Now I can understand the prescription drug thing, but as for the morality police bullshit...Beginning Friday, PayPal will begin penalizing users who buy things it doesn't want them to: prescription drugs from unverified pharmacies, material with even a whiff of sex and gambling or lottery services. . . .
Its policy on adult materials is especially stringent, banning not only any material or services suggesting sexual activity but also "non-adult services whose Web site marketing can be reasonably misconstrued as allowing adult material or services to be purchased using PayPal."

i don't see what fucking right paypal has to ban us from buying things that are totally legal. sure, it's their service, but it's also our fucking money we're putting into the thing.

What right do you have to tell Paypal's owners what they can do with there own company? They are offering a service that is in no way vital to anything, they can put whatever restrictions they want on it.Darth_Zod wrote:i don't see what fucking right paypal has to ban us from buying things that are totally legal. sure, it's their service, but it's also our fucking money we're putting into the thing.

Indeed, they can. But if such a decision leads to lack of custom, that's their problem, though knowing the US' current trends, I expect the anti-porn attitude to take a front seat again.Sea Skimmer wrote: What right do you have to tell Paypal's owners what they can do with there own company? Still, I'd be interested to see how they enforce this without scrutinising every transaction.

Bidpay (it's fees are more expensive than Paypal imo), escrow, money order of course and a few more that I can't think of.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."
They have the right, as they provide the service. Likewise, as a consumer, you have the right not to use it. You're not being forced to use it.Darth_Zod wrote:i don't see what fucking right paypal has to ban us from buying things that are totally legal. sure, it's their service, but it's also our fucking money we're putting into the thing.
I suspect this is due to pressure being applied from some quarters. A couple of months back here the Daily Mail ( ) made a big fuss over them. People will continue to use it for porn, just as they've used it for other "forbidden" things in the past.

It also takes a lot longer, and doesn't work very well for international orders.Admiral Valdemar wrote:Use a cheque by post like everyone else. It's more secure, less hassle and non-restrictive.
I'm trying to find something so I can order shit online and pay for it immediately, without getting a credit card.

What about Switch or Solo cards? I don't have a credit card and only pay for online purchases via my Switch debit card (though I hear just owning a credit card helps your credit rating).
Mind you, I recall trying to get something I could only find on the US Amazon site and they didn't take my HSBC Switch card, annoyingly.

If its International, then its unlikely they'll take Solo or Switch. I'm ok, as my bank gives me a VISA Debit card that I use. My credit card sits in a drawer.Admiral Valdemar wrote:What about Switch or Solo cards? Paypal is only used for a few things.
It's a little bit of a Tangent but why would the PATRIOT act ban...
I'm sorry but I don't quite see what the above has to do with Terrorism, I can see why Paypal would stop breaking that section of the act, and why it led to the busisness folding but why was it even in the act?PayPal has good reason to ban gambling activity from its service. A year ago, eBay paid $10 million to settle charges by the U.S. District Attorney that it violated the U.S. Patriot Act by transmitting funds earned through online gambling.
From a review of the two Towers.... 'As for Gimli being comic relief, what if your comic relief had a huge axe and fells dozens of Orcs? That's a pretty cool comic relief. '

A debit/check card that has a credit card company's logo on it will let you pay directly from your checking account. It's still essentially the same as a credit card but at the bank I use it's also my atm card so it's not something extra that I had to get or pay for.
I've never used it as a debit card though. I generally just stick to credit cards for online stuff.

visa and mastercard both offer prepaid credit cards that you can pick up at most any walgreens. works just like a debit card with far more convenience. buy the card in the store, then they send you the piece of plastic in the mail. til then you can use the pin/card numbers to order stuff online.DPDarkPrimus wrote:It also takes a lot longer, and doesn't work very well for international orders.Admiral Valdemar wrote:Use a cheque by post like everyone else. Less hassle? What... How can...Admiral Valdemar wrote:Use a cheque by post like everyone else. It's more secure, less hassle and non-restrictive.
What?
I didn't think people even used cheques anymore, I've never seen a cheque in my life except on old TV movies.
Where I live it's all cards or ATM's, besides with a cheque you have to go go write the info on a paper and then put in the ordinary mail which means going to the post office and also you need stamps, a paypal transaction is a few clicks of a button and it comes with buyer protection.
I've only used paypal three times, buying stuff from ebay(UK), worked without a hitch all the time, and I got some really bloody good deals.
