Then new Yavin,

Then new Yavin,
Looks like crap. Just finished Ep IV, and when the rebel squadrons do their Yavin flyby, the new CGI Yavin looks terrible.
That, and Kenobi's new Kyrat dragon call, sucks.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

On that note, so is the rust splotches on the Sand Crawler.

Yavin or the sandcrawler? The mid-new scene in the SE with the CGI sandcrawler, has new oragne splotches of rust or wear and tear, on it. Its the scene with the sandcrawler coming up and over a dune, as it goes to the Lars family farm.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:You mean they changed it again?

I don't remember the SE Yavin in the flyby looking so CGI. I'll have to plot in the tape tommarrow, but watching it today on the DVD, it jumped out and said "Hey look at me, don't I look fake!"Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Yavin. It sounds like you're bitching about something that's seven years old.

Oh, and while I'm thinking of it, the new Jabba is better, but I don't think he should be so green.

If I started bitching it definately would be.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Yavin. It sounds like you're bitching about something that's seven years old.
I haven't seen ESB and RotJ SE before and it's been 7 years since I saw the ANH:SE. Lots and lots of stuff that didn't need to be fucked with, and far too much of it screams fake.
It does look like they did a good job cleaning up effects, mat lines etc... I was glad to see the Rancor looking a little less...flat.
RotJ does look odd with the changed bit at Jabba's palace and all the added celebration scenes at the end. If it weren't for this thread I wouldn't have known that one of the places celebrating was Yavin (why the Empire didn't come back and smoke the place out of spite...?). I was getting lost because they were showing so many different places celebrating.
I also thought the insertion of Hayden Christensan as Anakin's spirit made it seem even more like he got off easy for all that he did as Vader.

They put a red glow in for Yavin, when the Xwings took off from the rebel base. I kind of liked that one.Tsyroc wrote:Well that's good then, 'cause that means I didn't miss it.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Huh? Yavin's not in the celebration montage at the end of RotJ.
But the CGI Yavin they used for the Falcon flyby to Yavin IV and the Yavin they used for the Xwing flyby, sucks.

I've got a strange feeling this is more 'I don't remeber what's new in the films and what isn't, so I'll complain about whatever looks odd now that I can see it on DVD' jumps to conclusions like a couple of statements I've seen in the last few days. I didn't notice any difference from the '97 SE, and I saw it maybe 3 months ago.
By His Word...
CGI Yavin (in the two fly-bys, and the atmospheric shot with obscuring clouds) has been there ever since ´97, get a decent pair of glasses.
And, yes, I think it looks good.
The Sandcrawler going over the dune is not CGI, it is the same fucking model they used originally. They just filmed it up close so it looks alot bigger.
Wow, some people can´t tell the difference between CGI and modelwork, color me surprised...

It looks fine to me also. It seems as if people complains about CG Yavin just because they know it's CG. The "new" sandcrawler isn't CG, since modelbuilder Lorne Peterson (who also worked on all the three original movies) said in a Hyperspace chat that he worked on the SE shot of the sand crawler.Icehawk wrote:Hm, it looks fine to me.
EDIT: You beat me to it, VT-16.

That was just what I said in my post, wasn't it?!VT-16 wrote:Read. My. Online. It's cool. I've edited my post to make it less vague.VT-16 wrote:Yep, but I just felt the need to repeat my stance, just in-case the "I know CGI when I see it"-crowd look past my earlier statement. And you were being a bit vague. People jump all over statements that are vague. Sorry if it looked like I was directing it at you.
Funny thing, I watched a clip from the O-OT the other day, and the take-off scene in IV has a huge, red blob that´s supposed to be Yavin as seen from Yavin IV. If people think this is somehow more realistic than either the Yavin obscured by clouds or CG Yavin in space, who am I to shatter their dreams...
It surprises me how a lot of people havent seen the SE often and forget what's new and what isn't. Yavin doesn't look fake at all IMO. I've seen the SE more than the originals- I wager. I still know what changes were made and where, though.
