Veithan economic surplus. I want to make clear that I understand the reasons for this fact. The Veithan military in these troubled times is essential for the continuity of the Empire. Nonetheless, it is certainly a reason for the economic slow down. In order to maintain its momentum, the Veithan Empire has focused outward and begun to establish better relations with the United Protectorates. I believe that this move is due in part, in order to open new markets to Veithan goods. The Veithan economy is still going strong, it simply is showing signs that its Herculean like gains, will no longer be easily maintainable.”

Veithan Sphere strengthens

The so called “Veithan sphere” which revolves around the Veithan Empire, the Star Kingdom of Manasa, the Myheri Republic and the Kalderi nation continues to show signs of strengthening. The sphere is dominated by a wide array of treaties, linking individual economies into a sort of free-trade zone. Each nation is involved in a mutual-defense pact, allowing the sphere surprising flexibility in dealing with various forms of internal and external threats. Piracy is down nearly two hundred and twenty five percent within the Sphere since its founding. Individual star nations once in the shadow of the Empire and other major stellar powers, have found a multitude of uses to the increased freedom membership within the sphere allows them. The militaries of the Manasans and the Myheri in particular, with the assistance of Veithan scientists and engineers have undergone remarkable transformations. Beneath the careful eye of the Veithan Empire, the member nations of the sphere have completed a series of expansions, designed to drive off long-term pirate bases in nearby space. The sphere has become a major trade partner and broker in its general area of space, the internal cries of hegemony and oppression by some of its member nations largely silenced. The future of the Veithan sphere seems to be a bright one, and rumors seem to suggest that without any Veithan participation, the Manasan, Myheri and Kalderi star nations are in the verge of adding another nation to the sphere itself.

Veithan Empire supports UP actions in Amarr situation

In a news conference President Duvolle spoke in support of the United Protectorate actions against the Amarr. The move by the UP to defeat the Amarr navy and occupy the planet was met with a degree of skepticism by the Veithan population enough so that the president himself felt it necessary to speak in the behalf of the UP. In a relevant portion of his speech, the president was quoted as saying the following. “The Veithan Empire supports the actions by the UP against the Amarr, for a multitude of reasons; Chief among them being the Amarr practice of slavery, and the litany of human rights violations which the Amarr government perpetrated against the slave majority of the planet ranging from torture to rape.” After his speech, the president allowed the minister of foreign affairs to continue debate on the topic. VNN news was approached by the UP government and offered the chance to travel to the Amarr home world and participate in various trials against the Amarr ruling class. This is an ongoing story, and we will have more on it as the news develop.

Gladsheim support Etern proposals

The Gladsheim a member of the so called “Veithan Accord” has expressed its support for the Etern proposals pertaining to the establishment of a protectorate in order to protect twenty four distinct civilizations, the oldest of which is currently in the iron age while the youngest is still in the hunter and gatherer stage of their evolution. The move has come under heavy criticism by a myriad of sources, claiming that the Etern move is a naked land grab which will allow them to double their territories and grant all the advantages that this would entail. While the remaining two members of the accord, the Ravenlock Consortium and the Veithan Empire remained silent on the matter, the United Protectorate Alliance seemed to be quite against the Etern actions. The Asgard, a member nation of the so called “Unification” also seemed to be against the Etern proposal, although Monacora a central nation to the “Unification” supported the Etern moves. When some of our reporters approached a senior member of the Veithan military, well aware of the Accord with the possibility of rift developing between Accord members, he had this to say. “Although the Gladsheim are a valued and trusted member of the Accord, everyone within the Accord is aware that no nation can speak for another. The Gladsheim are well within their sovereign rights in choosing to support the Etern proposals. This does not signify a change in policy within the Accord, nor a rift. Ultimately, I expect that Accord representatives will meet and exchange ideas as to where the best interest of the Accord and the individual nations lies.”

Update! Counter proposal to Etern protectorate by the UP gains support by the Ravenlock, Veithan, Asgard and Gladsheim nations.

In a move that surprised many analysts, a counter proposal to the Etern desires with the establishment of its proposed protectorate has been offered by the United Protectorates. This proposal garnered the support of the Ravenlock Consortium, the Veithan Empire, the Asgard and the Gladsheim. The counter proposal would make the establishment of the Etern protectorate an interstellar affair, lessening the burden upon the Etern while at the same time, lessening the immediate gains that the Etern would gain from the establishment of the protectorate. A Veithan professor within the University of Caille had this to say. “If we are to believe the Etern and that their desire to setup the protectorate was wholly in part to protect the civilizations within from annexation by hostile powers, the compromise should be readily accepted. It limits the ability of the Etern from using these planets as manufacturing centers for their military, and with this limitation should ease many of the fundamental fears of many star nations. Ultimately, these civilizations will be protected, only now they will be protected by a coalition of powers. This system has its own inherent checks and balances, and is far superior to the original Etern proposal.” The Veithan public, seems to agree with the position of the Professor. The Veithan information grids are abuzz with activity, many particularly pleased that the Accord seems to be once more united on the issue.

The transport hung in orbit, initial scans showed it was, without any doubt, an unarmed transport filled with completely unimportant things. It had a single fusion reactor powering its unimpressive systems, along with a run of the mill Baeloaren FTL drive. The Draconis inspection shuttle quietly slid through space, eventually docking to one of the transports docking ports.

Activing Pressure Seal . . .
Seal Achieved.
Pressurizing . . .
Pressure Achieved.
Opening Outer Doors . . .
Process Achieved.
Scanning Pressure Bay. . .
Scan Complete.
Inner Airlock Door Opening. . .

With a slight hiss, the large airlock door opened, revealing the rather short looking Draconis inspection team. Standing in front of them was the Fleeting Grace’s captain, Annhamar Bazzlak, at his side was one of his officers, along with a worker, the captain’s personal aid, who was holding a datapad.

“Welcome!” Bazzlak announced cheerfully, “welcome to my humble ship, I hope this won’t take too long, I’ve got a tight schedule to keep, Eam, please give these fine gentlemen our ship’s inventory, roster, and schedule.” The tall worker bent down and handed over the datapad. It contained an inventory of the ship’s cargo, its roster of crew and passengers, and a map, with all cargo and personnel labeled.

"I am Captain Tarak, please to make your aquaintance"

"We will of course have to do a hand scan for anything illegal.. bombs and the like. After that is done, your passengers will need to go through our standard processing."

With that, a team of customs marines looked over the data pad, and climbed through the ship with hand scanners. Yes... climbed. It was better for them anyway.

This also let them search any nook and cranny of the ship that could be missed by human inspection teams. though, it was 'probably' a bit unnerving to the passengers and crew. TTheir sense of smell was also employed. Just in case

((find anything suspect))

The ship was clean. As the inventory showed, the weapons locker carried half a dozen small pistols, for emergencies. The ship's shuttle craft were all in order, none filled with high powered explosives. No crazy magical teraton bombs the size of a briefcase, no anti-city bicycles. For Captain Tarak, this was business as usual. The only thing out of the ordinary he noticed was that there were two difference species of Baeloarens, something quite uncommon. Otherwise, there was nothing, the ship's structure was sound, its reactor was well maintained, the Fleeting Grace didn’t have anything even remotely suspicious, unless you considered comfortable chairs and assorted office supplies dangerous.

We have transport shuttles which will be bringing both passengers and equipment down, once we have clearance, of course.
