Why the hell are they doing this? dont they realise the more protests they make like this, the more the Goverment is going o be glad it banned it?
their excuse that its going to ruin the local economys of their areas is bollux, they can make it a "Fake Hunt" where you chase after nothing, yet get the chance to ride the horses and get the dogs out anyway.
Just because they want to go murder in cold blood...

Its not a case of going and shooting as you do in the US, its hunting where you chase the animal with dogs and horses. Its not a ban on hunting, but a ban on hunting with dogs.Col. I'd just put it to a referendum, the result would likely be the same, it gets banned.
i think it´s because of unnecessary animal cruelty.Col. Crackpot wrote: they are on their own land? why the fuck can't somebody hunt on their own country estate? Because you don't want them too? Here's a novel concept people, mind your own fucking business!
these animals don´t get shot by a single shot but get either ripped appart by dogs or at least chased a long ass time by dogs.
you want to hunt? ok, do so, but in a way not involving unnecessary cruelty.
why does everybody scream for the death penalty if some nutcase tortures and kills his dogs/cats for fun and on the other the same people want to keep unnecessary cruel hunts in which the victims are not dogs/cats but foxes?
are dogs so much better than foxes?
No. Foxhunts are usually carried out over other people's land, with permission.Col. Crackpot wrote:they are on their own land? why the fuck can't somebody hunt on their own country estate? Because you don't want them too? Here's a novel concept people, mind your own fucking business!
There are, of course, examples of landowners' wishes not being respected, and hunts going where the fuck they please.

If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! What about hunting such as racoon hunting, or upland bird hunting? Both sports use dogs. Racoon hunting involves a chase, and is usually 50/50 in whether or not the racoon is actually caught. Upland bird hunting uses a dog that finds where birds are nested in a field and points or flushes the bird.
I personally see nothing wrong with them. As for fox hunting, meh, big deal.

I've been staying in Wimbledon for a month or two because of the summer holidays, and I see the dammed things every night (yes, right in the middle of the city). The worst part is when they fight, they make a really fucking distrubing screaming noise, first time I heard it I thought someone was being attacking. Not nice to be woken up by at 3 AMHitch Hiker wrote:also when was the last time anyone saw a fox in the UK...15 years and i havent seen hide now hair of them.. and i live by a load of farms fro frells sake
I did use to see them quite often when I lived out in the country up in Scotland, but I don't think fox hunts are even done there.

"The trouble is, a fox is a small furry animal, not unlike a cat or dog. People can be emotionally attached to these creatures. I don't think they'd feel quite the same way if it was a little toy car full of paper, that the dogs were chasing around."
There are lots of urban foxes, though. If people started cornering them in city areas and used their pet dogs to maul them to death, I'm sure the "ghastly townies" as that fat lady might call them, would attempt to stop that too.

It's not as if there would be opposition to pest control type hunting, but what we are talking about with the British fox hunt ban is a very specifc type of thing. These idiots just sit on the horses, run around for a while and have the dog pack catch the fox and tear it to shreds while they watch. Not comparable at all to bird hunting. I've no idea what the raccoon hunting you're taling about is like, so don't know how that compares. I don't frankly see a single good reason why the tradional British fox hunts should be allowed at all.Nathan F wrote:What about hunting such as racoon hunting, or upland bird hunting? What makes me laugh is that they claim to run hunts to keep fox numbers down, despite hunts being caught breeding foxes before (http://www.guardian.co.uk/hunt/Story/0, ... 82,00.html). Why they can't simply admit that they just like dressing up in silly clothes and chasing around the countryside with dogs I have no idea.Edi wrote:It's not as if there would be opposition to pest control type hunting, but what we are talking about with the British fox hunt ban is a very specifc type of thing. Their usual reasoning is quite flawed. They tend to bring up the quite fallacious point that without hunting measures, foxes will breed to amazing numbers like that virtual ecology program with the foxes and rabbits and eliminate all farm life in no time at all. I guess they haven't noticed that this doesn't occur anywhere in the world and that natural factors limit such phenomenas such as predator-prey relationships.
They also spout that it's a tradition, part of English heritage that shouldn't be scrapped anymore than the Queen and monarch. They'd have a point if such an institution was loved by the masses (it is not) and had any real benefits like the monarch which is a tourism goldmine. Wrong again.
If that fails, they pull out the class discrimination card. Hey, arseholes, the gov't banned cock fighting, pitbull fighting and numerous other cruel and unusual sports often hosted by the working class long before your poncy "sport" was even considered for the chop. Heck, the "sport" of allowing trained dogs to chase rabbits and hares and bet on who wins was being looked into long before foxhunting, so spin on it.
There are probably more "arguments" they have which are all needlessly stupid or petty such as the farm community will rise against the city people (despite plenty of country folk, myself included, opposing such hunts) and other such ridiculous things like calling the action fascism in action.
