Anyone having errors while play GTA Vice City?

I keep getting these "Error reading the GTA Vice City DVD" in game, and another that is a grey square with a pink "loading..." durning normal gameplay. I went to Rockstar's site, got directed to their parent company, Take 2, and called them up. She basically asked me a few questions. About where I was using codes, which I was now, but this was happening before I started to, and any peripherals other than the controller, which I'm not. Then she mentioned it might have something to do with my actually PS2, and sent me an email link to PS's troubleshooting site. But it basically has the same info I saw on the Take 2 site. She also suggested I try it on a friends PS2 to see if it worked there.

So I was wondering whether or not any of you have had this same trouble? I have a feeling that this might be related to the manufacturing of the game. After all, trying to crank out so many games might have caused them to slip up a few times.

I haven't had those problems now that I was FINALLY able to get Vice City yesterday (I had a bit of a SNAFU when first buying the game that has been discussed in an earlier thread). Is your PS2 one of the first generation PS2's that hit stores when they first came out? Mine is, and there have been reported problems with the DVD-ROM reader in them. I've had freeze ups playing some other DVD based games like NCAA Football 2003.

Isil'Zha had problems like this on his PS2 with some games that included GTA3. It's probably the laser lens, which if damaged, can cost a lot to replace.
