if that happened here, and the US Congress tried to ban hunting, the protesters would have been armed. and from Alabama.

Not just from Alabama. :P
Seriously, the taxes and fees on hunting and hunting gear pay for a large part of most states and the federal government's wildlife management programs.

Except for a few fringe assholes, the nation as a whole isn't stupid enough (Californians and their bans on hunting dangerous wildcats excepted) to push something like this through.

Yet.
Though as more and more people seem to think that Bambi is a realistic portrait of life among nature, I wonder sometimes.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier

The storming of the House of Commons is disturbing. What with that guy dressed as Batman getting into Buckingham Palace and now this along with such riots, Blunkett had better get his shit together. He's a useless home secretary.

Things like bans on hunting may become more popular as a growing number of the population live in urban areas. I used to think hunting was evil until I met my best freind in law school, an avid deer hunter from Wisconsin who taught me that hunting is not all that the city boy in me thought it was.

This is primarily about fox hunting, i.e. getting a bunch of dogs to rip a fox apart whilst some guys ride around on horses shouting "Tally ho".

We lock them up in special places,

their called estates and have facilities for these poor demented people who, due to some long ago disease, think themselves superior to other folk...

Wow, I'm really starting to wonder about the efficacy of GB's police forces. Protesters seem able to get in practicly anywhere. Eventually, if security isn't tightened, there will be lives lost.

On a tangentelly (is that a word?) related note, hunting at least some things with dogs is important. A fox isn't much of a threat to anyone, but up here you can no longer hunt cougar with dogs, and the things are breeding like mad, getting into all sorts of residential areas, and eating many pets. They simply aren't afraid of people and dogs anymore, and thats a bad thing.
Watch out, here comes a Spiderpig!

How much is it actually Blunkett's fault though? He can appoint all the security he wants, but if the arse off as they seem to have here, there's not that much he can do until something happens.

Is he even in charge of security there?

Nothing more they could do to guarantee the bill gets passed really, piss off the MP's, and by the actions of admittedly a small minority, associate the hunt with a load of pissed young blokes blowing hunting horns and things.

I'm quite pleased with the whole business. Quite where the need is in this day and age to chase a small furry animal (regardless of how many chickens the small furry animal happens to have savaged) across a country with a pack of hounds until it gets caught or escapes and dies of exhaustion ten minutes later is, I've no idea.

Also, gut-reaction feeling on hearing the news was that it was mildy entertaining to hear some of the hunt protesters complaining that the police were using batons against the front lines and being heavy handed - I mean, it's almost like chasing a small furry animal... wait a minute.

Police etc arent allowed into the House, the Commons security are answerable to the speaker and police etc are only allowed in with his express permission. Even when shit like that is going on...you might have noticed the tights and swords on the security people in the footage. ;)
