Marauder on "Enterprise"
Is it me or are the esipodes of Enterprise getting dumber?
here's why: Enterprise needs deuterium so they visit a colony that mines it from soil like oil. Now isn't deuterium more abundant in the oceans or in the atmosphere of gas giants?
Also, a bunch of Klingons are bullying the colonist so Archer decides to teach them how to fight back. Now of course they don't kill the Klingons which would have been the simple solution. The colonists make the Klingons look like fools. Now apparently this will stop the Klingons from bullying the colonists. I don't know. What to stop the Klingons from returning and taking revenge against the colonists?
Maybe it's just me but I would have destroyed the Klingon ship in orbit. The Enterprise was suppose to be more powerful then it.

First off let me say that I like Enterprise and I too thought this episode was lame.paladin wrote:Is it me or are the esipodes of Enterprise getting dumber?

Yes they should have smoked the Klingon ship in orbit. The only other option I can see would be for the Enterprise to help the colonists like they did and then help them establish regular coms with their homeworld because I don't believe that Klingons would take being beaten by colonists.
The supposed honor obsessed version of Klingons wouldn't take a loss like that without trying to make up for it. They certainly weren't beaten bad enough by the colonists to make them never come back.
Other things wrong with the episode.
Vulcan-Fu? Okay, I realize that Spock's Vulcan neck pinch was always supposed to be a martial arts discipline but....?
Also, what was up with T'pol's all white skin-tight outfit?
The way they beat the Klingons wouldn't really work. The Klingons beemed out of the trap to leave there's no reason they couldn't have done so to keep fighting. Even loser Klingons like these aren't that stupid.

Except in the range and then even the ship's translator has dead aim.Howedar wrote:Sweet mother of God, weapons with shoulder stocks and sights!!

Actually, I think they foolishly decided not to actually shoot the Klingons so they were (mostly) missing intentionally.

Even worse, the Klingons were in a nice neat knot facing a gully or trench line with atleast half a dozen people armed with somesort of plasma like rifle at a short range. If that doesn't scream
SHOOT ME
I don't know what does.

Re: Marauder on "Enterprise"
It's already obvious that the writers don't know what deuterium is. This isn't really newsworthy.paladin wrote:Is it me or are the esipodes of Enterprise getting dumber?

WTF? Is this a sci-fi show or a children's movie? Also, a bunch of Klingons are bullying the colonist so Archer decides to teach them how to fight back. I haven't been keeping track of things. Are the Klingons and Federation at war at this time?Maybe it's just me but I would have destroyed the Klingon ship in orbit. The Enterprise was suppose to be more powerful then it.

Re: Marauder on "Enterprise"
Nope. In fact the Enterprise has helped out the Klingons on at least two ocassions and been somewhat responsible for them getting some new technology on another.Raxmei wrote: I haven't been keeping track of things. Are the Klingons and Federation at war at this time?
The thing is that the Klingons on Enterprise are more beligerant, less honorable and much more stupid and thugish than they've been previously.
It's like the took the worst elements from all the Kilingons to ever appear in Trek and that's what they use as the Klingon model.

I thought that very same thing. They were target practicing in the ARMORY!!!!!paladin wrote:Here something else I thought of. Why were they using the missle bay as a firing range? Given the nature of ST tech, I think a stray shot that hit a missle would have destroyed Enterprise. Hey, wait a minute. That's a good idea!

Actually, they are probably using training phase pistols, basically flashlights. Unless, they're weapons are vulnerable to stray flashs they're probably safe.Knife wrote:I thought that very same thing. I would like to agree with you, but I rebel at firing any sort of weapon even a training weapon in a armory. You don't go around setting off training gernades, or fire blanks in a armory in the modern day military why would you do it in the very room that the high and mighty torpedo's are fired from in the NX class?neoolong wrote:Actually, they are probably using training phase pistols, basically flashlights. True, but I just reckon it's too much money to build a new set. And B&B are too stupid to think of making a firing range, despite the setup for more cool weaponry.Knife wrote:I would like to agree with you, but I rebel at firing any sort of weapon even a training weapon in a armory. Though, the training pistol is probably the equivlant of a flash light, while blanks and training grenades still contain explosives.
But it's still a stupid idea.

No kidding it's stupid. What if some moron picks up a real pistol instead of a dummy? This is Starfleet, an organization that apparently suffered a brief revolution of the sensible and intelligent against lint-headed morons during the TOS era, but has otherwise had a long and distinguished history of being run by people I wouldn't trust to unclog a toilet or run a grade-school dodgeball game. These bozos probably store the training pistols and the real ones together in the same locker, and keep them both armed and loaded.
Any city gets what it admires, will pay for, and, ultimately, deserves…We want and deserve tin-can architecture in a tinhorn culture. And we will probably be judged not by the monuments we build but by those we have destroyed.--Ada Louise Huxtable, "Farewell to Penn Station", New York Times editorial, 30 October 1963

Why didn't the colonists just ask Archer to take them somewhere nicer? For that matter, after the Klingons beamed out, why didn't they just beam back in OUTSIDE of the crappy little ring of fire, and attack the colonists while they were celebrating? Why didn't T'Pol take the Klingon warrior's bat'leth after she beat the crap out of him, and the weapon was LYING BY HER FOOT, so all she had to do was pick it up? Terrible episode, overall.
And what really bother me was the Klingon statement that the deuterium was "under great pressure," and that a shot fired into it "would incinerate the whole village." Later, of course, the thing lights up with about the intensity of a propane burner under a fondu pot. I didn't see any village-incinerating power there.

Waitaminit Waitaminit WAITAMINIT!
They really had the guts to show their contempt for the audience like this:
No, Paladin, it's not just you. Boobyprise IS getting dumber, and the Killer Bs are becoming more open with their utter contempt for the audience.
Don't be surprised if we see a recycled version of "Worst Case Scenario" this season or next.
Mining deuterium ore? And where have we seen that one before? That's right —on Voyager just two damn years ago! It's the same damn plot, they literally just changed the names and other little details around.paladin wrote:Enterprise needs deuterium so they visit a colony that mines it from soil like oil. There were a few problems with this episode... Where to begin?
1. Was it just me or did Archer & Co. not have any communications difficulties with these "aliens"? Did I miss the episode where the translator was fixed to near perfection? All Hoshi did was shoot a target that was two feet away from her and we were supposed to be impressed that she can shoot.
2. It was agreed that any assistance Enterprise provided would only harm the colonists in the end if the Klingons were not killed. Then, they decided to infuriate the klingons and let them escape in their ship. Does this make sense? I would like to see an episode later on that has the colony destroyed by the klingons because Archer did not destroy the klingon vessel.
3. Why did the ring of fire bother the klingons? They could have transported out of it and to another location. Was it just me or did the weapons the colonists were using seem really weak?
4. Why is Archer concerned about these people when he knowingly failed to provide a cure for a disease that was killing a few billion people?
5. I'm really sick of aliens that just have a few randomly placed prosthetic pieces.
Well, that was my rant against this episode. Feel free to disagree or add some more issues to the list.

Except that its not just the armory, its (as far as I can tell) the biggest open room on the ship. Bearing in mind they couldn't really go out on the deck and practice there, they may not have had much of a choice.Knife wrote:I would like to agree with you, but I rebel at firing any sort of weapon even a training weapon in a armory. Why would they need such a large room. Watching the episode, the ranges they were firing at while practicing were only a couple meters. You can find that kind of space just about anywere in the ship.Howedar wrote:Except that its not just the armory, its (as far as I can tell) the biggest open room on the ship. Or they could have just sent down the ANH rip off remote down to the planet in a shuttle and practiced in those big open spaces all around the colony.Knife wrote:Why would they need such a large room. Voyager Mk. II
It's exactly the same as when our dear Capt. Incompetent of the Voyager would grant asylum to a genocidal war criminal one episode, then turn right around and happily betray a bunch of dissident aliens to their world's dictatorial government in the next episode, invoking the Prime Directive as excuse and not giving a rat's ass as to whether or not they'd wind up turned to jello.Commander LeoRo wrote:4. Yeah. B&B do it once again. I think the Klingons are suppose to now see the error of their ways and reform their behavior. With writing like that, I wouldn't be surprised if Enterprise lasts another season before it's cancelled.Grand Admiral Thrawn wrote:So a rogue Klingon ships murders and steals and they go out of their way NOT to kill them?

I know I've said this before, but I seriously cannot believe you guys actually watch that shit. I watched ten minutes of the pilot, and that was more than enough for me. I could see the signature signs of B&B, and that was all I needed to know. Everything I've heard since then has only confirmed my initial assessment.
