The fundamental problem with the Oni post is that Direct Conversion technology as I see it is cracked. Firstly, as long as you can sneak the conversion core, you can fill it up with just about anything and make it work. Carrying around .5kg of -something- is not that hard, and as long as you can sneak the DC core, you can have a 400kt blast that can cause massive casualties.
This technology caused a great deal of controversey in STGOD 2 (and the scale to which it was used) and frankly, in this STGOD which is far lower tech, it is readily open to abuse. Once again, I have no problem with Oni being badass. However, this DC business does not fill me with a great deal of confidence.

We werent around.Beowulf wrote:A 400kT nuke isn't any larger than what could conceivably fit onto a bike. Ever see a picture of an ICBM warhead? The DC bomb is non-nuclear, and so there isn't any nasty alpha, beta or neutron radiaton to worry about. The DC bomb does require rather easily identifable electronics. It ain't hard to find when you know what to look for. Anybody who knew about the OU in it's heyday, before it fell, should be familiar with what they used, and could find it.Marcao wrote:The fact of the matter is that if Oni can utilize these 400kt DC conversion bombs with any sort of regularity, Oni can concievably cause oodles of damage just about anywhere.
I dont think so.. just..nyet... being able to hit someone with a what... roughtly 30 hiroshimas with nearly complete impunity... fuck no

I should like to point out that the electronics for the bomb, as far as I can tell, underwent inspection by customs.
I would also like to point out that it is the responsibility of the player undergoing the inspection to tell the inspecting player if anything is perhaps not quite right. It's one thing to sneak something past customs so that they don't inspect it, or to have it smuggled to the planet to entirely avoid the usual checkpoints (that takes work elsewhere, avoiding patrols and so forth), but to stand there straight faced as customs looks directly at it, scanning it with all sort of sensors to make sure it is not anything overly dangerous and claim they would find nothing out of the ordinary when in fact they are looking at something that can create das-uber bomb is not cool at all.

Probably not, but at least justice prevails this way. I don't care if he doesn't like it. I don't like someone who can destroy any of our governments (with a couple exceptions like the Gladsheim with their cheatery mind transfer tech) with total impunity.Hotfoot wrote:Rogue 9, you're not helping.

The entire usage of the DC bomb is currently in question Rogue9, and remember that he cannot place the Draconis senate and president whereever he wants. The senators may have houses in that sector of the neighborhood and what not, but they may not necessarily be there. I agree with Hotfoot that your post is not helpful to the entire situation. I can understand your frustration, but ultimately, Pablo and I will come with a decision that will hopefully be satisfactory to all involved. ^_^Rogue 9 wrote:Probably not, but at least justice prevails this way. Some Mod rulings about a few things
Hello lovelies!
Pablo and I have been talking about a handful of things here and there and came to some decisions about two topics in particular. The first, is a bit tricky and affects just about everyone soooo, pay attention please. ^_~
INTERDICTORS
Alright, every navy and pirate force needs interdictors to be effective, and Pablo and I had a chat about various things. In the end, we came up with a system that is fairly clumsy, but still effective.
1. Interdictors can be used in one of two modes. These modes will be talked about seperately.
Mode 1: "Anti-Ship" In this mode, an interdictor creates a net-like field over an area of space. This net-life field is akin to a chain net, the individual links are coarse and tough, allowing this mode to prevent ANY ship from utilizing FTL technology. This mode is also capable of disrupting some FTL missiles (missiles that disappear fully into hyperspace for instance are more readily affected than realspace missiles such as kincaid/warp missiles). In essence, Kincaid Torpedos and Warp missiles are not as readily affected by this mode and will continue for the most part to their targets. Hypercomm jamming, will have an effect on real space missiles such as Kincaid torpedos and Warp Missiles.
Mode 2: "Anti-Missile" in this mode, and interdictor creates a net-like field over an area of space. The net-like field is akin to a fine fishing net, the individual links are fine and weak, allowing this mode to prevent ANY FTL ordnance from working. ANY FTL missile without exception is hosed in this interdictor field. However, due to the fine links and overall weakness of the field, this mode will NOT affect a ship's ability to utilize FTL drives.
Yes, its messy and clunky but it works. If you want to have the best of both worlds, use two interdictors. ^_~
Mod Ruling: Approved by Pablo and Marcao
~~~~
STAR KINGDOM OF MANTICORE MISSILES
The missiles of the SKM are patently ridiculous as they are described for the following reasons.
1. Each missile is an FTL missile capable of 1-3c
2. Each missile generates a wedge on top and bottom that supposedly is nearly invulnerable to fire.
3. Each missile generates side-walls
4. Each missiles has a weakness analyszer thingiemajig
Pablo and I were talking about all of this, and we came to the following conclusions.
1. SKM missiles will be readily preventable by Interdictors in MODE 1 -and- MODE 2
2. SKM missiles will be slower than average in sublight speeds.
3. SKM missiles will possess a sub-standard warhead due to ALL the stuff that the SKM crams into them.
4. SKM missiles will stick out in EM sensors, your impeller wedges will be readily apparent even in heavy jamming in any half-way decent grav sensor.
5. SKM missiles are large enough and obvious enough to be tracked by light anti-ship cannons on top of point defense cannons.
The ruling is harsh, but the missiles are insane as they are now. If you change your missiles significantly, Pablo and I will give it another look and reconsider.
Furthermore, we are to believe that during the entire annexation of the Arkanians by the SKM, the total losses of the SKM forces were a single man, which was killed by friendly fire? That is hillarious. Don't expect the world to be of much use to you. If anything, it may even be a hindrance. *shrugs*
Here are the changes I'm proposing:
No FTL on my missiles
No side-walls, and the impeller bands can be penetrated just as a shield of similiar size would be (i.e, rather easily)
No target analysis computers, etc.
Zero jamming equipment, except on specialized EW missiles
And trading all that, keep the warhead payload as it was before the mod change, with a slighty faster ROF on the launchers (from 17 seconds to 14 seconds). Basically, stripped down to the warhead, guidance system, and propulsion.
If I could make a suggestion. The net idea is perfect for "long range interdiction", where you have to screw around with subspace for millions of kilometers, however, it might be reasonable to say that in close range, say thousands of kilometers, the interdiction works for both. After all, at that range, the interdictors could just saturate that area with those bad space vibes that prevent FTL (no trek talk, see!).
It's a power source that turns matter into energy. It was used as warheads for the OU military. Which, BTW was in the original STGOD that this STGOD is a continuation of.
The DC bomb thing I did when I did it in the STGOD 2 was silly because it had... *thinks*... petaton yield? This is a size currently used for strategic nuclear weapons, and has about 3 times the destructive potential of the bomb dropped on Nagasaki. (destructive power is proportional to the cube root of the yield)
If he thought about what I was bringing in, and read through the last STGOD, he would know what powered all the OU's military, and figured out that letting someone in with a power core with more than a milli gram of fuel in was idiocy. There was a reason why I specified where the manufacturor
Ammonium Nitrate and Fuel oil are completely innoucous seperately. Together, they're a rather powerful explosive. Of course it was innocous. Bringing in obvious really really big explosives wouldn't have worked so well at getting past Customs. Which I told Aly I was going to be complying with.
Which is more preferable? Me actually going around bringing in stuff to blow up, or me blowing stuff up telekinetically? I don't even have to do anything for the second except show up.
(Sorry, I was off at lunch)
Which is more preferable? Me actually going around bringing in stuff to blow up, or me blowing stuff up telekinetically? I don't even have to do anything for the second except show up.
(Sorry, I was off at lunch)
Why would you do that? It's already been estblished that the UP's missles have targeting computers, hell it's something we can do in the 21st century to a degree, why not keep the computers just keep in mind that they are not 100% foolproof and that ECM warfare can spoof them if there's enough of it.No target analysis computers, etc.
What's preferable is you not killing off entire governments for free. My action was ridiculous, but no more so than yours, and I expect both will receive the same mod ruling. I think my point is made. Now either rescind your actions or be a good little assassin and stay dead.Beowulf wrote:Which is more preferable?
