Adar Krell sat alone in his office, the lights off. More and more he had grown to shun both light and companionship. He thought the darkness was best for reflection, and he couldn't stand to be around people these days. Occasionally a visitor would come, but no matter what their business they would invariably be chased away. He just didn't want to bother. The only one allowed in was Leego, and that out of necessity. Adar couldn't command a fleet by himself, although life would be so much easier if he could.
He was pacing now, up and down the length of his office, past the glass that looked out on space. It was not the frantic pacing of someone on the edge of his nerves, but rather the slow, deliberate pace of purpose; something to do while he thought. War was what occupied his thoughts now. The threat of war loomed across the galaxy. The Ouster fleets were mobilizing against the scapegoats in the White Sun. The UPA was moving to counter. The Unification positioned itself to take advantage. So much maneuvering, so much weakness. They could see the war coming, they all could, but none could see the detruction that was coming with it. These politicians thought only about their plots, thought in terms of numbers and lines on a map. The couldn't see the inferno that would come with their schemes. Worlds would be consumed in fire, and those burning would be too weak to see. Adar realized we was laughing. He didn't care. After all, it was funny. The galaxy was blind to the corruption, madness and destruction that was soon to overcome them all. He stumbled back to his chair, laughing as hard as he could because he forgot how to stop. He laughed into the void.
The void laughed back.

Ix'agal, Covenant of God Occupation Zone
General Burnside looked at his orders, just received from High Command. He then turned to his staff.
"We are to embark all units on our troop ships and withdraw from Ix'agal immediately. Operation Broken Covenant is at an end. You are to be moved to Itsil to await further instructions. The Hajr have attacked the White Suns, that'll be the cause of this. Give the orders."
The various colonels, majors, and captains saluted and scrambled to relay the orders. Troops began to scramble, packing equipment into cargo shuttles and rolling armored vehicles into troop carriers as they withdrew from patrols and garrisons to their insertion/extraction points under cover from armored divisions. Republican Marine units were picked up more swiftly and from their current positions by their C-420s. Aerospace Force fighters and bombers lifted off and went for orbit. Within hours, all Republic military presence was gone from Ix'agal.
Colonel [Placeholder] watched out of the rear ramp of his assigned transport in sadness as violence began to break out in streets his tank battalion had until a few hours ago enforced peace upon. He turned back as the ramp raised behind his tank and the transport's engines strained, reaching for orbit. "Damn," he muttered to himself, soberly regarding his unit patch painted on the command turret of his tank as the transport accelerated.

Orders circled rapidly through Krell Admiralty, put on high alert for the past three days. The invasion of White Sun meant immeditae action for some fleets, and those had been prepared, needing only the request of the client to follow through and complete their missions. One such order was received by the Combine fleet over Edean, guarding the Ouster holdings there. In a matter of minutes, the fleet came to bear and made the quick jump to the closest system, Ix'agal.
Data began pouring in the second the ships reverted to realspace. The targets were Nashtar and UP occupation forces over Ix'agal. The ships were packing up and moving away, but few had actually completed the packing and moved away from the planet. Most were still loading in preperation for departure.
The Krell fleet had a definite advantage, but the commanders wanted to play this one safe. Fighters swarmed out of the carriers, and along with the faster escorts moved to flank the Nashtar fleet and cut off escape routes. The main body of the fleet, Wall-cruisers in the van, advanced quickly and deliberately. From behind the screen of ships, missile frigates fired off their packages and set for another salvo.

We belive that there is no sufficient evidence to support the Hajr's war against the United Planets Alliance and it's member, the white suns confederation. We are however remaining neutral during these hostilities, and are closing all borders to foreign militiary vessels from all nations engaging in hostilities. If any enter our space at all, they will be destroyed. Civillians seeking refuge from the war zone will be admitted once they have been checked for weapons and hostile intelligence agents.

"Crappy." said a voice, the fleet was on it's way out the door, due to having way fewer troops to begin with and keeping most of them on ship anyway, when the Krell showed up. The missles shierked in, being burned down by point defense has ECM and jamming computers were chivyed into wakfulness. The salvo would land in seconds however. With the Commodore gone things had gotten lax. He had taken a chunk of the crusier group with him for the Amarr action.
"Return Fire." Spoke Captain Daniels, more calmly than he could possibly be.
338 missles slashed back at the enemy fleet, their computers seeking and grappling with Krell ECM has the missles lunged out.

The sensor officer went pale. "Captain?"
"I'm pretty sure we know why the Krell are here, but hail them. Ready missiles, relay to all missile-bearing ships in the fleet."
"Aye, sir."
"Sir, they're launching missiles!"
"Belay the hail. All batteries, open fire!"
256 missiles streaked forward from the task force, lancing for the Krell fleet.

As the Nashtar message was received, a second salvo was fired. The Krell capital ships closed to firing range and the flanking escorts and fighters pulled in towards the central formation, engaging the pickets. The missile barrage out of the UP ships was shot down almost to the missile under the withering countermeasures fire of the Krell capital ships. A few made it through, but few scored more than superficial shield damage. The resistance was valiant, but against the odds hopelessly futile.

Captain Daniels spat blood. He really wished he had 3rd fleet here, Admiral Tzu would punt these jackels into the 9th hell. Maybe in the next life...
"Skipper, the troopships made it out."
"Excellent, lets..." The Captain never finished that statement, has the 2nd Krell salvo blew his bridge open to the void.
The remaining frigates, attempted to withdraw pumping out another salvo of 155 missles, however 2 of them were to damaged to jump and it did not look like the rest would make it.

The five E-45 jamming craft from the task force's carriers turned on their powerful jammers straight out of the hangars as the fighters and strikers that swarmed out ahead of them moved to pick off incoming Krell missiles. Marine and Army C-420s and larger transports scrambled away from the incoming Krell as quickly as they were able, engines straining to get away and jump out on a vector, any vector, that would get them out of the system. The Sunspot and Plasma, the task force's two minelayers, started dumping their mines between the Alliance ships and the Krell. The four carriers in the force began to withdraw after launching fighters. The Kensington fell back behind the frigates, firing her railguns as she went. Two Dawn Raiders and a Starlight succumbed to the missiles and began to twist through space, spewing escape pods into the void. One of the Dawn Raiders broke in half when another missile homed in on the dying hulk and exploded squarely amidships. The few functioning railguns kept firing as the two chunks of hull drifted apart. The front half unleashed a single torpedo before finally exploding, probably as a result of another tube jamming from wreckage.

The UP troopships sprinted for the fighter screen the Krell had set up to cover escape vectors. They were immeidately covered in a swarm of fire, but miraculously burst out the other side, the fighters turned and gave pursuit, burning several out of the skies with their combined power. Some still escaped, though, and managed to make the jump out of the system.
The frigates limped behind, launching a final salvo of missiles. Again, most were destroyed by the overwhelming countermeasures, but a few got through. One or two even punched through shields, making small explosions bloom, but nothing that would be fatal to the ships. A few days repair and they would be good as new. The same could not be said of the UP ships, who succumbed quickly to the combined firepower of the Titans. Krell forces pulled away immediately to engage the Nashtar. They did not relish the opportunity to shoot at dead ships -and perhaps live people - left floating in space.
Edit: thought the cruiser was still alive in first iteration of post, changed last sentence to reflect that it was dead in the sky.

With the UP fleet destroyed or disabled, the Krell closed in on the Nashtar. It became apparent from the early stages of the battle that the UP would be trying to cover what it could and escape, while the Nashtar stayed and fought. The Krell feet was oriented with Wall-cruisers in the front in order to take the damage from Nashtar where it would be heaviest. The poorly armed ships lumbered forward, but powerful shields and defensive lasers were takign their toll on the Nashtar mines and fighters. Two Titans led the way, leaving the Lances behind. Each Titan fired off their three lance-cannons once in range, targeting the remaining Nashtar ships as thousands of drone fighters closed in to dogfight with the dwindling Nashtar fighters.

"The 36 hour period is up. The Union is formally at war with the Hajr. Due to the attack by the Krell on Nashtar territory, the declaration of War has been extended to include the Krell."
By that point, the Union had deployed its fleets. One fleet was already on course for Nashtar. They would arrive within 12 hours. Two more were preparing to join with UP and White Sun fleets. The five remaining fleets remained, for now at least, in Union Territory.

"Shields have failed, sir!"
Captain Wright had had enough. "Full fire on all weapons. Comms, Omega Signal."
"Aye, sir." The lieutenant activated fleetwide comms. "Omega, Omega, Omega, everyone out of here, now!"
Omega Signal was the Nashtari Fleet's last retreat order. Rarely used, it meant that the commander believed the situation so untenable as to make the risk of picking a direction and yanking on the hyperdrive lever preferable to staying any longer for a controlled jump. The order was immediately and enthusiastically responded to by every friendly ship in the combat zone.
Fighters dumped bombs and missiles from their pylons, simply dumping bombs and setting missiles to mass launch. Chaff, flares, and jamming flying behind them, throttles were advanced to the stops, in the direction of their carriers for the short range fighters and into hyperspace for the F/A-210s. The Kensington blurred, enlongated, and shot forward, her bow crushing four Krell fighters that were blocking the path she'd chosen. A third Dawn Raider took a full broadside from a Krell cruiser as she began to accelerate, scattering torpedoes and mines in her wake. Hit in the engines, she exploded. Only a few men in the very bow made it to escape pods as the front part of the ship tumbled on.
Austin Squadron
"This is Austin Five, we've got to go now!"
"Five, this is Eight. Boss is dead, we've lost at least half the squadron."
"GO, GO, GO!" Five yanked back on his hyperdrive lever and leaped forward, the starfield blurring as he made the transition to hyperspace. He jammed the levers back forward a few seconds later, finding himself in interstellar space with no sign of the enemy... Or any friendlies, for that matter.
Austin Eight jumped right into the side of a Krell fast destroyer.
Austin Seven made it out by way of solar north, emerging from her last-ditch hyperdrive jump nearly a lightyear above the ecliptic.
Austin Six was hit by a missile and ejected as his fighter broke up before he could jump.
The rest of the squadron was already dead.
NRS Lance
"Sir, we've recovered three fighters. No others are coming out, looks like," reported the CAG, his voice nearly breaking in grief and rage.
"Sir, another missile swarm, coming right at us!"
"Helm, GO!"
The carrier also jumped out. A Krell picket ship at her bow was smashed directly through the front hangar bay door as she accelerated, decompressing the hangar bay and killing the pilot of one of the recovered F-250s and the mechanics who were stowing his fighter. Two of the three Sun Strikers with her were not so lucky, eating the wave of missiles and dying, spewing escape pods into the void. The third accelerated behind the larger carrier, making the transition to hyperspace.
All in all five warships had made it out, along with ten fighters total. The two Nova class destroyers fell to counterbattery fire after unleashing all their missiles and the minelayers were destroyed for daring to be on the front line dropping their minefields. The Perseus, one of the two remaining destroyers, jumped out along the ecliptic and hit a pair of asteroids, killing all aboard. The C-420s had used their cannons and rockets to blast their way past Krell fighters scrambling to cut them off, and had mostly managed to cut their way free before heavy resistance against their escape could be organized. One of the large Army troopships, Hercules, had been destroyed outright, killing most of the two divisions on board. The others had given their own Omega order and jumped early.
Minister Godunov looked at the communique and snorted. "Genocide benefits no one, so we will engage in genocide to wreak 'justice' upon those who we can't prove did a thing. Arrange for standard POW protocols and get this out of my sight."
He then turned to another aide. "Draft a note to the Unification. Tell them that the longer our fleets are delayed in circumnavigating their territory, the more innocent civilians in the White Sun Confederation will die, and their blood will be on the Unification's hands. The worlds of the White Suns are facing a disaster as great as that visited upon Earth, which we fought to save them from, and now they prevent us from trying to stop a similar tragedy."

The fleets swept towards their target. A massive force combined, even if apart they were just a small part of their nations navies. 385 ships of war ran through hyperspace, 11 interdictors in the center of their sprawling formation. 6 interdictors were of the UP, boxy ships, with nothing besides their point defense and interdiction machine to warrent their inclusion. 5 were Republician design, the Nashtarians equipped their fleets well with support.
They tore into real space bearing into the system. Their objective was clear. They would strike a blow into the heart of the Hajr realm, where they had thought themselves untouchable. They would stab a spear into the heart of Goliath and show him there were other giants in the universe.
Admiral Williams, once Commodore Williams, of the new 5th fleet spoke to his counterparts.
"According to Viethan Intelligence this is a lightly guarded system. Of course we will treat it has heavily armed. All void borne craft that do not lower shields and power down weapons are to be considered hostile warships. They get just one warning gentlebeings." He said.
