Ive no problem acheving the other victories (conquest, diplomatic) but it wont let me transcend.
as Im getting 157% before transcending, this has me aggravated.
I dont thinkmy mod killed the game - I didnt modify the tech tree at all.
maybe its in the transcend project. . .

Bump!
Sorry, but I didn't know if it was worth starting a new thread or just asking a SMAC question in this one.
I only have the first SMAC, not the expansion. However a friend of mine says he's got it, and I guess he's willing to lend it to me, but not indefinitely. I asked Spyder and he says you DO need the CD to play SMACX (unlike SMAC, where if you do a complete install you can throw the CD away - not that you should though... throw the disk away I mean ).
So I hereby ask those who are in the know the following questions:

So I hereby ask those who are in the know the following questions:
- 1) Is it worth getting SMACX?
- 2) What is changed in SMACX from SMAC? I know you get new Facilities, Secret Projects, and weapons, but I want to know details. How do these new things signiticantly impact the game?
- 3) Does anyone know where I can find a no-CD crack for SMACX? Assuming one even exists of course...

1) YES
2) Besides the 7 new factions to choose from, I'd say the biggest change would be some of the new projects, namely the Planetary Energy Grid (Energy Bank in every base) and Cloudbase Academy (Aerospace Complex in every base).
3) Email me. Everyone uses it thesedays. Putting the CD in, especially when you play on a laptop, is just a pain.

Those projects sound yummy. Is there anything else that has drastically altered the game? For instance, Vel says artillery has gained a makeover and is actually worth building now. Any other examples?Archaic` wrote:2) Besides the 7 new factions to choose from, I'd say the biggest change would be some of the new projects, namely the Planetary Energy Grid (Energy Bank in every base) and Cloudbase Academy (Aerospace Complex in every base).

SMACX is *really* worth it. Makes for a even better game!Stofsk wrote:Bump!

Conventional missiles aren't really useful, unless used in high numbers.SylasGaunt wrote:On the Alpha Centauri subject how do you work the missile weapons? I've built them but I can never seem to get the damn things to explode properly.
Planetbusters, on the other hand, are terribly useful. Make sure to use them as a last resort, or if you have enough of them.
The fungus payload of SMACX is a pain in the ass as it spreads fungus all across your land, and the tectonic payload makes for shiny new volcanoes where former land was

The Arty actually works in SMAC as well as of the XP Patch now, so it's not as much of an issue. Before, there was a bug which really screwed Arty from doing significant damage.Stofsk wrote:Those projects sound yummy. Is there anything else that has drastically altered the game? I lost your email. In any case I could use a no-CD crack for this thing. I'll report back on the game (just installed, about to play in earnest).Archaic` wrote:3) Email me. Everyone uses it thesedays. Putting the CD in, especially when you play on a laptop, is just a pain.
[EDIT] Damn, I had hoped that a standard game would have the original 7 factions as well as the newest 7 as well, giving a grand total of 14 factions on one big planet. Instead, half of the established factions seem to have mysteriously disappeared, which is a bummer (I had thought 14 factions would make playing the largest map more manageable than previously).
Damn, those new worm units scared the shit out of me. Especially the sealurk - the little cunt came out of nowhere and attacked UN Headquarters. We fried 'im though, and had seafood for dinner. Fungal towers and Arty were cool... until my units blasted them.
I didn't get a chance to see some of the latest secret projects/facilities.
