The official Raycav banning poll

(sigh) the question is rolling around the boards, and people are talking about it, so I might as well make a poll.

It is not without some sadness that I create this poll; some foolish optimist in me hopes that he can resolve his issues. However, his abusive behaviour toward other members has led to numerous calls for a ban, and when that happens, a poll is in order.

So, what say you?

EDIT: Note that some of his bizarre rants have been moved into the Hall of Shame.

How about starting to use a scaled system?

He isn't totally banned from comming here and the increased rates ought to encourage him, but if he does get bad it means each "vacation" is longer untill he realistically won't be back if he won't change.

I say we sleep on it. I think we're all a bit too involved right now to make a clear decision, and Shep's got things under control for the next little while. I don't know what to do about this yet, but it's a rather serious situation.

This is twice now he's made strings of posts, which on their own would warrant banning in man cases. I don't see why he should get a third chance when clearly he's completely unpredictable and likely not in control of himself. I'm fed up with him and want him gone. Anyway since his insane ravings seem limited to this board, banning would do him good, more so then making a call to a mental health hotline in his area, which is the best that could be done to get him actual help.

--I think if anyone knows him in real life we have ample evidence to get somebody to force him to get help. To do otherwise is both dangerous for others and selfish in my opinion...

I'm not sure what to do. On the one hand, I don't think that the denizens of this board should have to put up with him if he does something harmful to himself. He seems to have made us his personal therapy group. This board is for entertainment and debate, not for attention-grabbing. It just ruins it for everyone.

On the other hand, he's an ASVSer, and for me, one of the group, if you take my meaning. I'd really like to see him get the help he needs, because he can be a pretty cool person some of the time. I'd be in support of some sort of warning or "three strike" system.

--Unless someone has evidence otherwise I don't think punishment by this board or suggestions to get help will do any good. The reason is that I think he has major issues that need resolved and he is just self destructing (I bet he likes this board quite a bit, but got enraged because it failed to resolve his real life issues or agrivated them somehow).
--It may be in the end we cannot help him and need to ban him, but the attempt should be made.

Personally, I believe that he lashes out but secretly seeks approval, like many young men his age. The problem is that he doesn't seem to know how to go about getting approval, so he simply tried to make himself the centre of attention instead.

-Perhaps you are right. However, there are other ways to get attention without getting banned and he seems to be trying to get banned (from what I can tell). If you are right and we ban him then all is well, however, if I am right and we ban him and don't look into trying to help him then all is not well. I simply don't think it is not worth while to look into getting him help in real life if possible.

I hope he'll be all right, but he was a pox on the board in his current state, and Shep was right; he would go apeshit when he saw us having pity on him, thus starting another round of flaming and screaming and forcing me to ban him anyway.

Darth Wong: For whatever reason, I find myself unable to cast a vote in the poll at the beginning of this thread. Therefore I will make it known here that I STRONGLY RECOMMEND RAYCAV BE BANNED FOR GOOD. I have nothing against RayCav as a person, and he has always been civil to me in our correspondence. However, I have a personal reason for wanting him banned, which you should PM me about if you wish to know. Thank you in advance for complying with my recommendation.
