That never works either. Anything I quote directly from the Bible is always dismissed as "out of context" or a "parable." He doesn't consider himself a fundie, but it became obvious to me when he started offering the alternative explanation for Earth's origin straight out of the YEC handbook.

Actually, he labeled me as an atheist after pressing me to reveal to him my religious beliefs over lunch one day. When I equivocated--in an attempt to keep religion out of the workplace and all--he referred to me as an atheist to another co-worker weeks later during a three-way conversation. It wasn't until a year or so after that when friction developed between us over work-related matters that he started slandering me for my lack of belief.

The man's actions as you describe them seem to indicate that he follows none of the principles that Jesus taught. From the sound of it, that "Fundie" has never read the Bible, much less practiced tenants found within it.

Dude! I'm not a Biblical scholar! And I sure as hell don't want to get wrapped up in his bullshit circular arguments in front of an audience of moderate Christians who are more likely to be sympathetic to his point of view than mine. It's a no-win situation for me.

A path to victory always exists. My advice is for you not to play his game by his rules, and that will require creativity on your part.

Just saw your web site.
I'm an atheist. Question: what will happen to me when Christ returns?
I think you know what I believe, but the point is that I don't beat you over the head with it. Nor do I have any patience for those who claim to serve Christ and then go about spreading hateful messages...

i consider myself Christian, though i've got a lot of Wiccan beleifs mixed in as well... a number of my friends are athiest, i may not agree with their view that there's no higher power, but i certainly won't shun them, make fun of them, or preach to them. personally i hate being preached to and i've gotten into it with the mormons and the JW's over this relatively frequently. another reason my beleifs are not clearcut, apparently the Christian varient "religions" such as islam, catholocism, protistant sects, satanism, etc. don't exactly look too highly on gays...(also reason #459 why i don't go to church)
btw, i obviously don't go to church, it took my dad years to get it thru his head that church and me are 2 things which don't get along.
Galvatron wrote:...has taken it upon himself to tell my other co-workers that I "hate God" because I'm an atheist. I haven't noticed a lot of fallout from this (yet), but I was overlooked when my supervisor (a moderate Catholic) recently had his baby boy baptized and everyone except me was invited to the event. Keep in mind, I don't advertise my atheism so it's not as if I'm some outspoken, anti-religious activist in the workplace.
Anyone else with similar experiences?
Trust me, I'm a Catholic and I've been to baptisms before...you didn't miss anything and your wallet is spared from minor damage.
In the infamous split that lead to the rise of Protestant Christianity (and the subsequent conflict with Catholic Christianity), Martin Luther said that a good Christian does not have to attend Church. Which to me, it's not. I have my beliefs in Christianity, but it is a private thing for me. I wouldn't necessarily call myself a Protestant though, as I am not the most practising of my faith, save for the ideas of 'do unto others as you will have them do unto you', and generally trying to be helpful and friendly in all my endeavours.
Religion is a subject that should be kept out of the workplace. If you are being harrassed about it, you can take the matter to the courts on the basis of discrimination.
P.S: Someone mentioned something about being disowned because they were a Baptist and were going out with a Catholic? That's just as crazy as if it were a Jew, Hindu or anything. In fact, even less understandable- you're both Christians right? So what does it matter if there are a few differences? Shouldn't matter regardless of any religious difference. I'm jetting off to the US on the 16th Nov to meet a woman who happens to be a Baptist (again, not the most practising), and I for one don't care.
Just riding home today. My Mom said: "things'll get worse until God comes and stops the Devil." I merely stepped on my foot, bit my tongue, and rolled my eyes.
