I'm an Australian, so I went through highschool with a draconian uniform policy; can any of you freedom-loving Americans tell me if having no uniform, but banning particular styles (goth, homeboy, whatever) actually achieves anything? The goths are still self-obsessed narcissists, the homeboys still want to step up and start a fight, etc. So... what does removing the clothes do, except make the problems of social stratification less obvious?
This has always been my beef with uniforms (even tho my schools was a porn star uniform) - it gives the mistaken impression that all the kids are the same, and that they can be *treated* the same, which is bullshit. Im fine with uniforms if faculty can actually see the student inside the uniform.

Doesn't help much, having gone through uniforms myself, it's still rather silly to say it acheives anything. The Jocks always wore just the school shirt. The Goths wore torns version of the school jumper. The Homies wore some crap with excessively gelled hair.Stark wrote:I'm an Australian, so I went through highschool with a draconian uniform policy; can any of you freedom-loving Americans tell me if having no uniform, but banning particular styles (goth, homeboy, whatever) actually achieves anything? Though they did frown on much of what Durandal listed, wearing a cap backwards or a type of belt got you put on a list of suspected people to be in gang activity.
