Superbit DVDs

Post by Galvatron »

Why aren't there more Superbit DVDs? Am I the only one who would rather have the highest possible quality version of a movie that DVD technology will allow versus sacrificing the quality to accomodate more supplemental crap on the disc which I'm not likely to watch more than once?

What is Superbit?

Industry profit maximization and copy protection shit. The same reason we don't have many DVD-A and SACD audio discs out, and don't allow digital outputs from those players. Furthermore they're trying to put watermarks and other copy protection garbage on these new high quality audio discs that degrades the sound so it sounds no better than a normal CD. I too want maximum quality out of my media, but the big companies are more interested in how many cool extras they can squeeze in to differentiate their discs from each other. Which is why I don't support them and buy my stuff 2nd hand, and I support deserving artists by buying direct from them.

Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either. :P

Don't I wish there were more superbit DVDs. Video editing has spoiled me with the DV formats :)

Superbits are still pretty new, but growing. The first discs were basically experiments to see if their was a market. Now, there are the deluxe superbits that have all the extras, except commentary, as well as ultra good video and audio. It's only because we are living through the introduction that there doesn't seem to be many.

Note: Superbits aren't confined to one company. They must get the rights to do it first, right? Many companies prefer to handle most if not all of their DVDs inhouse. It's kind of like Criterion.
