I hear there were two seperate incidents. One of them was an explosion and Fox was not clear what the second incident was.

If by "coroded batteries" you mean "a flashlight packed with C4", then yes.

Car batteries can hold a lot of juice. Short one of those out and you'll know about it. Depends on what torch this was and what type of power cell it had.

I doubt it was fishy.

how many people carry flashlights with batteries the size of car batteries to an airport with them though? most flashlights don't need batteries that big.

It might well have been a security officer. They do love their oversized maglites.

Six D cells can hold quite a bit of energy in them (and the bigger Maglites can carry that many).

Wouldn't need to be that big at all. NiCad and lithium batteries can put out huge currents if they're shorted out, enough to overheat and explode them.

I've seen some high-capacity NiMH D cells hold up to 11 Ah. Assuming 1.2V and six of them, that is 285 kJ of energy potential.

Great, another "terrorist" attack. Let's see how this benefits Bush.

You know what -- forget what I just said; I withdraw it. I'm not in the mood to get into a political debate right now. Sorry. :?

The second incident was apparently a very stupid man running up a down escalator and in the process breaching a security perimeter.

Obviously, flashlights will now have to be banned from all U.S. airports, bus stations, and train terminals.

Aren't flashlights part of the kit government want in your house, just in case the city suffers a terrorist attack?
