In the real world, the Pope is an influential figure, and he's leveraging that influence to attempt to subvert the secular law in place in a sovereign state. Don't pretend that the Pope is just "voicing his opinion" for the shit of it. He's been actively campaigning to try and get gay marriage laws on the books in other countries stricken.

The Pope isn't alone in attempting to dictate to sitting governments. He's joined, in fact, by plenty of other religious interest groups throughout the world.

Iceberg is totally correct in what he said: this is pretty standard spiel, and getting upset over it is kind of ridiculous, becuase nobody should have raised any eyebrows over this in the first place.

Concern over this is perfectly necessary, it's just that this should surprise nobody, and threads like this serve no real purpose other than bandwagoning. It's already ESTABLISHED that people on this board dislike religion, especially organized religion, in particular the Catholic Church; bringing it up repeatedly serves no real purpose other than reinforcing "We really hate them Papist motherfuckers."

A good rule of thumb is this: Before you hit the "send" button, ask yourself, Is this post really necessary? Does this post either materially contribute to the progress of the thread (which me-too posts do not) or is it funny (which me-too posts almost never are)?
