In the worst case, Stravo, just keep your old DVD player and use when needed. HD-DVD players will almost certainly play DVD; BD-ROM players might need a caddy (remember those from the early CD-ROM days?) since Sony wants to use a cartridge form factor to protect the disc.

Quit your whining. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Wait till the six movie set comes out if you want another version.
I wasn´t whining, I was commenting on others who do whine and make alot of noise about DVD-sets. Please, read all my comments before throwing shit like that.

Quit your whining. If you don't like hearing it, don't read it, don't respond to it. I'm sure there will be another one. Just that he's made us wait seven years for this one, and then it looks rushed in places. Believe me, it's good, but it could have been so much more.

Beta. ; )

Yeah, I consider it a "beta"-version alright. ;)

Still, with the ´97 additions and FX-fixes combined with the ´04 additions and fixes it´s the best version yet, and keeps up with the new Eps better than the old ones did. The Greedo/Han thing is too in-consequential for me to even bother mentioning. As long as the beard keeps bodies piling up in ROTS, I can "forgive him".

IMHO <--- Debaters personal "character shield" :P

IMHO, you are right. ; )

Yeah, the DVD set does have some annoying flaws (the lightsabers are another one), but the good parts pretty much outweigh the bad.

It's like the one hair found in your otherwise wonderful plate of food. And the waiter just gives you a dirty look when you mention it to him, going on and on about how much time and money was spent preparing your meal, and how the hair might be from you rather than the kitchen, and you just roll your eyes back, etc.

I don't see this posted, but there's another glitch, this time audio. Apparently the entire soundtrack to Episode IV is backwards when playing on surround systems or even normal it seems. The sound is good, but the instruments play on different sides of the speakers.

In anycase, this little thread has led me to put off buying the set now. I feel gullible enough contemplating it despite having the VHS box set, but if I want a real completist feeling, I'll wait for the HD version in a six-box set.

Speaking of bad lightsabers...

Aside from the green saber inconsitency, the lightsabers just look plain fucked up. No white core with the little aura, in some shots. Just a homogenous beam.
In the following three links you can see some more lightsaber inconsistencies(some scrolling involved):

I wish people would get off that stupid fucking "Han Solo was wearing a vest" idiocy for the carbon freeze chamber. No, he WASN'T. His shirt was simply in shadow. He didn't HAVE the vest for the entire movie!

Luke's macrobinoculars use Arabic numerals too. WEG never invented an Aurebesh alternative.

I agree, they look bad, and who has the time to painstakingly mess with the brightness and contrast everytime a lightsaber scene comes up? Not that you could achieve the same effect except on individual screencaps.

About the only time the sabers actually look "better" is in the scene with Vader and Obi-Wan's duel. Of course if you're a purist you may object to the fact that they're now using "prequel" sabers, that is, a solid white core with solid color bleeding off, rather than how it was originally.... with Vader having a "neon" red core with no glow, and Ben having a blue "painted" fluffy blue glow. Then again, Obi-Wans saber in the cantina looked pretty prequelish before if I'm not mistaken, just a bit more glowy now. In my opinion the "best" sabers were how they looked in ROTJ. But they had to mess with that even by coloring in the cores in many of the shots. : (

Then again, the first time we see Luke in the falcon his green saber looks pretty cool, even if it's the wrong color. After that it looks pretty crappy.
