So they realize they don't have enough ladies around and their population is going to nose dive more then they wanted. What do they do then?

Except that they fear that the surplus of men to women will lead to a rise in homosexuality, something that they also wish to avoid. The Russians sent homosexuals to Siberia; I don't know what the Chinese do.Zor wrote:The only thing is they WANTS a lower population, this increase in men gets them closer to that goal, without the cost of bullets.Sea Skimmer wrote:Invade Vietnam again, steal women, problem solved.frigidmagi wrote:I'm a bit worried about what they'll do when they realize this. Why, exactly, are communists so afraid of homosexuals?Rogue 9 wrote:Except that they fear that the surplus of men to women will lead to a rise in homosexuality, something that they also wish to avoid. The Russians sent homosexuals to Siberia; I don't know what the Chinese do.

Part of it is likely due to the hedonistic lifestyle that homosexuals are believed by many to engage in. Such "depravity" would naturally be associated with Burgiouse(sp?) lifestyles and as such would become a target. Homosexuals represent a radical difference from the norm. For communist governments trying to force their populations into conformity this is a threat because it defies their attempts to enforce an aesthetic equality(I say aesthetic because most communist leaders didn't give two shits about actual equality of wealth, they just needed to look as if they did) and thus attacks their very power. Communism claims that classes of people can be treated as one, that all workers are the same, all peasants are the same, etc. Homosexuals prove this to be a lie by have desires that are radically different from the heterosexuals around them. At the same time, homosexuality cuts through all classes, which makes it hard for the communist governments to simply dismiss as a phenomenon of one particular class that will go away as the revolution progresses.Master of Ossus wrote:Why, exactly, are communists so afraid of homosexuals?Rogue 9 wrote:Except that they fear that the surplus of men to women will lead to a rise in homosexuality, something that they also wish to avoid. *Shrug* You got me. Lenin and Stalin would have them shipped out to count trees in droves. Don't ask me why. Perhaps Marx had something to say on the matter. Any deviation from the norm —especially as defined by the State— is to be ruthlessly suppressed. Any form of sexual expression not directly connected to reproduction is also to be suppressed, because sexual control of the masses enables the State to control the population completely. People who seek and achieve their own private satisfaction in life aren't so willing to be whipped up into frenzies against the enemy during the weekly Two Minutes' Hate. See George Orwell.Master of Ossus wrote:Why, exactly, are communists so afraid of homosexuals?Rogue 9 wrote:Except that they fear that the surplus of men to women will lead to a rise in homosexuality, something that they also wish to avoid. Going by current trends, china economy is increasingly linked to the East Asian region, creating a "rising tide lifts all boats" syndrome. This gives her increased economic and diplomatic clout amongst other nations, but also avaggrates existing trade and diplomatic issues.
Territorial claims are also likely to be more exerted, as an increasingly more and more industrialisted china requires more natural resources.
China social problems slowly become unmannagable. How this goes? Who knows......

The thing that's going to screw China over in the end is aged care.
With the one-child policy in effect, when the current generation of workesr begins to retire, there will be an inordinately large amount of retirees in the population. Each couple with retired parents will have FOUR aged family members to care of. China's lucky that they currently don't have a welfare system to speak of, so there won't be a dramatic increase in pensions paid, etc, but that many old people will still be a drain on their resources.

Actually, the male/female population disparity in China is largely a myth. According to the CIA World Factbook, the estimated male population of the PRC for 2004 is 669,038,638, while the female population is 629,808,986. 40 million more males than females is not a huge disparity in a country with a population of 1.3 billion. The average ratio comes out to 1.06 males for every female.frigidmagi wrote:So they realize they don't have enough ladies around and their population is going to nose dive more then they wanted. It just seems that way, especially if you come from a country with around 30 million. But to really get a handle on the situation, those numbers need to be broken down by age. It's the dispariety within a single generation that's important.Ma Deuce wrote:Actually, the male/female population disparity in China is largely a myth. They wouldn't have won in 1979 if the Chinese had felt like committing the resources for a real war, as it was they basically let there spearheads wither on a vine when the Vietnamese counter attacked. The fact that the PLAAF and PLAN are overwhelmingly superior wouldn't help either, back in 1979 neither force was capabul of making a major inpact on the fighting, had they even been ordered to.Patrick Degan wrote:

The issue isn't the current disparity, the issue is the future disparity which is the inevitable result of 'one child per family' and all those families preferring boys to the point of abandoning and even killing female babies.Ma Deuce wrote: Actually, the male/female population disparity in China is largely a myth.
