what i was planning was since my people have discovered aliens they would send a unit back to earth to find out what has been happening, since they essentially cut themselves off.

If I played my battlestations as written, each one would be on par with a dreadnought and then some. Go look. Those mass drivers should be able to hull a cruiser without breaking a sweat; in fact, I showed them doing just that to an old battlecruiser in my demonstration video at the Ravenlock Trade Fair, and that was on an older model station. I don't get to play them that way in game. You don't either.

Considdering that interstellar human society is about 700 years old (It's later than the year 2800,) your people would have to be ridiculously blind, dumb, and stupid to not notice the aliens. Besides, if you are advanced enough to have a competitive space navy, you are advanced enough to have hypercomms and access to either the Known Space Datanet or the Freecaster Network. In any case, your people would likely have at least a general idea of what's going on if they live within Known Space. That's not completely necessary- you can have your folks start out beyond the Rim and have them be a lost colony...

Parliamentary Monarchy is clashing with Democracy. It's an ideology war for galactic hegemony, to show who will build the new Humanity on the ashes of the Genocide Wars. It was inevitable since the Alliance signed that sheeet of paper uniting it under a common tie- you had to be broken, if the imperial goals of the Central Powers and Manticore were to be realised. I see fit to assist them in this, as it benefits me.

Evil? Perhaps- but it's certainly very HUMAN. Cultures meet, clash, and either blend, or one dies and one ascends. It seems the naieve Alliance, with it's intense ideology and "moral" disdain for the Central Realpolitik is waning.
