Of course not. Because an 8-year-old alter boy isn't old enough to know what to think. I have mush less sympathy for an adult with some really messed up ideas of what constitues a remedy. Still, Batman's argument is fairly interesting. It is her fault because she was ignorant, but is Mr. Witchdoctor not also culpable for taking advantage of that ignorance?

Im not sure either way, now. I don't think that she was a willing and entirely cognicent of what was happening, but neither do I believe that she was the helpless victim of a diabolical criminal mind. She's just a fool.

An 8-year old boy is not legally able to make decisions like that. An adult woman is.

Let's say a music industry exec tells a budding young would-be starlet that if she takes it up the ass, he'll make her a star. She takes it up the ass, and she doesn't become a star. Does this make him a rapist? Or does it just make her an idiot?

I think in some places you can be charged with rape if you get a woman to sleep with you by promising marriage and then back out.

It's rape all over the place if she agrees and then changes her mind later. I've seen it happen.

I feel like a bastard for this, but I really feel no sympathy for the woman.

Good point. Although certain people have more perceived authority than others. Priests and doctors, for example, carry a certain credibility with people, and they should be punished if they abuse that trust. Granted though, this guy wasn't a real doctor.

That's a statutory rape under UK law at least. Even if the shit got away with the statutory rape, he would be sowed under a shitload of civil offences, such asdeceit, misrepresentation, trading descrptions, etc.

also, Muti is the same field of practice that has led to alot of ritual murders in Africa, specifically in Lesotho, and Nigeria, as well as at least one publically exposed murder in London.

how is it statutory rape if the woman is legally old enough to have sex? does uk statutory rape law differ from the US significantly or something?

Consent obtained via deception is still rape under UK caseand statutory law. It's a principle in play since the 1950's over here.

For statute go to www.hmso.gov.uk - look for both the Crimnial Justiceand public Order Offences Act 1994, and the Sexual Offences Act 2003 - whose definitions supercede the 1994 act.
