How I finally got rid of the parental protection on my PS2:

It took me a year and a half, but I figured out how:

1) Insert a dvd movie into the PS2. Preferably one where you need to enter the code to watch it. Wait for the title menu to come up.

2) When the title menu comes up, press the select key to go into the menu. From there go into settings. Go into the menu with a lock icon as a header (press left twice).

3) From here, you can turn off the parental protection level completely, or set it to higher level.

This is the point where I got stuck. It wasn't saving the settings, so every time I turned off the console, it went back to the default settings. I finally figured out how to make it save them.

4) After setting it to your prefered level, eject the disc. This should bring you to the browser automatically. From there go into the main menu (from where you choose between browser and system configuration).

5) From the main menu, press the triangle button twice. You should now be in your playstationOne driver menu.

6) You should see two options labeled texture mapping and another having to do with load speed. Change one of them. It doesn't matter which, you can always change it back later. Go back to the main menu.

7) From the main menu, reset the console. When the movie loads, you should be taken straight to the title menu without having to input your code.

There. You will now never have to deal with it again.

Change or delete parental lock:
Press Start when prompted to enter the code. Once you get to where you enter the numbers, press Start and you will be asked if you want to delete it. You can also enter another code instead of deleting it. The master code is 7444. Enter it, and at the last "4", press Select at the same time. Do this again, and you will eventually get the option to delete the lock. Enter 7444 again to delete the code.

Does that method save the settings automatically? I know that I trouble trying to figure out how to save it myself.

I have an older model, refurbished PS2, and I bought a lot of Final Fantasy shit when I bought it.
