Monitor Colour Calibration

Post by aerius »

Simple question, pretty much every computer monitor has a setting for colour temperature, what do you set yours at?

My Viewsonic has a custom setting, I found the 6550°K setting to be a bit too red so I used the custom setting and made one that's a tiny bit bluer. My LG monitor is set to the stock 6550°K and it looks just fine for me.

I usually don't, but if I need to color-calibrate I'll use one of the wizards, or failing that I'll hold up a piece of paper and white-balanced to that.

Can/will do. Sorry about that.

I'm on my nice little laptop, and I don't bother to fiddle with anything beyond hte res. So it's default all the way for me.

An object's color temperature is the temperature of a black-body radiator with a perceived color the same as that of the light source. Wikipedia article

Or basically the bigger the number is the bluer the screen gets.

If your monitor has an OSD (On Screen Display, for the uneducated. ;)), it probably does.

According to my monitor, a 19" Hitachi CM715, 9300.
There are two kinds of people in the world: the kind who think it’s perfectly reasonable to strip-search a 13-year-old girl suspected of bringing ibuprofen to school, and the kind who think those people should be kept as far away from children as possible … Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between drug warriors and child molesters.” - Jacob Sullum

Hijack question:

MY monitor has recently started making a noticeable high-pitched noise constantly when displaying my desktop or browser, I noticed it's more rponounced when it displays the color white predominantly, and less so with dark colors. Thoughts?

No asinine posts, either, if you know what it might be say it, if you don't, don't go for a FUQ here.

Or go for a FUQ, I don't care *wink* (But I really would like some help!)

^ What's your refresh rate at? If you are at high res and a refresh your vidcard can handle but not your monitor it can cause problems like that.

Your monitor is poorly made and at certain refresh rates it will whine. Sometimes it'll go away for mysterious reasons, other times you'll have to change it.
