Man throws baby out of car, dies.

Post by Companion Cube »

Saw this in a newspaper, but here's the online source.

Fortunately, the baby survived, apparently unharmed.
Sgt Dan Pamenter said the child was 'crying a little bit' but calmed down when he picked her up and put her in his car.

He said: 'She didn't have a scratch on her.

'She wasn't even dirty. She had on these little pajama things. She was just as content as any baby.'

The baby survived because they slowed down and set the baby on the ground. LOL the press can be so like Micheal Moore sometimes ;)

Here's the full story:
Suspect chased by US police. Then...
He throws baby out of car

THE police were in hot pursuit. So he threw the baby girl from his moving car, then took off again.

Later, he died when his car hit a road block, the US police said yesterday.

The dramatic car chase was caught on video and released on television, stunning US viewers.

The incident began as a domestic dispute between a couple in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, but escalated into an attempted kidnapping.

A 23-year-old man took off in his girlfriend's car with her 8-month-old daughter, the police said.

He is not the father of the baby.

During the chase last week in north-eastern Wisconsin, the man rammed a state patrol car before slowing down to push the baby out of the car on a stretch of highway 41.

The girl was strapped into a child seat, which slid, spun and tipped over.

But she was unharmed, said the Wisconsin State Patrol. She was found by sheriff's deputies.

COLLIDED WITH POLICE CAR

The man took off again, hitting speeds of 160km an hour and rear-ending another vehicle, before finally colliding with another police cruiser and rolling his car.

He was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. He died in hospital.

Sgt Dan Pamenter said the child was 'crying a little bit' but calmed down when he picked her up and put her in his car.

He said: 'She didn't have a scratch on her.

'She wasn't even dirty. She had on these little pajama things. She was just as content as any baby.'

Sgt David Catalano said he spoke to the baby's mother on Monday and that the girl was doing fine.

'I am so pleased the baby was not hurt. That was a huge relief. I couldn't believe my eyes,' he said.

Sgt Catalano said he had been told that the man was not the father of the child. - Wire services.

She was in a car seat and the car was moving at a slow pace when he did it. Still, he sure got his just desserts.

Reading that, I thought he threw the seat out the window at high speed or something!

A woman at the office saw it on the news.. he definately slowed and set the seat down as carefully as he could.

Well, actually there's a good chance the people in the car got the baby out because they were concerned for its safety. I mean the baby probably would have died if it stayed in the car with them...they did slow down. Not making excuses for them just giving another angle.

Agreed....really, there's no other reason why they'd take the baby out of the car if it wasn't to try and keep her safe. If they were fucked up enough, they might have realized that by keeping the baby in the car, the cops might have eased off the chase so they didn't endanger the baby....luckily the guy didn't figure this out and the baby is fine

I love the way they try to dramatise this to make it look as if he threw the baby out of his car while at full speed and the baby somehow miraculously survived.

Indeed, that's the impression I got from the newpaper article I read as well.

Hmm, in retrospect maybe this thread title should be changed. Still it's a stupid thing to do.

The article doesn't say anything about whether there were injuries in the civilian vehicle he slammed into at 160km/h.
