I am quite distressed by players who have clearly not been active enough to understand the game, the rules, or current events suddenly becoming active players.

Especially after being inactive for massive amounts of time.

If the Floaters survive this war as a power, I'll be mad happy. I suspect it's the bit players who will be on the top at the end of all this...

I would be inclined to say the players who aren't in the war, are going to end up on top...

Where the hell are the reinforcements? Where the hell is Frigid, is my question. He was telling me over AIM that he couldn't get webpages to open and that he was going to restart, and I haven't seen him since. As per his last chain of command, if he doesn't show up by tonight I'm going to assume control of his fleets and defenses.

Apologies for my misunderstandings. I am unsure where to place my power on the map: there seems to be no room near the major alliance members, and the Union, while not exactly in the middle of things, can't be so far out that it would take a week.... Our space would be relatively near UP space, that's about all I know.

Also, how does in-game time work? I thought it would run faster than realtime, and no slower.

Some of my fleets were 'under way' already. The White Sun-bound fleet, for instance, was sent as soon as the attacks were present. The other fleets were sent in different directions, to other allies. The Draconis-bound fleet was almost certainly sent in their 'direction'. Maybe my times are a bit short, however. I'm not sure what would be reasonable.

Oh yeah, I'm thinking about ditching the Union after awhile and creating a new power. A sort-of 'Ousters lite' power (not quite as 'aggressive', not as short, not as short-lived, etc.), with certain unique qualities (telepathy (some cases), a 'roving' idea - not especially keen on staying in one place overlong, etc). My method was to wait until the Union gets pounded in the war. Isolationist parties come up, sue for peace, and the Union turns in on itself, becoming 'isolationist', therefore on the icebox. The only thing i'd ask is that my permission be asked before the Union gets conquered as an NPC power.

Don't just ditch your nation. That plays all kind of hell with the game.

Darksider, what exactly do you want to accomplish with this attack? I'm tempted to use your failure to specify a target to pitch you against Fourth Fleet at Shining Shield, but where I put you depends on what you want to do.

You know, mid-war is kind of the worst time to make up new powers.

I'm thinking one of the possible policies for post-war management of the STGOD would involve a lasting peace-treaty and a fast-forward to very near the expiration of it. That way, if anyone decides to drop out, bring in a new power, whatever, we have a little time to play with. It also gives time for the players who stick with it to rebuild and expand.

IMO the seasonal nature of the ASVS STGODs are part of the factor that helped them survive. You'd have the Game, and when that wound down, it wouldn't start again for several months and there was a gap assumed that gave people time to rebuild a little.

I don't know what the hell the Unification thinks it's doing, but our war aims are to get everyone the hell out of our territory. Which is why I'd wish people would pay attention to the obvious fact that we don't have an amazing vanishing fleet that could have been in Monacoran space. I mean, it's like the claim that a 757 didn't hit the Pentagon. It leaves the obvious problem of where the plane went, and the Monacoran accusation leaves the obvious problem of where the fleet went. This is transparent as it can be.

Agreed. Right now, a new power will have a huge advantage over the powers that took part in the war.

I guess you're not considering the likelihood that the victors will have gotten an advantage which will manifest itself more and more over time.

You'll find no pressing need to give advantages to those who do nothign of consequence.

If all the stupid Alliance inactives would get their rears in gear we'd steamroller you through weight of numbers alone, you backstabber, but somehow I don't see that happening. Damn it, why'd we end up with all the quitters? *Despairs.*

This is why we're giving them time, remember? The victors will lose ships, no doubt, but they will receive territories, new resources, and war indemnities to finance their rebuilding which the neutral powers will not have.

I think you're beginning to realize that you aren't as strong as you were boasting to Thirdfain lo those many days ago. I think he and the Unification knew it all along.
