That's not good enough. You were under the influence of four interdiction fields. You could not have jumped.

I've got reinforcements on the way (Or at least I will soon. This ain't over yet, Conner is a hero. If the UP takes him out, the second fleet will go on a bloody rampage, killing everything they can find)

*Shrug* He could surrender. God knows I've given the sucker enough opportunity; if he's really such a great naval officer he'd realize that the Monacoran data can't be right, because as he well knows, fleets don't disappear. Or he could get in an escape pod. Or something else of that nature. Hell, other units of the fleet could heroically cover for his ship and engage my fleet while he makes a break for it. I'm not out to utterly annihilate you no matter the circumstances. Any good naval officer would surrender when the situation becomes untenable in this kind of situation; fighting to the last ship over a questionable border dispute is just stupid.

If his fleet takes enough damage, without him getting killed, he will surrender.

Could you actually reply to some posts in the Story thread (I've edited them. Conner has turned to engage your fleet)

He accelerated out of range of the interdiction. He was already in motion, whereas you started at zero velocity relative to the planet, right? That gives him a major headstart.

Look... I'm not a big fan of the missile swarm that overruns all defenses in their path. Fleet battles should be less in the vein of "first shooter wins" and more of a systematic duel of maneuver and firepower.

Logically speaking, the big ships would be easier to target and would have more missiles headed at them.

I think he could have escaped, but he should have taken some losses in the missile attack.

I'm logging off now. We can resolve this in the morning after i've had some sleep (I'll edit my posts accordingly.)

The question I pose to the mods is this:

If I agree to take some casualties (1 or two cruisers, 3 or 4 frigates, and 10-20 patrol destroyers, plus a couple of other ships damaged) will the majority of my fleet be allowed to escape the UP forces and rondevous with the second fleet? (Rogue or Frigid can follow me if they want, but they'll be facing two fleets that will have fully charged fusion cannons)

Switzerland stayed neutral during the World Wars. Is it now a global superpower? Neutrality doesn't exactly get you anywhere just by virtue of being neutral.

The ways devised to counter to some degree electronic warfare are pretty simple in fact: use of cloaked scout frigates placed a good distance away from the Ousters to provide reliable coordinates of the position of the ships (more or less as marking a target with laser to guide a cruise missile) and use of EMP missiles to burn the systems of the decoys. Is this feasible?

Shining a laser on an Ouster ship (Lidar) is using active sensors on it. Painting a vessel with active sensors isn't a stealthy action, and your vessel will be detected and destroyed.

As for using EMP missiles to burn the systems of the decoys, it is as effective as using nuke missiles to blow up the decoys- i.e., exactly what the decoy designers want.
