We request a meeting with a representive of your government to be hosted by Asgard to discuss the Etern situation.
We can agree to such a meeting. Our ambassador there is allowed to conduct matters of buisness on our behalf.

Gladsheim Sector
Gladsheim System
Seven Days after The Fall

The Director’s ship and escort fell out of hyperspace on the edge of the Gladsheim system. A cruiser pack, plus escorts, was in attendance. It was overblown and unnecessary, but it was for appearances, and even Admiral Clay was tagging along for the ride.

“Jon and Madeline Cameron, plus friends, requesting clearance to the Ball, Gladsheim STC, over,” the Director smiled as the communication was paused to wait for a response.

“You know, I hope this ball goes better than the last one, Jon.”

“Come now Mister Blakely, you needn’t be so pessimistic,” the Director smiled wryly. “Besides, we’re almost as safe here as we would be on Corvus, maybe even more so. Now, let’s all make sure we look presentable, we’ll be getting clearance shortly.”

As though by providence, STC clearance came as the Director spoke. The Director’s personal ship moved toward the planet, while the escort remained at the edge of the system. Keying the communication system again, the Director smiled.

“Hope you don’t mind, but Admiral Clay was hoping to get in some practice with our assembled ships while we’re all partying. If nothing else, it should make for a nice light show.”

“Well, another ball, another office all to myself,” the frail man sighed dramatically as he sat at the Director’s desk, his eyes watching the monitor. “Now then, I suppose I should get to work, after all, there is so much going on. It would be a shame to miss out on any of it, or leave him with a massive workload when he gets back from his little sojourn.”

Jenkins entered in a series of commands to the terminal, and a program, labeled ‘SEMMI’ began to load. When it was done, the frail man just smiled. “I told him it was much faster. Now then, where was I?” Several windows popped up as the current file was loaded. Messages from across the galaxy, including several marked ‘Most Urgent’. Opening them with an arched eyebrow, he read the first one and shook his head. “Why is it that the Norak Continuum always tries to declare war with me? I haven’t even established anything more than first contact with them. Oh well, time to run some more simulations, I suppose.”

Veithan Space
Veitha System, Veitha III
Government Palace

The president sighed.

He had planned extensively for his participating in the Gladsheim Grand Ball but it seemed as if the fates, would not allow him the political climate he had desired. The Hudson bombing had been a curve ball unanticipated by the Black Tower, and in turn had set a great deal of known space in its ear. Several members of the government had approached him with requests for him to cancel his attendance to the Ball, but he had outright refused. He was committed now, and canceling now would only offer insult to the Gladsheim irregardless of circumstances. No, the Accord would attend the Ball and perhaps there it would decide where it stood in the conflict that seemed too many to be destined to occur.

He walked out of his room, followed by the four Veithans that constituted his honor guard. While he was dressed predominantly in black, his escorts were dressed nearly completely in white. The two couples were primes, defending him from all threats psionic or otherwise. As he moved, his mind extended out amplified by its union with his guard and exchanged thoughts with a multitude of personnel.

~I am on my way to my ship.~

~Confirmed Mr. President. Your escort is in station and awaiting your arrival.~

~Good.~

His mind brushed against the mind of his director of intelligence before thoughts were exchanged.

~You are going to have your work cut out for you in my absence Jon.~

~I will make do Mr. President. I will make sure the paper work does not stack too much in your absence.~

The president chuckled softly, the sound carried from his mind to the director’s before he broke aside the contact with his thanks. He moved quietly down the halls of the governmental palace, his eyes sliding from right to left occasionally. Everywhere he glanced, he saw activity of one kind or another. The conflict that they had anticipated had arrived at last, and all that was left was to choose. He was thankful that the Veithan people did not stand alone. The Accord bestowed great strength but it also took its toll. The Accord would have to come to a decision as one. That was part of the reason why he was leaving the home world. He could only do so much here, he wanted to look into the eyes of the Empress and the Director, when they came to their choice.

He took a deep breath and held it for several precious seconds. All the pieces were coming into place. It took him four minutes to make it to the shuttle bay, and another eight minutes for the presidential shuttle to make it within his transport. Once inside, the VDS Beautiful Dreamer left the orbit of Veitha III and alongside her escorts, vanished into hyperspace.

Gladsheim Space

Seven days after the Hudson incident

The Task Force emerged.

The VDS Beautiful Dreamer and her escorts sliding into real space from the confines of hyperspace. The ships hesitated for only a millisecond, a channel opened as the vessels continued on their approach towards their final destination. “This is the VDS Beautiful Dreamer and escorts, carrying President Duvolle and escorts to the Imperial Ball. Our vector and velocity is as follows.” The Veithans waited for confirmation before closing the channel, the small task force left behind as the Beautiful Dreamer alone moved deeper in system towards the primary gas giant.

A shuttle was launched after the Veithan presidential ship had reached its holding spot. The Shuttle accelerating gracefully towards the massive Gladsheim construct; moments later, the Veithan president, his escort, and the four honor guard members were exiting the shuttle. The Veithan president and the female next to him made a striking couple, the four white clad honor guards which accompanied them seeming like statues, their faces hinting at no emotion as they moved.

Gladsheim Prime, Orbital One
Seven days after the Hudson incident

Consensus observed the Veithans enter the system. It was relieved and a honorary escort of two superdreadnoughts was dispatched to escort the shuttle safely to the docking ports of the restricted sections of Orbital One.

As the President and his entourage left the shuttle, they were welcomed by a Gladsheim woman, taller than anyone of them and just as strikingly beautiful with her red hair. Behind her a group of Imperial Black Guards formed a honor guard.
"Welcome to Gladsheim, President," her soprano voice rang out. "It is a pleasure. If you are ready, we can begin the descent to the site of the Grand Ball."
Smiling warmly, he stepped forward. "It is a pleasure for me, as well. And I think we are as ready as we can ever get."
"Follow me then, please."
A short walk across the reception area, they embarked a Gladsheim shuttle. It undocked and started its decent towards the atmosphere, passing through dense mine fields and orbital traffic, they soon dived into it. And it was a long journey, even at the tremendous speeds of the shuttle. Outside, if one looked closely enough, one could make out an escort of the Atmospheric navy circling around the shuttle.
"Normally, we would have 'casted, of course, Mr. President," she smiled. "But I'm afraid the system would not let, sorry, foreigners use it. But I hope you'll enjoy the travel..."

Minutes later, the shuttle slowed down. The atmosphere was a very dark orange and brown, and some majestic vortex that possibly could have swallowed whole moons in it swirled far away to the left.

And then Imperial Plaza emerged from the vastness. Glittering with million of lights like a diamond, the vast structure was truly a piece of art. Large atmospheric ships circled around it.
The shuttle set course for a large spire, emerging out of the top of the city's midpoint, clearly larger than the other structures around it.
They docked, and were led outside.
"Welcome on Imperial Plaza, Your Grace," the Gladsheim said. "I hope you will enjoy it. And be assured, you will not fall through the floor."
Puzzled what it meant, the President and his group stepped out of the short corridor. They were led to a lift and it brought them up, several hundred meters, it seemed.
When they stepped out onto a small dais, he heard one or two of his honor guard to gasp.
It was a large hall, large enough to park a small warship into it. It was made of a strange material, almost translucent, like very thin alabaster, in some spots even completely see-through. It seemed to shine from within, amplifying the orange colors from the outside. Tall colums formed a circle in its midst, all shining with a warm, sun-like light. Small oases of greenery were randomly placed through out the hall, groups of tables to sit down, buffets. The air was full of pleasant odours and a ethereal music floated through it.

And it was full of people. He guessed that there were at least two thousand people in it.
As soon as they entered, a small group of people walked up to them.
A tall Gladsheim, clad in full gala uniform, hit a ceremonial staff heavily on the ground and sent a almost subsonic boom through the vast structure. The whole hall fell silent.
"Your Imperial Highness, I present you the President of the Veithan Empire, Izea Duvolle, and consorts."
The Empress stepped forward, her son and consort by her side. "It is an honour to have you with us." Extending her hand and shaking the President's. She nodded to her son. "You have of course already met my son, Jorm. And possibly heard about his Crown Consort, Dachlan. I am sorry for stealing one of your citizens. But it seemed to be unavoidable," she chuckled. "Now, we will only have to wait for our Ravenlock friends to fully begin." She led him deeper into the hall.

<< All evidence has been turned over to 3rd parties, including your own government. A major member of our High Command, one of the top five officers in the Hajr, has been turned to the Veithans for complete debriefing. Time wastes, and the White Sun monsters continue to take advantage of this staying of our hand.

We have no doubt that the Confederation is using this opportunity to volster their defenses. We will allow the Veithans to complete their tests and interrogations. After that, no more time will be wasted.>>

The Veithan ships came to rest near their Ravenlock counter part, shuttles prepared to be launched with the blessing of the White Sun.

The fleet had been in high alert since the Hudson incident and when the Ousters accused the Confederation of being the promoters of the terrorist attack, it went on war mode. Home space was a hotbed of ship activity, but the Veithan and Ravenlock arrivals had been expected. If there was any hope of stopping the war from starting, it came with both ships.

"Consortium Civilian transport Omega-Five-Seven-Victor-Niner, this is Home Space Control. You have full clearance to land on the capital spaceport. Approach following the adjunct vector and make it as quickly as you want. We know that are running out of time. Please, remember that Home's atmosphere is unbreathable for human physiology."

In the spaceport awaited Verilon and the other eleven Councilors, awaiting the arrival of the Outsiders that were now the last hope of stopping a premature war with the Ousters.

Gladsheim Prime, Imperial Plaza, Grand Ball

While chatting with the Veithan president, a second com thread fought for her attention.
<<Your Highness, the Ravenlock have just arrived and will be here in short order. They also have brought a small task force with them and requested a joint maneuvre while they are here...>>
<<Why not? Liv Tjoerhom would certainly love to tka e part in it. Tell them we agree and will send a task force of equal size. Don't you agree, Admiral Farshaw?>>
The Admiral, currently dancing away with one of her assistants, agreed. <<Yes, no doubt a good idea. We can test our new fighter designs in combat situation.>>
She smiled, and in the mean time spoke with the President of the Veitha. "The Ravenlock should arrive soon. Then we are complete and the ball can properly begin."

***

Two Superdreadnoughts swallowed out to escort the Ravenlock ship to Orbital One, and the Ravenlock were brought down to Imperial Plaza as fast as possible.
As they entered the great hall, their faces seemed to be as overwhelmed as their Veithan counterparts. Surely, Gladsheim architects knew how to build impressively.
"Director Cameron," the Empress approached him after the Director was officially announced just as the Veithan has been. "I hope it has been a relaxing trip so far. I certainly hope you will enjoy our Great Ball."
And with that, the Great Ball was officially in full swing.

***

Meanwhile, a small task force swallowed out to the waiting Ravenlock ships.
"This is Admiral Tjoerhom of the Imperial Gladsheim Navy. I have been told you were looking forward to a little war gaming. Anything particular in mind?" She smiled a wolfish grin. "We are ready."

Gladsheim Prime
Orbital One
Seven days after Hudson Incident

The Gladsheim woman which greeted the President and his consort was impossible to miss, the President was a mere four inches past six feet, the woman at his side was one inch past six feet, and the four white clad honor guards oscillated from two to seven inches past six feet. The Gladsheim woman was easily the tallest person in the area, her red hair caught and appreciated for a moment before her lips were parting and her words shared. There was no hesitation in a response, the President himself choosing to do so.
“I am glad to be here and the pleasure is mine as well, I have always wanted to visit but circumstances never allowed me to do so until now.” He paused for a moment, thoughts exchanged with his female companion before he nodded. “We are ready to proceed.” The Veithans followed their escorts, their senses taking in all the sights and sounds which the construct offered them. Gladsheim architecture was a great deal different from Veithan methods and preferences, but there was no doubt that they liked to build them big. The President felt no shame in knowing than in the construction in this scale, it was unlikely that the Empire was a match for the Gladsheim.

The shuttle trip was a quiet one, the Veithan delegates exchanging their thoughts and occasionally brining up a question regarding architecture, science and material science. These questions were as a whole answered politely without going too deeply into the details. The Gladsheim’s words about ‘casting met with a dismissive smile. “It is not a problem, this is quite adequate.” He would have lied if he was not more than a bit curious about what the so called “casting” method entailed. Intelligence on the Gladsheim had always been a tricky proposition for a multitude of reasons. He was not bothered by the fact that secrets existed between the Gladsheim and the Empire, because he himself was aware of secrets the Empire held from them. When it was due time, the barriers that existed between their nations would naturally allow for greater disclosures. The Accord did not even have a year of existence yet. All in good time…

The shuttle slowed, and the Veithans within the shuttle glanced upwards, looking for the external feeds in order to see what laid immediately before them. The Imperial Plaza hung like a glittering jewel in the atmosphere of the Gas Giant, thoughts of appreciation, surprise and admiration exchanged between the Veithan delegates. He had seen pictures of this from the Veithan ambassador, Mr. Munei had been quite enthusiastic in that regard. The Veithans watched closely as the shuttle approached, the nuances of the Gladsheim structure noted and commented upon telepathically. The Plaza dwarfed the largest Veithan construct by a significant margin. The President smiled and settled back a bit more comfortably as he awaited their arrival into the structure before them.

The Veithan delegation followed as they were led out of the shuttle, his head turning to glance towards his escort. “Thank you. It is a bit more…impressive than I had expected. The data I had received upon it grant it little justice.” The final words of the woman were met with surprise, thoughts exchanged between the Veithans as to what she meant. The delegation followed irregardless, only when they had arrived at the Dais room could the Gladsheim’s words finally be understood. The gasp of one of his honor guard was heard, with the soft feminine chuckle of another. A flurry of mental activity ensued, silence descending upon the Delegation as the President moved over the translucent material without any visible hesitation and was followed by the other members of the Delegation.

The sheer size of the hall was difficult to comprehend, the number of people within surprising him. He had expected something a bit more private but imagined that this was after all and Imperial Ball, and perhaps far more so than a simple meeting of the Accord in difficult times. The Veithans maneuvered carefully deeper into the hall, the approach of a small group of people recognized almost immediately. The sound of something hitting the ground, resonated through out the hall and the Veithans stopped as did everyone else it seemed. The president caught sight of the Empress and understood, a second later introductions were being made.

The usage of his given name caught him by surprise, but he did not comment upon it. He was simply used to being called Mr. President within the Empire, there were only a handful of people that were bold enough and familiar enough with his given name to use it with any form of regularity within the Empire. He bowed his head as he was introduced to the Empress as politeness dictated, her approach with the crown prince and Dachlan noted before the Empress offered her hand and he naturally took it.

”The honor is mine Empress.” His eyes slid towards her son and nodded, a small smile appearing on his lips at the mention of Dachlan.

”Please Empress, you have done nothing of the sort. I have a feeling that Dachlan would rather be nowhere else.” His eyes watched Dachlan for a moment as he spoke, he was a Veithan citizen but he was free to do what he wished and go where his heart led him.

”I would like to introduce my wife, Amel Duvolle.” The Veithan woman at the president’s side nodded her head, a full three inches shorter than her famous husband, she was an impressive figure nonetheless. Her hair adorned with a subtle and tasteful array of jewelry, which matched and blended beautifully with the adornments around her throat and wrists. “As well as our escorts.” The four white clad Veithans, two men and two women nodded their heads and remained silent. They were an honor guard, each feeling that their names were of no importance when compared to such mighty company.

As the Empress spoke of the Ravenlock the President nodded and followed as they were led deeper within the Hall.

Six days after the Hudson Incident

The Veithan escorts did as asked, settling to wait in the specified orbit which White Sun Control had specified. Their task had been to guarantee the arrival of the Veithan Diplomatic ship to the system, not to the defend it while inside. The likelihood that the White Sun would seek to harm Veithan citizens was extremely low, with the Ousters knocking at their door they did not need the Empire as a threat. Furthermore, a non-aggression pact had been drafted between their nations shortly before the Hudson incident.

The VDS Yulai settled on its orbit and launched a pair of shuttles to the world below. They were aware of the conditions in the planet below, and had prepared for that task. The Ambassador had been quite thorough with such details when she had sent her reports. The Shuttle’s arrived, and the Veithan Primes along with their escort exited the shuttle with their environment suits. Once they reached a sealed environment that was compatible with the Veithan needs, they would shed the suits and prepare to work. There were no less than eight primes in the Veithan delegation, all specialists in their field. The Empire had not bothered to send anything but their best. The escort for these eight was relatively small, although each member seemed to exude an air of confidence and ability.

The Veithans were escorted by a contingent of White Sun representatives and guards towards their final destination. It would no be long now before the scans could take place, and after that it would only be a matter of hours before a detailed findings report was created.

The man killed, was an information dealer, he hadent even reviewed the information there was no 'reason' to assassinate him, and if we wanted him dead, he never would have made it off varathrax.

WHat I see is a lot of deductive reasoning. You started with a concluion, then attempted to find evidence for it

You ignore ballistics as well. The weapon used was a focused energy blaster. It is designed to burn a nice hole through the chest that goes all the way through.

In order to shoot the man in hte chest like that, either the assassin would ave had to be around 6 ft tall, or he would have had to shoot the man at an upward angle. Either that, or hold a gun like that around face level if one of ours. Tht mkes no sense what so ever.

We have recieved the crime scene photos from the press, and have recieved the autopsy report from a...third party, both of them show that he was hit at chest elvel, and the angle was roughtly 90 degrees to the shooterr. meaning someone taller than one of us is your shooter.

((If you can get someones personnele file, we can get your autopsy reprts, reciprocity my friend)

Varathrax
Lower Orbit

The first baeloaren shuttle, filled with the first group of passangers, flew through the atmosphere to the Capital City's landing platforms.
Onboard were 50 Baeloarens, 35 of them workers, plus a small portion of the ship's cargo. The next shuttle would be leaving soon, but these were the first. On the ground, there were already ground transports ready to haul the supplies and people to the office building the baeloarens had leased. While it wasn’t visible, or truly important, all the equipment waiting for them and the building they had purchased where property of the Skallex Corporation.

The transport landed quietly on the landing pad, and the fifty passengers disembarked and proceeded into the customs building for scanning.

Alyrium Denryle wrote: The conclusion you would probably reach is that he is an assassin. However, if we were going to assassinate someone, do you think we would use someone who even officially existed? Ithink not. ANd... why the frell would we use one of our own guns?

"Firstly, you're an idiot. That's not his chest, that's his Stomach. Look at the guards. Those things about your chest height, those are Stomachs on humans, sometimes refered to as torsoes or trunks too.

"Secondly, yes we started at a conclusion. He was murdered. THen we worked out from that, who murdered him? Well, we found your dead agent. Then we found his transmitter, and we matched up the weapon manufacturer to one that could be used by him with ease. And we also found that he was the only one who could have escaped without notice! Circumstantial evidence all, yes. But, it's a whole freighter load of it. The fact that you have a damn good reason to kill him, well, that didn't even enter into it after we figured out that he was one of your agents, who by the way hadn't gone through customs.

"Finally, I'm going to tell you now. We make it a policy, as does almost every other nation in the galaxy, never to let the press into a 'hot' crime scene. And also never to let the corpses involved in a criminal investigation out of our hands. So, these third parties who you're getting the pictures from, sue them because they are liars.

"Now, you have two choices, choose now. You can go out that door, and turn left. Then I'll accompany you to a press room where you'll give a statement taking full responsibilty on behalf of your government for the assassinations. Then we'll forgive you, but we will not forget and there will be hundreds of minors sanctions put on your government. Or, you can turn right. Then these guards will escort you back to your shuttle, and you'll head back to your homeworld. If you do that... well, then it might get a bit uglier than it is."

It was an almost quiet press release. All it did was announce who recieved the massive Earth 'rebuilding' contracts. There were companies from all over, Monacoran, Asgard, Krytosian, even a Nashtari one. The only odd thing about it, and only one editorialist pointed this out, and even then he said it was only as a 'funny how things work' piece, was that all of the Baelorean bids had been accepted. Their companies would recieve almost as much money as every other nation, combined. Work would begin in a couple weeks, and matters were to be co-ordinated between every company at the meetings to come.

Ah, damn language
The fact that you have a damn good reason to kill him, well, that didn't even enter into it after we figured out that he was one of your agents, who by the way hadn't gone through customs.
wHat reason is that? He knew nothing. If we wanted him dead, he would be serving his death sentence in our forests right now, probably being chewed on by one superpredator or the other. We reached a plea aggreement, he was sentenced to banishment. Return on pain of death.

I will admit, the corpse you found was one of our agents, and we will admit that much. It is possible he was acting on his own. Seeing as sanctions against our government were in place and Talys was murdered during that time. When he couldnt have recieved orders, and no, we do not have shipboard cloaking technology. You can even have the veithans scan our entire government if you wish, but we had nothing to do with that mans murder.

I will meet you half way, and I will make a statement to the press to that effect. But your attempts at ullying me with thinly veiled threats of war do not endeer you to me.

besides, I am a rank and file diplomat, even if we did assassinate him, I dont have the security cearance to know. ANd as such cannot make that particular statement for my government.

"I am not authorized to make such a statement, this isnt my choice to make. Talk to our president. Oh, wait, he is at his best friends funeral right now, if you have missed the press reports, unknown parties just bombed our senate.

I will tell you right now, that your thinly veiled threats, wont work. I know you need an outside threat in order to keep your populace in line, but this has gone far enough. You can talk to my government if you want that statement made, but I am not authorized to make it.

Good day"

When he got back on to his ship, the ambassador sent a transmission to his government a neural interface used to extract his memories of the conversation... an hour later, this press release was given.

For Immediate Release
The Associated Press.

The Monocoran Government, using thinly veiled threats of war, attempted to force the Draconis Republic to either take responsibility for an assassination that took place in the New York Archology earlier this month.

The only evidence offered was a blaster pistol of Varathraxian make, and the body of a Varathraxian who had, admittedly, been an agent of the Draconis Republic, but was on a fact gathering mission regarding the state of Monocora after The Rape of Terra. He was armed only with tooth and claw

Following is a transcript of the parts of thee meeting in question, taken using a computerized neural interface which extracts memories from the user.

<Transcropt of the last few posts by straha and Myself>

"The monocorans are like a prosecutor with a weak case. Instead of going to trial and showing how flimsy their evidence really is, they attempt to bully the defendant into a plea agreement. This is not acceptable behavior for a government. They cannot link that agent to the crime scene, there is no credible motive, and they cannot prove the weapon was his, or used by him, simply that it was designed for his species, but could be used by anyone an puchesed practically anywhere" Says Professor of Law Krestar Leonis of the Univerisity of North Cliff College of Law.

"This is an outrage! They cannot prove their case! They will not even release the autopsy reports to us so that we may examine the supposed evidence against us. This is a travesty!" says Senator Abenador of the Draconis Republic

Monocoran officials refused to return our calls.

An interlocutor gave a simple statement.

"They cover the truth up, the agent was not cleared with customs. If he was really on a 'fact-finding mission' he would have been cleared. Further more given the circumstances of the crime the agent fits the bill. Currently Monacora is considering various legal, and international actions or sanctions. A full release of all data on hand will be given when Monacora decides to perform such an act."
