To HDS

Honestly, now that I've read it (the radio drama version at least from Timetales), it is certainly nice that DE had many ships, but some of DE is a bit wanky. Especially the tree, which even I agreed was lame, and how useless could those Dark Jedi be really?

The attack of Balmorra is executed in typical comic

Side A: "Oh yeah? Take this!"
Side B: "Arrrgh! We are being slaughtered. Dammit, time to bring out these new superior weapons that I have been holding back for no apparent reason.
Side A: "Aaaaarrrgh! I didn't know they had this. Darn it, time to bring out those weapons I have been holding back for no reason!"

No no, its more like this.
"Holy Batman, The Joker got a gun!"
"Never fear Robin, my batarang with its special magnetic forcefield will stop him"
"Heeehahahahahaha, little did you know my gun's plastic! Eat Lead caped crusader!"

At this point in time, batman just steps in close and "BAM!" "POW!" "WHAM!", making us all wonder why he didn't do this in the first place.
Or like how Supergirl physical punches can damage the villian shell, but Superman flying punches, power strong enough to move the fortress is not.

Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:But does he know that power then, or good enough at it? He was supposed to, after he barely managed to traverse tens of thousands of light years in his soul and crawl into a clone body to have studied a lot more about the Dark Side, so this might have been his latest power.
He mastered Life Transfer before Yavin.

The ISB says Palpatine has the following powers: absorb/dissipate energy, accelerate healing, concentrate, control pain, detoxify poison, enhance attribute, hibernation trance, rage, reduce injury, remain conscious, resist stun, short-term memory enhancement, combat sense, danger sense, instinctive astrogation, life detection, life sense, magnify senses, receptive telepathy, sense Force, injure/kill, telekinesis, farseeing, lightsaber combat, projective telepathy, accelerate another’s healing, control another’s pain, feed on dark side, Force lightning, inflict pain, return another to consciousness, transfer Force, affect mind, control mind, doppelganger, drain life essence, enhanced coordination, telekinetic kill, and transfer life.

He has telekinetic kill, so he should be able to eliminate Tarkin. Moreover he can create doppelgangers. He can remain on Byss while sending himself to Coruscant to deal with Tarkin. Even if he's killed, he's still alive, if you will.
Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:If he has the power and could use it well in ROTJ, wouldn't it have been a very effective demonstration of the Dark Side to show Luke his latest Force Storm technique, which proceeds to wipe out the Alliance Fleet. Much more effective than even the superlaser in proving the Dark Side is the superior one, isn't it?
Its more advantageous for them to slowly be killed off the grind Luke down. Moreover, Palpatine was still unkwown by most to be able to use the Force.
Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:Of course, I suppose Palpatine could still choke Tarkin. Unless choking requires either visual contact or at least a vid-link visual contact, which would kind of explain why Admiral Ackbar wasn't simply choked on entry (another demonstration of the power of the Dark Side).

Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:As for Jerec and Tremayne, how good were they in comparison to Vader and the Emperor?
Jerec was supposed to fancy himself as a quasi-Sith (he collected Sith lore and treasures, and applied Sith tattoos to his face). He was supposed to nearly rival Vader in his prime. Master Jerec was probably the most powerful Force user in the galaxy after Vader and Palpatine.

Tremayne is less powerful than Jerec (his Force Grip abilities, for example, are listed as half that of Palpatine's).

Could the DS ram the ships before they get a chance to fire at it much?

True.

Luke is Force-sensitive - he should be able to figure out Palpatine was the guy emitting all that Force to control the Storm. Besides, Palpatine can simply go SLOW with the storm if he's good at it.

Despair will grind Luke down, but the Emperor himself killing all the ships with his godlike power would certainly be more effective in inducing that despair.

If we're going with EU references, then Empire wins because Palpatine was such a control freak that he had Overrides permanently placed in every star destroyer's Main Computer (Dark Force Rising). If we're going movies only then I'd say Empire wins because of Imperial loyalists (ie storm troopers) on board. And even if Tarkin does manage to gain complete control of the Death Star and all its systems. And assuming that Darth Vader died, the emperor is currently too busy to deal with Tarkin, and his "hands" are unable to complete such a mission. The combined power of the Imperial Navy should be enough to stop him. Although I admit that I do not know the exact specs on the Imperial Navy and the Death Star.

As a side note, was the Lusankya on Coruscant yet?

Dark Empire != Dark Empire II.

Dark Empire was gold, but her sequels were crap.

Even DEI had its funny bits, like the pathetic "Activate Dark Force Cage" lines and how Leia broke the Emperor's leg. Sigh ... letting himself be caught like that...

I don't think it's likely that he'd be able to threaten Coruscant without inciting mutiny among the crew. A large percentage of them probably come from Coruscant.

I'm sure that the first step in Tarkin's plan to seize power would involve vaporizing the Emperor's shuttle when he left the death star.
