I have no doubts people will see it chronological order.

But from a standpoint that isn't about opinions...the movies do not flow that well in chronological order. Literally the PT characters are rather dry and the tension does not have the same palpability.

As I said...you wonder what is such focus on this Anakin Skywalker. And seriously the whole point of ESB falters...immensely. An average viewer watching in Chronological order would go to the penultimate point "Well, duh."

In that is why I think Lucas faltered. His biggest revelation is nothing in order, and as a story that is not a good point.

For the highest drama and best stroytelling potential it really must be seen as IV-VI then II-III (TPM should be avoided at all costs.) IV-VI tells us the story of Luke Skywalker, holds the biggests shocking surprise twist in recent cinema history and is just a better written story.

Then you want to find out - Well How did Anakin become Vader? What drove him to this. How did this whole situation come about? Well, then you watch II-III.

Its really the best way to get the most out of the story. Watching it II-VI would be a much more meh storyline. All the twists are gone and the tension and drama are lost.

I and plenty of other people are living proof that people can perfectly enjoy seeing the story unfold from I to VI, it´s just another kind of suspense.

I´ve always liked ROTJ more than ESB because of the way it deals with Vader´s revelation. Had the story just stopped with Empire, I wouldn´t be on sites like this today. The revelation bears no real significance before you see it´s consequences. How Vader and Luke interacts during the DS II conflict is what sells this part of the story for me. Without that, the revelation is nothing more than a good chill-inducer.

With the inclusion of the prequel-story you get a fleshing-out of the story of several important oldies in the OT. I think things like Obi-Wan being cut down as an old man bears more of an impact after seeing him fight his way through three films. It´s part of the reason I advocate PT first, OT second.

I'm thinking that it's part of the problem, but it doesn't have much significance in the overall plot of the series either. You could easily have skipped it and not end up wondering why most of the stuff in AotC happened the way it did.
