We need a definition to make a power defunct. I.E. You go away from the board a week, don't tell anyone about it, and leave no excuse over why you are absent. With a definite requirement on what it takes not to be considered Defunct anymore.

May I ask what gave you that idea? IT seems pretty out-of-the-ass, as the Ousters, while expansionistic, have proven to be honorable fighters against the Machines as well as generous to the people of Earth following the Rape of Terra. Hell, we've done more for peace in Known Space than the UP has. From what we know the Ousters ultimate goal is conquest of the galaxy and all its peoples,
Seriously, guys. The rhetoric I've been seeing in-game is all about the evil expansionism of the Ousters. Even saying that is metagaming. The Ousters are no more militant and evil than anyone else. They participated in several key campaigns and received many worlds as spoils of war. Their expansiveness is a direct result of their participation in taking on nations that were universally maligned, like the Arcanists and the many Laz-nations.
This new development is a tragedy on a galactic scale. The Ousters were attacked in their own territory by the largest terrorist attack in history. A perpetrator has been identified beyond a reasonable doubt. They are now attacking the responsible government - think US invading Afghanistan after 9/11.
This is all that anyone knows in-game. This is how you should be reacting.
OOC, we know that Thirdfain is a sneaky, manipulative, militant bastard. He likely planted this bomb himself and is using this to declare war and take over the galaxy. BUT WE DON'T KNOW ANY OF THIS, UNLESS HE TOLD YOU. AND HE DIDN'T. Treating the Ousters as a threat to the universe is blatant metagaming. The only way that this attitude would be slightly acceptable is if you are isolationist and afraid of anyone that might come near you. These are people like Murazor and speaker-to-trolls. And even you guys should be only wary, not outright militant. Do this right, people. Im tired of seeing "clear and present danger" rhetoric when the danger is neither clear nor present.

I'll be honest. My record isn't great (Hell, Hudson and Jormungandr never did anything to me.) That doesn't change the facts that I've taken a lot of effort to keep my nose clean.
I mean, c'mon! "OMG, I read their OOB and it says Ousters EVIL! let's fellate the UP and go kick some ASS yeah TEAM AMERICA WORLD POLICE WOOT!"
...
I need help.

Seeing as how I'm working on my next naval Mega-Post (up to page three right now) I'd just like to say that Monacora is being increibly sympathetic to the Ousters right now. I think we're the only ones who have had anything like this done recently to us, and our people remember that. So, basically, the 'Ouster Approval Rating' is through the roof, and the UPA is currently seen as trying to stop the justice train from running over one of their friends, despite the fact that their friend is an evil genocidal mass murderer on a scale not seen since the Rape of Terra.

And another question.
I'm assuming that because B5 style Hyperspace travel (we've had this since STGOD I) is the cheapest for the freighters to use, that most freighters use it and enter via gates nearby systems. Or would I again be sadly mistaken?

Mine don't. While we can assume that weber-verse and B5 hyperspace are one in the same (or at least a band of), my frieght moves independent of jump gates and the like.Straha wrote:And another question.

My military mostly uses B5 hyperspace, though, with our tech level it is possible to miniaturize the jump engines

If they ACTUALLY did this, I dont think the alliance will come to their defense... as they would be the aggressors.

At this point it's not really expensive to stick a warp drive on the back of a cargo ship. Plus it gives considerable agility as to where they want to travel. Unless I miss my guess that would also mean most cargo ships are slow as hell when doing intrastellar drop-offs. No, I think its safe to say cargo ships will have some sort of FTL drive, though not necessarily the top of the line mind you.Straha wrote:And another question.

there is no 'credible' evidence. We dont know, but frankly, the prisoners died.. conveniently in interrogation, and if they died in interrogation, their information is suspect. SOmeone being tortured will say whatever their torturers want in order to make the pain stop.

but if you have an independant jumppoint generator, one can handily avoid that problem.

Well, personally I'm using Honor-verse style hyperspace. I'm willing to call it B5 hyperspace for convinience but I don't use jump gates or beacons.Marcao wrote:remmber that B5 style hyperspace requires an extensive network of "beacons" in hyperspace. Only the greater races, such as the Shadows and The Vorlons could move around extensively in Hyperspace without such a network in place.
And of course whereas they avoid grav anomolies I ridethem.

what the hell are you talking about? Earth ships have independent jump point generators, and they needed the system. Take the incident with the Cortez, for instance. The ship, an Earth Explorer type was capable of opening her own jump points into space. But the second that some of her instrumentation was damaged and she lost the beacon's signal she drifted too deep into hyperspace and had to be rescued by star furies.Alyrium Denryle wrote:but if you have an independant jumppoint generator, one can handily avoid that problem.

It's cool. I am just saying that the B5 system, has advantages and disadvantages is all. ^_^Alyrium Denryle wrote:Oh, that's right. shit, been a long time since I have seen it...Marcao wrote:what the hell are you talking about? though, at our leel f tech(which surpasses that of vorlons roughly) we should be able to at least partially overcome the need for becons. At least be able to escape by opening an independant jumppoint

We've had over a hundred years of partying around Hyperspace, I think we've got most of it mapped. Also remember that aside from having engines on the transport you need absolutley jack squat to use this. That's why I'd think almost every transport would use it, because of power savings, and because of the space saved by not having Warp Cores and what not on-board.Marcao wrote:remmber that B5 style hyperspace requires an extensive network of "beacons" in hyperspace. indeed, most of hyperspace may well indeed be mapped. However, if these beacons exist, it is possible that a belligerent nation could go in and start destroying them. Since I imagine, each individual nation that uses B5 hyperspace has its own network, that could prove to very detrimental. *shugs* something to consider, and the advantages that it entails are significant. Remember however, that B5 hyperspace requires a hefty recharge rate between jumps. Something to consider.Straha wrote:We've had over a hundred years of partying around Hyperspace, I think we've got most of it mapped. There is a difference... sort of. Having someone "name their co-conspirators" and then tormenting them when you dont get the answer you want, is one thing...Straha wrote:Wait... then why did you torture the pirates? Torturing them for the location of their hidden rebel base is another. And of course, we checked it out...and independantly verified the info etc etc etc.
