Fucking stupid "news" on CNN

Post by Darth Wong »

I hate it when news networks report the fucking obvious as if it's actually "news". Just now, CNN Headline News reported that children who get extra exercise tend to lose weight compared to children who don't.

Yes, you read that right. They just reported one of the most OBVIOUS FUCKING FACTS IN THE UNIVERSE on CNN Headline News.

I really think TV journalism has gone down the shitter ever since the 24/7 news network was created.

A friend of mine suggested that if, when a research project is done, the findings of that project are something that should be completely obvious to a slightly retarded eight-year-old, the researching organization should be legally required to refund their entire budget to the taxpayers/shareholders.

I am really really really sick and freaking tired of hearing about the damn Laci Peterson case. Yes, it was bad, but it happens every damn day. Her case is no more special than the thousands of other murders committed around the world all the time. Terrible things, but it doesn't apply to me or anyone elses not directly related to the case's daily livs in any form or fashion. Get on to some *real* news that has an effect on the world we live in!

I think my favorite example of this was a headline - it was either on one of the news channels, or in a newspaper, I don't recall - that boldly stated "Study discovers that scholarships reduce the cost of college education for students."

No kidding.

I'm just waiting for a headline that goes:

I'm sick of Exaggerated stories, for example, Fox-5 News in DC is notorious for flashy exaggerated stories about mundane stuff. One such report was about DANGEROUS FIREPLACE DOORS THAT ARE TOO HOT... OVIOUSLY Fox 5 they are.. fire burns behind them. They found this family who's 2 year old burned his hand on the door. Fox 5 reporter went and asked the mother, "What happened next," and the narrator said "he got burned on his hand, the heat seared his skin, and caused the palm to turn red. The boy screamed from the pain as it went up his arm and hurt him all this while playing the stock DUM-DUM cue and while the fire superimposition went over the boy's hand.

LIKE OVIOUSLY, WHEN SOMEONE BURNS HIS HAND... IT HURTS K.,.

Then there are stories that are one time events that wouldnt garner attention no where else but on the news. One example is the ceiling fell at the farragut north station and no one was hurt. The ceiling section wasn't even above 4 feet and they droned on about it for days.

oh and i forgot to tell you once in 1998 when i was a teen. There was this story on Headline News about this teen who treatened Bill Clinton. It was like this... " Teen was visited by the secret service after he wrote on the White House E-mail "KILL BILL" ( a prophetic term for the movie title) the secret service showed up at the door"

OOH Big News...

I'm sure there are people out there who think it's genes, pills, and carbos that cause weight loss.

Some high profile case that has been going on here in the US for the last 6 months that has been plastering the newswaves. Neither the defendant or prosecutors are celebrities, nor does it have any sort of national impact, but CNN, FNC, and MSNBC keep it on the air.

Heck, I just saw a thing on CNN Headline News on where they were doing a story on the people waiting to get into the courtroom!

I have no idea how they just choose one of these mundane cases (out of many) to present as "news" on the national level. They even made a damn TV movie out of this a few months ago, even with the case still going on.

No, the Congressman's intern/murdered lover wasn't Laci Peterson. It was Chandra Levy. And right now I'm slightly horrified I know that.

Because it figures into the ethical argument about whether or not to call killing an unborn child murder, I think.
