Man shows up for own funeral

Post by Korvan »

Funeral
TORONTO -- The family of a Toronto man say they were shocked when he showed up at their home while his own funeral service was in progress.

Forty-eight-year-old Dane Squires quickly put in a call to the funeral home, where his daughter was bidding a final farewell to the man she thought was her father.

Relatives were watching the casket get loaded onto the hearse yesterday when the funeral director came running out to tell his daughter.

Squires had been identified as the man hit by a GO Train last Friday night in east-end Toronto.

Police say his sister identified the dead man after viewing the body at the coroner's office.

Squires was out with friends and hadn't seen his sister since last week.

Police are back to square one trying to identify the real victim.
Now, there's something you don't see everyday. Still, walking into your own funeral is a heck of alot better than being buried alive.

What I want to know is, how did everyone mistake whoever the dead guy really was with him? His sister and daughter and all the people at the funeral didn't even notice that he didn't look like himself? I can only think that the other guy must have been a lookalike or the body had been mangled up enough that it was hard to tell and they had a closet casket service. But then again, if the body was that mangled up, then why didn't they use dental records or a genetic test to make sure?

And who is the dead guy, then?

His sister identified the body.

It could have been closed casket so nobody else would have looked.

The Swedish channel 4 television (or the public service channels, I can't remember which) videotext service mentioned this yesterday, but they wrote that it was his brother and the police that identified the body, and that the man CALLED the home later the same evening, not that he appeared at his funeral. Is it possible that this story has grown out of proportion?
